One thing I've noticed in a lot of Pyramid Head x OC stories are, 1) The OC never did anything to actually wind up in the otherworld, they're super pure. 2) They will have a tragic back story that would make Alessa go "That's rough". 3) Speaking of Alessa, she'll usually be somewhere in the story, usually as the 'god' of Silent Hill. I've seen nearly all of these in every PHxOC story, why are people are so uncreative?
Aside from being a good character in general I usually look for ones that have interesting reason for being there and that don't clash with canon or the survival horror genre. ~Ray
Just here to tell you that I think your blog is lovely! <3 I enjoy reading lots of reviews and shit but usually can't find blogs geared towards the things I like, you're doing a great job. c:
Alright! About time I review some monsters. Since monsters barely ever have profiles in this fandom, I'll simply be judging based on 3 categories, design, symbolism, and practicality. Let us proceed.
This is my finished infected mutant. Its gunna be my Silent hill OC... and why I called him the Hybrid is because he has bird feathers around the head and tail, a tougne the shape of a squid tentical (Not in the picture) he has a plant-like mouth and a wolves body.
Design:
This is the exact definition of too much. If I ever actually saw that in a game (any game) I wouldn't be afraid, I'd be laughing! There's too many bright colors, too many features, too many animals squished into one. It's like someone took the double-head from SH3 and glued a bunch of Halloween props to it.
Symbolism: What is there to say about this? There is no symbolism. We don't know what person they apply to and even if we did, what person would have this as the manifestation of their personal demons? Unless they killed a bunch of animals while inside of a bell-and-whistle factory.
Practicality: While it is stupid-looking, there isn't anything about it that would make it hard to implement in a game, at least with modern-day graphics. Mostly because it is just a double-head covered in shit.
This is a terrible monster. It does not belong anywhere near Masahiro Ito's lovely designs. Even the people who did the later games would be insulted. I have no idea what the creator was thinking. I am done. Goodbye. ~Ray
Keep it simple. Come up with one thing for the theme and then build around that. Try and have them at least resemble something people are familiar with, like animals or other people. Don't make it so simple that they're just people with scary faces, but don't pile on lots of complex parts. Keep the colors subdued too (no bright greens or blues) and try to have them make sense as video game enemies. Don't have them do something that wouldn't be reasonable with in a game.
There are a few more tips in the guide I made way back at the start of the blog, if you need it. Hope that helped. ~Ray
Lately, I've been thinking about writing a OC's trip to Silent Hill because She discovered She is related distantly to Benjamin Munroe, a character mentioned in the Silent Hill comic Past life. I'm having my OC to be a student at Pleasant River University during Walter Sullivan time as student. My question is how should I write a young Walter Sullivan ? . I want him to be in character for this fanfic
From what I can gather, Walter's a bit of an introvert. He was a friendly person (mostly) and doesn't seem to hold grudges from the way he talks to Henry He dislikes insects and large dogs and is vaguely misogynistic. He also has a strong desire to see his mother. If he was willing to murder 21 people (one of which was himself) just to maybe see his mother, he was pretty desperate. He was probably already planning the ten hearts murders while at school, so keep that in mind.
Another note, Past Life and the other SH comics were not written by the original creators and so often don't coincide with the games' intentions. Use them if you want but they are pretty much just published fanfiction. ~Ray
Could you review my friend's OC? I don't know enough about Silent Hill to help her.
I have been provided with a new sacrifice! Thank you, mortal. I shall do as you wish.
I'll start with her design. There isn't much I can tell because it's an anime base. But I can tell she isn't wearing a coat and that's almost always a turn off to me. Maine is cold as hell. If you go to Silent Hill, it is smart to take a coat and she doesn't seem to have any logical excuse.
"Wh-What the heck is that thing?!"
Ah, before I give her info, I must inform you that Elsie is in no way, shape, or form related to any previous Silent Hill characters/plots. Her story is entirely her own. Also, I'm new to the Silent Hill fandom so forgive me if I mess up. For reference, this is set during 2012.
Good. Characters that try to shoehorn themselves into the other games annoy me. Though, if she has absolutely nothing to do with previous games at all, then that might be a problem. It's best to at least make little references to the cult and everything, like SH2 did.
Name: Elsie Tate
Age: 28
Personality: She is normally a mellow, go with the flow, kind of person. She is a huge pushover, and finds herself unable to voice her complaints out of fear of embarrassing herself, or being a burden. However, when she is scared or stressed she gets this empty feeling in her stomach and shakes uncontrollably. This is the only time where she will talk, a lot. If no one's around to talk she will talk to herself as if she is another person.
OK, that personality was about 90% flaws. That's no good. She needs to have more positive traits.
Likes: romance novels, yellow tulips, red velvet cupcakes, murder mystery games, and her pet rats
Dislikes: rap music, salad, dogs, things not being put away in a certain way, and cherries/cherry flavoring.
Eh. I'm kinda neutral on this. On one hand it isn't bad or cliche. But on the other, it doesn't really tell me to much about her.
Fears: Large bodies of water (the most she can deal with is those blue above ground swimming pools, but even they make her uncomfortable. She can't handle showering either, and takes baths instead), birds, darkness when she is in an unfamiliar place (i.e. everywhere but her home), and heights.
Ticks/Weaknesses: When nervous she will twist the ring on her right hand, and twist a lock of hair behind her right ear. She never did any sports in high school, or any karate/boxing classes, and has only ever learned basic self defense from her father.
Not doing any karate or boxing doesn't really qualify as a weakness. It's just something she's never done.
Her morals hold her back from wanting to hurt the monsters, even though she knows if she doesn't attack them, she will die.
OK then she must have really weird morals. Throughout the series it's shown time and time again that the monsters are just shambling abominations with no mind of their own. They aren't people or even animals, really. They just exist to kill anything that moves. I can understand if she was hesitant the first time or two because she had no idea if they were people or not. But after a bit it should be clear that they have no resemblance of feelings or even self-preservation.
She has Eczema and Hypothyroid, which are more inconveniences than weaknesses, causing her to be sluggish and itchy at times.
OK now we're dipping into some personal shit here. I really don't know much about Hypothyroid or what ever, but I know plenty about Eczema. I have Eczema and it isn't just being itchy sometimes. My skin is extremely sensitive. There is barely a day that passes where I don't have some sort of rash. There are very few products I can use that won't have a reaction with my skin. It's pretty awful to have a rash on your face because you accidentally used the wrong soap. This wouldn't really matter in the grand scheme of things but if you can't even research this then I'm not going to trust you to research other things.
Relatives (relevant to the plot): Connie Tate (Father;Alive) Debra Tate (Mother;Unknown) Paul Carmack (Grandfather;Deceased) Alma Carmack (Grandmother;Deceased) Tyler Tate (Brother;Alive)
Bio: Elsie lived in a small farming town in southern Maine. She lived with her mother, father, and older brother, Tyler. Elsie would spend the summer with her grandparents. On Halloween of 1992, her mother disappeared, and her family started to disintegrate.
OK this is something you need to say more on than just that she disappeared. I don't know what you would want to say but there has to be more.
Tyler became rash and had anger issues, and if not approached right, he would lash out at her, and her father became distant, and would look at her sadly at times. Alma soon died a few years later from a heart attack. Her father still made her go to her grandparent during the summer, and not soon after Alma died, Paul starting sexually abusing her during the visits.
No, just, no. That's going too far. It's a really touchy subject and requires time and research to properly represent and all it's getting is a passing mention. This isn't something that should just be thrown in there.
Once turning eighteen, she quickly moved in with a friend in a nearby apartment in town so she could still visit her dad, who was quickly falling into a deep depression. She eventually admitted him into a psychiatric hospital, and after his release, she would take him to the therapists and pick up his medication.
OK, we're falling into angst-overdose here. To many things are happening to her. While she herself hasn't really done much.
Think about SH2 again. James, Angela, and Eddie had all done something awful. They had each killed people. She's just had awful things happen to her. She hasn't committed murder, arson, or even theft.
Reason for going to Silent Hill: To find her mother after receiving news from her dead grandmother that she was there. She wants to know what happened on Halloween of 1992, and why she can't remember it, or why no one will tell her about it. (For more information, see Ch. 1, which will be released soon)
Dead relative telling her to go to Silent Hill? Once there is looking for a dead relative? Amnesia? This is getting a little bit too close to SH2 for my liking.
More info will be revealed as her story progresses.
OK you are also breaking my rule of "never post a profile until it is complete"
Overall, this character has some major problems. She's 99% flaws and weaknesses with no strengths and is suffering from severe angst-overdose with a bit of SH2 rip off mixed in. This is what we in the business would call an anti-sue. The result of an author being so terrified of making a sue, that they just pile on flaw after flaw and don't really try to do anything new. I suppose she could be salvaged with much hard work, but I suggest scraping her.
Now, that is that. You have seen to much and must be silenced. ~Ray
Okay so my biggest pet peeve ever is OCs with bright red eyes. From just general knowledge, that never happens (idk if there's some uber rare disease or something) not even with albinos, their eyes are usually pink. The only case where any living creatures had red eyes are albio animals and sometime some species of animals
It bugs me too. I mean, if they aren't supposed to be human, then I overlook it. Otherwise, It's awful. ~Ray
Hmmm. Well, they honestly have to be average people for things to work. My biggest problem with Homecoming and Downpour (besides not really being scary) is that they had you play as a solider and a criminal (yeah I know Alex wasn't actually a soldier, but the point still stands). That makes it harder to identify with the character and if you can't put yourself in their shoes, you won' be scared. Here watch this video it should help. You could also check the guide I wrote a while ago for tips. ~Ray
Hey there! Do any of you out there in Tumblr land have any terrible Silent Hill monster designs you want me to see. I think it's about time I do a few of those. Monsters don't need full profiles. Just a pic and any info that can be found.
Ahh, yes kawaii anime girls totally belong in Silent Hill!
Name: Kei Salter
Kei is a Japanese name and Salter is English. What are you hopping to accomplish?
Age: 17
Hair: Dark Brown (originally a light shade of Brown)
Wait a second! 17? Dyed hair? Are you trying to rip off Heather? (Just kidding....kinda)
Eyes: Left: Ocean Blue Right: Blood Red
Silent Hill is a series grounded in realism! Everyone has naturally colored hair and eyes! Do not bring unnatural heterochromia into the mix. Also, why not just call her eyes blue and red. Prose is not necessary.
Family: Mother (deceased) younger sister (deceased) Father (unknown possibly deceased)
Personality: She's relatively quiet but can talk your ear off if she's in a good mood. Is cautious and always on alert. Rarely trusts people but that doesnt stop her from at least
assisting or talking to any she meets. She is also highly intelligent
Almost every trait listed is contradicted about a word latter and there isn't a single flaw.
Likes: Sweets, killing monsters, reading, and napping
Monster-killing is not suppose to be enjoyed. It is purely for survival. That's why they call it survival horror! If she likes repeatedly hitting a shambling monstrosity with a bit of wood so that it won't eat your face, then you've made an action character.
Dislikes: Injuries, getting too close, being chased, Sour things, and being looked down on or treated as a child.
Half of those things are things pretty much everyone hates, sooo...
Past: When she was 15 violently murdered her mother with a pocket knife slashing her eyes and blinding her halfway through the attack.
Jumping right into the action, are we? I'll applaud you for not faffing about, but I could use some fucking context! Why is she killing her mom in such a way? What did her mom do?
Afterwards she dumped gasoline leading a line from the room where her mother was still barely breathing outside and lit it sending her house up in flames.
Because it's not enough to commit murder, gotta commit arson to!
Unaware her younger sister was inside at the time she panicked after seeing her screaming in a window and when she ran up and tried to reopen the shut door, severly burning her hand on the red hot doorknob she only helped further the fire by managing to rip it open sending air in and causing the fire to explode sending her flying backwards.
OK, the creator has obviously been watching to many action movies. That isn't how fire or explosions works.
After the initial shock wore off she ran, fleeing in fear from the police. She cut and dyed her hair.
So cutting and dyeing her hair a few shades darker keeps the police from recognizing her? Even when she's got a fucking bright red eye?
2 years later she finds herself unconsciously being dragged to Silent Hill, the guilt from murdering her sister still heavy on her heart She finds herself wandering around in the hell ridden town.
So she feels guilt for killing her sissy but not her mommy? And why would she even stay there? What is keeping her from climbing over a fence and high-tailing it all the way to Brahms? This is a serious flaw in your logic!
Alright, that's all there is to be seen. Goodnight, followers, goodnight. ~Ray
Well, now that Christmas is over and 2014 has begun, I believe it's time to bring back this blog with a bang. Prepare yourselves, this is a long one.

BACKSTORY
Describe their childhood (newborn - age 10): her father was abusive to herself, mother and sister, she grew up without all that much, was quiet, shy, and rather meek.
So now you're bullshiting abuse too? First drugs, then mental disorders, now this. Great.
Describe their teenage years (11 - 19): ran away at 16 with her sister, did alot of jobs and eventually became a get-away driver for the mafia. at 17 her sister was kidnapped, and killed. she got a phone call from her sister at 18, so she went to Silent Hill to try to find her
???????????? I am confused. What happened to her parents? What mafia would let a 17 year-old be their get-away driver? Who kidnapped and killed her sister and for what reason? When did she go to collage? So confused.
Also, a phone call from a dead sister sounds a lot like a letter from a dead wife, hmm?
Describe their adult years (20+): unknown
So don't put it down.
This is a horrible character. It barely has anything to do with Silent Hill and is obviously just there to be edgy and cool. These are probably the worst kinds of characters. Ray out
Question. I want to make my own Silent Hill story and i wanted to add a child that while they may appear to have some psychic abilities. Their actually just another monster. And the Psychic abilities would only stretch so far (I,E possibly making the main character hallucinate that it is a child.) and then of course able to lift certain objects. And that be about as far as the powers would go. Is that okay? Should i do something different?
Honestly, the psychic powers aren't needed to make the monster look like a child. There are similar characters in canon like Lisa and Maria. Sure, neither of them realize it at first. But both of them are manifestations of the town that are eventually revealed to just be monsters taking on the human form of someone important in the life of the person manifesting the nightmare. Beyond that, I think it would be fine to give her minor telekinesis. ~Ray
Hello there! All 9 off you. First sues of the blog.
I will have none of this kawaii in my survival horror! These girls look about 10-15. I don't think they could withstand the horrors of the otherworld. I mean, I realize this is a base, but you could have found one that makes them look older.
Here are my Silent Hill OCs I have created as a result of my fangirlism. xD
I can tell you right now that creating OCs out of fangirlism is not good. You tend to let your obsession with the series cloud your judgment.
To the left is Lenore, love interest to Harry Mason in the first Silent Hill. In the middle is Katrina, love interest to Alex Shepherd in Homecoming. And last, but not least: Sarah, the love interest to Murphy Pendleton in the upcoming game, Silent Hill: Downpour.
No. Seriously what the fuck. You have no other information besides who you're pairing them up with. Did you forget that Harry is dead by canon (also old), Alex could be dead depending on ending, and that Murphy might not only be dead in multiple endings but might not even gone through Silent Hill if you get one of the weirder endings. I'll cut you some slack with Murphy, though, because it sounds like you made this before Downpour came out. But you couldn't have waited?
I'd also like to mention that both Murphy and Harry were married and each had a kid. Alex might not have been married, but he still has a love interest already. Not to mention all these characters are 20-30 years old at the time of their games. These girls are way to young.
That's all, folks. That is all the info we have on these bitches. I'm out.~ Ray
