Baby du Pays, smol du Pays, lil shadow creature stalking the party post cannon for..... reasons???
Sadness headcannons time:
Outside events like the King's curse or wars, sadnesses are more akin to volitile wild animals, they don't hunt people on purpose and are mostly solitary. The more powerful a sadness is the more it tends to repel others from the area.
And then theirs how they're formed, in this Mal's case it's from allllll that wishcraft and emotion that built up over the loops, sadnesses formed from incredible amounts of craft appear to be more humanoid, typically resembling the person that became/manifested them.
A person being overtaken by and becoming a sadness is also a generally rare case outside disasters and wars, I like to think that statistically a lot of fatalities that occur after a disaster of a war are people who got turned into sadness. Like a solid 10-15%.
Some sadnesses are more intelligent, intelligent enough to act on some sort of innate desire. Whether this is hanging around loved one's graves, breaking and entering into your home, stealing particular items, stalking the saviors of Vaugarde, etc.
And lastly they can assimilate objects into themselves, and the only way to get them back is to kill a Sadness, dropped your glasses and a sadness decided to meld them to their leg?? Good luck getting those back.
Mal du Pays bell collars itself. Ding ding!
For everyone in the party its like: "Oh gods the loops were so bad Siffrin manifested a version of himself as a sadness"
My own fucking au has taken over my life, so like here it is I guess. Enjoy.
