i want to excell in my studies this upcoming semester and i am so so ready to put in all the work that is necessary and more
6 Things People Don't Always Tell You About Studying
1. you ace tests by overlearning. you should know your notes/flashcards/definitions basically by heart. if someone asks you about a topic when youāre away from class or your notes and you can answer them in a thorough and and accurate answer, then youāre good, you know the material.Ā
2. if you donāt understand something, it will end up on the test. so just donāt disregard and hope that this specific topic wonāt be on the test. give it more attention, help, and practice. find a packet of problems on that one concept and donāt stop until you finish it and know it the best.Ā
3. sometimes you just need that Parental Push. you know in elementary school, they would tell you āok now itās time for you to do your homework! you have a project coming up, start looking for a topic now!ā ONE of your teachers might be like this. be thankful for it and follow their advice! these teachers are the best at always keeping you on track with their calendar. if not a teacher, then have one of your friends be that person that can keep you accountable for the things you promised you would do.Ā
4. you just need to kick your own ass. seriously. i know it sucks and its hard to study for two things at once. BUT. I DONT CARE IF ITāS HARD. you need to do it and at least do it to get it over with because you canāt keep putting things off. If you do, you will eventually run out of time and you will hate yourself. force yourself to do it. i made myself sign up for june ACT even though thereās finals because if i didnāt, i probably never would. like do i think iām gonna be ready in one month? probably not, SO I BETTER GET ON IT AND START STUDYING!Ā
5. do homework even if it doesnāt count. if you actually try on it, then you will actually do so much better on the tests, itās like magic.Ā
6. literally just get so angry about procrastinating that you make yourself start that assignment. I know how hard it is to kick the procrastination habit. I have to procrastinate. So I make myself start by thinking about my deadlines way early. I think, āoh i have a presentation in three weeks (but it really takes 2 weeks to do), iāll be good and start today.ā when that doesnāt happen, you say youāll do it tomorrow, and this happens for like the next four days. I get so mad at myself for not starting when i am given a new chance to do so with every passing day. By that time, you actually have exactly how much time you need for it AND you were able to procrastinate the same way you usually do ;)

some chemistry notes I took in preparation for the chemistry subject test over the summer
BTW I need some help in deciding how I wanna take this account, so I created a little survey and it would mean a lot to me if you took a few minutes to complete it :) link is here

ā Seize time opportunities. If I have 15 minutes until your next class, I sit down and do homework in the hallway. If I have a long commute, Iāll do flashcards. This works because you most likely wonāt have anything else to do anyways, so itās easier to get your work done.
ā Start something. When I get a lab report assignment, the first thing I do is pull up the directions and at least start the cover page and pull up some research links. It takes 5 minutes but it gets the ball rolling and makes it more likely that youāll finish what you started.
ā Auto-mode. When I procrastinating, itās usually because Iām too busy thinking about what Iām going to do. Instead, I like to pretend Iām in āauto-modeā and just get started as fast as I can. auto-mode means shutting out distracting thoughts or pleas to watch one more funny cat video and forcing your hands to open your textbook. Works every time.
ā Personally, creating time schedules donāt work for me because if I fall out of time, the whole schedule falls apart and I usually give up. Instead I use time games. Iāll tell myself something like āwork as hard as you can until 11:00 sharp and if you finish, you can have a breakā. This is great for developing self discipline because itās in the moment so you can be more realistic and flexible.
ā I donāt like writing down earlier due dates in my planner because itās confusing so instead, itās good to have some sort of mental rule. for example, my mental rule is to finish everything at least two days before the due date. following through with that will keep you on track.
ā Do a little bit every day. If you have a big project, chip at it within a week rather than stressing out 2 days before itās due. the same goes for studying for an exam. if you review lecture notes and attend office hours after class + work on flashcards throughout the week, then do a final review at the end, youāll be well prepared and wonāt need to cram. Itās a good habit and you wonāt get stressed. Two birds with one stone.
ā Use mornings too. Iām not really an early bird, but using mornings to get some work / chores done is great because it gives you a productive start to the day, which makes you feel proud of yourself for knocking out half of your tasks in the a.m.Ā
a. Lay out your lecture notes / worksheets on the table the night before and open your work tabs on your computer so theyāll be the first thing you see when you turn on your computer.
b. Put your computer far away from your work space and go to sleep.
c. When you wake up, the first thing that youāll see is your āpaperā work, so get it done first. then start on your āscreenā work (youāll be less likely to get distracted if you do your āpaperā work first).Ā when you open your laptop the first thing youāll see are the work tabs you opened the night before. Your job is to go on auto-mode and get started.
Good luck with self-discipline. Youāll do great. -thoughtscholar
hi~ hereās a post of my notes on beverage science and technology :D itās not the best but the sunlight really hit a nice spot so i decided to take a shot and here it is after a couple of filters HAHAH š¤£i donāt often posts on my studyblr nowadays because i lost the motivation and energy to really just open my account and see my timeline /:
previously, i think i might have mentioned that i was going through my o-levels and now!! iām done with it!!!
currently, Iām attending a polytechnic to get my diploma in food science and technology :3 this is something that i was really looking forward to because food science and technology was my first choice and i managed to get in!! š¬šš
iām really enjoying myself so far in this whole new experience (of course iāve also felt disappointment with my first few examinations because i did really š«š¤®) with new friends and the new school environment (:
I hope everyone who spent their time to read my post (which is amazing wow thank you) is fine and well.
How to take effective lecture notes.
Go to the lectures, please! Okay so I know this is probably one you were all expecting, but you canāt rely on lecture slides to get you through all of your classes. Listening to the information and added info from the lecturer helps you to understand the topic on a much deeper level than simply just reading and re-writing it.Ā
Focus. I donāt know how many times Iāve been in a lecture and my brainās started drifting towards my phone or sometimes even to dreamland. Get enough sleep. Put your phone and any other technology away and just listen. This is the purpose of going to the lecture! The professor is most likely going to highlight the main points of the topic and the topics you should focus on for upcoming exams.Ā
Write what you hear, not what you see. If your lecturer uploads the lecture slides online, try to write only a rough outline of the content and your lecturers comments on certain topics. Later you can add the content which is on the slides either by using post-its or by rewriting out the notes.
Use bullet points instead of paragraphs. Bullet points help you to write shorter, more precise sentences which contain only the information you need. I find that when I use paragraphs, I tend to write all of the information instead of focusing on the lecture and finding the information I need instead.Ā
Donāt highlight in class, leave it until afterward. If youāre like me and like pretty highlighters, do not give in to the urges. Leave it until after the lecture, then go back, re-read your notes and highlight/underline anything you feel is necessary. This way you wonāt be highlighting unnecessary information and it wonāt look like a unicorn just threw up all over your notes, maybe.
So these are all the methods I use to take effective, useful lecture notes. This isnāt about making your notes pretty, because I find that trying to make notes pretty in a lecture only works to my disadvantage. I miss out on information and Iām not as productive as I could be. I hope this helped you out! Good luck to everyone heading back to school!
warmth, baby, warmth.Ā

Do you have any advice for self-studying? I saw that Virilitasa answered a question about that and I was curious about what advice you'd give! Thank you :)
For those curious, @virilitasa ās post can be found here. She covered a lot of what I would have said and I also wrote a similar post on the specifics of āhowā recently. I wonāt cover those points.
Many people find self-studying difficult to stick with because they lack outside structure. So you need to create that structure yourself. Depending on how you generally get work done, you might take one or more of these general approaches:
Schedule a specific time each day to study
e.g., 6am before classes, after dinner, etc.
Break down the content into exactly how youāll study ahead of time
e.g., readĀ chapters X-Y, make Quizlet set, do practice problems, etc.
Create specific, small goals for yourself
e.g., finish one chapter a week, learn 5 new words a day
Set slightly random reminders on your calendar
Regular phone reminders are easy to ignore! Maybe pick 3 random days toĀ check if youāre sticking to your plan or set a time to review each week.
Decide on an amount of time to study each day
e.g., 2 hours at any time instead of always 8am-10am
Test yourself at regular intervals
Reading and taking notes alone is NOT enough to effectively learn
See the other posts I mentioned for more specifics.
Hope that helps!
BONUS TIP: If youāre learning something for yourself, you donāt need to study everything thatās in the book.
If a chapter or section is irrelevant to what youāre trying to learn, skip it. This goes for languages, especially. You can always go back to those skipped sections if you need them. But maintaining discipline and motivation is key to self-study, so keep the content relevant is major.
it took me a while to find how i was going to phrase this masterpost. truth is, we all started in the studyblr community at some point and weāve all known the struggle to get reblogs or to even find friends. unfortunately, this shouldnāt be the issue, the purpose of this, is to improve your grade, show your work, give tips and make friends with people all around the world sharing your passion. i guess this masterpost applies to new studyblrs or just studyblrs that sometimes struggle to find a spot in this huge community.
ā followers donāt matter, friends do.
at the beginning, it might seem impossible to find followers, even more friends. i can talk for myself because i know that i used to get so upset when iād see people unfollowing me. i didnāt know how to fit in even if i tried my hardest. if youāve ever been in this case, what iād recommend, is to sendĀ āaskā to your favourite accounts, even in anons. send them ask or even message them if youāre not too shy. it would at least give you someone to talk to and you could ask questions on how to improve your studyblr, and maybe even make friends. one thing that also works is tags if you struggle to get reblogs. for example, mine is #heyaly but basically every studyblrĀ has one and thatās one way to show your posts to the world. once youāve done that, iām pretty sure you would at least have found a friend. and thatās what matter in this community. followers are just a number, what you need is supportive friends!! (and my door is always open if you want one)
ā itās okay if you canāt afford stationery.Ā
this is so important, to everyone out here, cute stationery is cool but thatās not everything, it doesnāt define who you are. to be a studyblr, you have to share your passion, it should never be a race to see who can get the brand new notebooks or liners. youāre beautiful and perfect with just a pencil and a sheet of paper as long as it brings you happiness.
ā you donāt have to work all the time.
big clichĆ©. as if, we studyblrs, were working all day, all night. it might seem to be the truth because weāre all from different part of the world. but learn to treat yourself. watch a programme, relax, go outside, do something else that you enjoy. you donāt live to work!
ā give tips you follow.
writing this sounds stupid but i know for a fact that you always want to give the best to impress people. but masterposts are important because you make it out of your own experience. what the internet says does not matter, what we want is to know how you do things. thatās what make a masterpostĀ so special. itās okay not to drink ten gallons of water per day (please donāt do that) or to sleep twelve hours per night, weāre all different and thatās what makes us perfect in our own ways.
basically,Ā
JUST BE YOURSELF AND THE WORLD WILL BE A BETTER PLACE āæ

Iāve pulled three almost-all-nighters in this past week and I am living my best life
Iāve been so busy with working (I picked up my paycheck today and omg ok all-nighters were worth) and studying for midterms and writing a bunch of apps
Also I had a fantastic hospital shift today and itās becoming very bittersweet because I will be saying goodbye to the Geriatrics clinic and my volunteer bud very soon :(
