This route suffers from the same issues as the Box of Blessings Route. Plot holes, inconsistencies, translation mistakes and reuse of cutscenes causing continuity errors.
Here are the most important questions I have so far (I'll edit this post if I find others) :
The box found in the schoolyard
We have 3 people infected by G'ie queens: Kako, Nozomi and Takemaru. From what we know, they were all infected outside of the school (Kako on day 22, Nozomi on day 26 and Takemaru on day 80). That leaves the mystery of the box Takumi found half-buried in the schoolyard on day 22. How did it end up there?
The secret passage under the cage
On day 23, they found out about a secret tunnel underneath one of the cages in the courtyard. However, this was never brought up again and we have no idea where it leads to.
Who helped Eito escape?
Someone helped Eito escape and it's never revealed who it was. I don't think it was Nozomi-G because as a Gi'e queen, her instinct would be to kill Eito, not let him get away. And how would she know about the lab and the Time Leap Machine?
2 different legends surrounding the Boxes of Calamity
On day 39, Shion tells us that the boxes of calamity were used to seal vengeful ghosts called "wraiths". But then on day 89, He tells us that the boxes of calamity were used to seal the G'ie queens. Based on this route's story, the second legend seems to be the correct one so what was the point of suggesting another one?
A third box?
In one of the timeline's branches, Eva (as her avatar or "ghost") revealed she was the one who got rid of the boxes found in the schoolyard and in the town's ruins. If that's the case, what about the box that Takumi found next to Moko's body on day 49? Who brought it inside the school?
The ghost girl
The ghost girl is a very confusing plot point. Sometimes it's Eva, sometimes it's the avatar that Takumi subconciously created, and other times it's neither?
Flame Boy's name
For anyone wondering about that line, it's a mistake done in translation/localization. I checked the japanese text and his name is not mentionned at all.
What happened there?
Nozomi-G was behind almost every death in this route. Except for what happened in Endings 37 and 38. Takumi found her with Hiruko and Takemaru in the forest. They all have the same injury, implying it was only one culprit. Who was it? Maybe Takumi? He was going crazy by the end.
This timeline is a mess of plot holes, inconsistencies, and translation errors. There’re far too many to list them all here. It also doesn't help that all 4 branches are so similar that they even reuse the same cutscenes on certain days and it makes everything more confusing because some of the dialogue don't fit all of the branches.
Here are the most relevant questions I have so far (I'll edit this post if I find others) :
Kako’s strange behavior
Kako has a big role in this route. She has a strong obsession with the boxes and she can feel its presence when there’s one nearby. It seems to be a different ability than her clairvoyance. Why does she have that ability and why is she so fixated on finding the boxes?
Sirei is surprisingly supportive
On any other occasion and in other routes, he’s always so opposed to letting anyone outside of the school. But when it comes to looking for the boxes, he doesn't voice any complaints. Maybe he already knows about the boxes and their power?
Nozomi doesn't have any rejection symptoms
This is usually an important plot point in other routes, but in this one, she doesn't experience any rejection symptoms. That brings up the question of what is causing her symptoms to appear and why she doesn't have any here (or could be just another plot hole).
V’ehxness can use undying flames
When the SDU fights V’ehxness on Day 99, she attacks them with undying flames that she can create herself. How did she gain that power?
Endings don't get a proper conclusion
All 8 endings of this route stop on Day 99, leaving some aspects of the story unresolved. We don't know what happens on Day 100. Do they stop the missiles? Do they get in the escape pod? What about Eito? And the war?
I just finished playing the Conspiracy Route. There's a lot to unpack here! This is one of the most confusing routes in the game and we're left with more questions than answers. I'm gonna focus on some of the most important points:
We're introduced to Gotoh, an AI created by the anti-exodus faction and hidden inside of Nigou to infiltrate the Special Defense Unit. This confirms what we were told in the 2nd Scenario Route: that some people on the Sattelite are against the Exodus Project and took action to sabotage it (knowing that, it's also possible that they are responsible for Eito's cognitive disorder in an other attempt to make the mission fail).
Gotoh claims that their objective is to convince the SDU members to stop fighting and bring them to the Sattelite by using the escape pod at Second-to-last Defense Academy. That's where it starts to get complicated. It's very unlikely that the ones responsable for the Exodus Project would build an escape pod at the other school. We were told multiple times that the 2nd campus is nothing more than a decoy and they were given the bus so they could join the other team at Last Defense Academy and get in the escape pod there.
Gotoh told Takumi that the escape pod was put there in secret by the anti-exodus faction. How could they do that without being noticed? I can believe an AI being hidden away because it's digital data, it doesn't have a physical form, but something as large as the escape pod would be impossible to sneak inside the school without anyone noticing. The most reasonable explaination is that Gotoh is lying about the escape pod in order to persuade the SDU members to leave the school.
The anti-exodus faction is aware of the memory manipulation device Sirei is using on the SDU members and have made those pills to counter the effect of the brainwashing.
Gotoh gave Takumi envelopes, one for each SDU members. They were supposed to contain information about the brainwashing and their "true" background, but later Gotoh revealed that everything in those envelopes was fabricated using intel they gathered on them. This seems to imply that the anti-exodus faction doesn't know everything about the SDU and their true origin. That or maybe they decided to keep quiet about it.
The Conspiracy Route has 8 endings. While most of them seem like just basic bad endings when you make a wrong decision, the last 2 are the most interesting. In Ending 22, Takumi persuades everyone to abandon the mission and they leave for the other school. We don't see what happens when they get there, but that ending being called "Lambs to the slaughter" implies that it's nothing good. And in Ending 21, Takumi fails to convince them and instead Nozomi persuades him to stay and keep fighting. Gotoh, who was secretly watching, decides to eliminate the SDU.
Also, that line: "I didn't want to be the one doing the killing, but..." One way to interpret it is that the true objective of the anti-exodus faction is to kill the SDU. Sending them to the other school was probably a trap set by Gotoh.
I finished the Rebellion, Eva, Multiple Eito and Serial Battles routes. Those timelines don't have a lot of mysteries left. We do found out some informations regarding the futurans, the commanders and the existence of the rebel army led by Kamyuhn.
However, I just noticed a few things that may or may not be important:
Humans and Futurans might be related
As kamyuhn and the members of the SDU exchange stories from their respective planet, they notice similarities between the two which make them question if they could be related (in Eito's words: "share a common ancestor").
Sirei's announcements suddenly stopped
In the Rebellion Route, from Day 94 on, Sirei's announcements don't play anymore (Takumi takes notice on Day 96). This is the only route where this happens. Who turned them off? It could be relevant to know who it was. Was it someone inside the school or was it someone from the sattelite?
The "extra" commanders in the Serial Battles Route
The SDU doesn't fight all 13 commanders in every route. There are a few routes where some commanders never appear (for example, in the Slasher Route, 2 commanders never show up: Quenzelle and Parmith). Maybe the missing commanders are the ones who were brought to the Serial Battles Route by V'ehxness?
I started to replay Hundred line from the begining (don't ask me why). I've completed two routes and I noticed a few plot points that were left unanswered (or maybe I just don't remember, there's so much to keep track of!). If anyone has any clues or caught something that I missed, I'll be happy to read it. Here's what I got so far:
From the original timeline / 2nd scenario timeline
Takumi's dreams
Takumi keeps having dreams about Karua, and eveytime he has one, something happened that's very similar to what happened in the dream, like it was a premonition. What are those dreams and why does he only have them in these 2 timelines?
Kako's clairvoyance
We never got an explaination to how she got that ability. The obvious answer would be that it comes from her hemoanima. But is it really the case?
"Ending 0"
What happened on the sattelite? Did they learn the truth or was it something else?
Eito's cognitive disorder
We still don't know what caused his disorder. Best we got is when Sirei briefly theorized that it could've have been a glitch when the fake memories were implanted in his brain or it was done intentionally by an anti-exodus faction to sabotage the mission.
Shion's origin
The commanders call him "the second coming". What does it mean? And who was the first? And is Shion related to that person? (An interresting fact maybe worth mentioning, Dahl'xia recognised him when he materialized his avatar on the battlefield on day 87.)
Eito cured in Ending 2
In that ending, he gets his eyes back and he's seemingly cured from his cognitive disorder. How? Sirei had already updated the revive-o-matic to prevent him from getting his eyes back when he's revived. And if it was that easy to cure his disorder, why didn't Sirei do it at the begining?
As his consciousness was slowly slipping away from him, he heard something faintly in the distance.
???: —eon! Leon!
At the sound of his name, he forced his mind to focus.
Ophelia: Leon! Stop!
Ophelia was calling out to him. He could barely make sense as to why.
Ophelia: Come on! Let go!
She yelled in desperation. He then felt an odd sensation, like he was being pulled forward.
Ophelia: Snap out of it! You’re choking yourself!
Leon: ….!?
He tried to muster all his strength to move but his body wouldn't budge.
Ophelia: Sorry, I’m gonna have to get rough…..
A violent piercing pain finally jolted him awake. His eyes flew wide open and he rolled over, coughing and catching his breath.
Ophelia: Finally….
After coming back to his senses, he inspected his body for the source of that pain and saw blood dripping down his arm.
Ophelia: I’m sorry, I had no choice. You wouldn't let go.
Leon: It’s fine... *cough cough*.. Glad you found me.
He forced himself to speak, ignoring the stinging pain in his throat.
Ophelia: Are you alright?
Ophelia gently rubbed his back in a soothing manner.
Leon: … Yeah….
???: Aaaahhhh!!!
They quickly stood up and ran towards the source of that scream.
Eric: Get away from me!
Eric was crawled up in a ball against the wall with his eyes closed and covering his ears with his hands.
Ophelia: Eric?
Eric: You’re not here… You’re not here….You’re not here.
He kept repeating like a chant, like he was trying to chase away a ghost.
Ophelia: He’s not listening.
She turned her attention back to Leon.
Ophelia: Anyway, what happened to you?
Leon: I think…. I was caught in some kind of illusion.
Ophelia: Did you hear a whistle?
Leon: Yeah. What was that?
Ophelia: It’s something akin to auditory hallucinations. You just met one of the most dangerous vampires in this hellpit. He was chasing us before you showed up.
???: Ehehehehe…..
The voice let out a low menacing chuckle.
???: How about you join our little game?
Leon: And how about you show yourself. Don’t be shy, now.
Leon knew he was somewhere close by. The unsettling feeling of being watched left no room for doubt.
???: And why would I do that? I can just have you take each other out without moving an inch.
Leon: Ophelia, Get down!
After she ducked down, he took out his gun and shot in all directions, hoping to pinpoint his location.
???: Hahahahahaha!!! That won’t work.
Leon heard that strange whistle again and more disturbing memories from his past were playing in his mind like some twisted slideshow.
Leon: Enough with your dirty tricks!
???: Why? Because you’re afraid of confronting your sins?
The voice taunted him. There was an undeniable cruelty in his voice.
???: But really, you have no shame. Playing the victim while you get to live your life when so many people died.
Leon: You're making me sick.
He mumbled under his breath, anger gradually boiling up.
???: And you, girl. Why are you resisting? You won’t save anyone. Why are you still fighting?
The faces of all the friends she lost flashed through her mind.
“Why?”.....“Why did I have to die”......“Why didn’t you save me”.....“Aaaahhh!!!”
Ophelia: ……
Ophelia stayed quiet, refusing to let him get the better of her.
???: Hm? Not enough to break you, huh? Let’s try this, then.
Multiple figures came out of the shadows and rushed to attack. Leon and Ophelia fought them back when suddenly— *clank*
They found themselves facing each other, having blocked the other’s blow, with no sign of their assailants anywhere.
Leon: Just another trick.
Ophelia: He's really gonna have us kill each other.
Leon: We have to drag him out of his hiding spot.
After a few seconds, Ophelia spoke.
Ophelia: I have an idea. I might end up dead if we screw it up…. But I trust you.
Her eyes met his, silently asking for his approval. Leon raised an eyebrow in confusion, something about her was different. Feeling hesitant at first, he responded with a slight nod.
???: Oh, teamwork? Like that would do you any good.
Leon: And what monsters like you know about that?
???:....……
His words were met by a disturbing silence. He felt as if the temperature in the air lowered, making every hair on his body stand on end.
???:....Monsters, huh? I wonder…… who the real monsters are.
Leon: What do you mean?
???: You’ll find out soon enough.
The voice stopped talking but the hallucinations started to get worse. Ophelia became extremely agitated, the world around her started to spin and a sharp ringing pierced her eardrums.
Ophelia: Ugh… It's awful, my ears hurt.
Leon tried to get close but she stopped him.
Ophelia: Stay back! I don't want to hurt you.
While fighting back the illusion, she steeled herself to act on her plan, preparing to die with her next move. But then, she heard a loud noise like a *pop* inside her head.
Ophelia: Aahhh!!
The pain forced her to fall forward. No sooner that her knees touched the ground, the vampire made his move. He ferociously charged at her, revealing himself into the light. For the first time, Leon witnessed the monster’s appearance. Pale skin, almost translucent, showing the flesh and bones underneath. Sharp fangs, long nails on his hands and feet, and what looked like a wing coming out of his back. The man truly looked like a human turned into a bat.
Leon: Ophelia!
Leon reached for her but the vampire was too fast, his mouth opened wide, ready for the moment he would bite down on her head….. But, that moment never came. To Leon's surprise, the monster was stopped in his tracks.
???: GH ... .ah…?!
He stood still, the blade of Ophelia’s sword piercing his skull through the mouth.
Ophelia: Got you.
She rose to her feet with slightly unsteady legs, keeping a strong grip on the hilt of her sword, the only thing maintaining the distance between her and the creature.
???: Aaahh…..You little….!!!
He started moving again, hovering over her, letting the sword plunge deeper into his skull.
Ophelia: Ggh……
Ophelia struggled to push him back as he was inching closer with a sinister growl. Leon sprang into action. He slipped behind her to wrap one arm around her waist. He then grabbed a small grenade from his vest’s pocket, threw it into the vampire’s mouth and kicked him with all his might, making him fall backwards. With Ophelia still in his arms, he ran to the other side of the room. He pushed her against the wall and pressed his body against hers, acting as a shield. Before Ophelia could understand what was happening, an explosion rang out. A few seconds later, they separated and her eyes went wide at the scene before her. Blood and pieces of flesh splattered all over the room and the creature was on the floor, the top half of his body completely gone.
Ophelia: Whoa… You blew him up?!
Leon: He looked hungry so I gave him something to eat.
As they approached what was left of the body, she tapped Leon on the shoulder.
Ophelia: Hey, look…over there.
Following her gaze, he found a strange lump among the remains.
???: gaa….gagh
Ophelia: It’s….. some kind of bug?
Leon: I can only guess, but I think we might be looking at that vampire’s true face.
It whimpered in pain, seemingly trying to wiggle away from them.
Ophelia:... I'll finish it off.
Leon watched her expression change to something colder, darker. She marched over to the small bug-like lump and brought her sword down swiftly.
???: gggaaaaaaahhhrhrhhr….!!!!
It let out an eerie dying cry until it finally stopped moving. The fight ended with a weird tension hanging in the air. Both of them were quite shaken up by everything that just transpired. But as soon as the air started to feel less oppressing, they heard a scream coming from behind them. They turned around just to watch in horror as another vampire, a woman, was holding on to Eric’s limp body and greedily sucked up his blood from his neck.
Leon: Fuck!
Leon started to run towards them, but the mysterious woman threw Eric's lifeless body over her shoulder and retreated with superhuman speed.
Leon: Come on, let’s go after them.
Ophelia: No.
Leon: What?!
He turned to face her with a glare. She just looked back at him with a saddened expression.
Ophelia: Leon, it’s too late….
She wasn’t trying to be heartless. She's just been through this so many times to know: the moment he got bitten, there was nothing they could do.
Leon:......
Leon dropped his head down, feeling defeated. Ophelia stood by his side until her eyes fell on his blood-soaked arm.
Ophelia: Let's take a break. I brought a first aid kit with me, I'll treat your arm.
Leon searched the facility for any sign of Ophelia. He carefully walked through the maze-like halls, stealthy taking down enemies on the way. He stopped in his tracks suddenly when a strange sound like a whistle started to ring in his ears.
Leon: Ugh…
His vision blurred, his mind fogged over, making it hard to focus. He shook his head and forced himself to keep moving.
“Help”....“Save me”.....“I don’t want to die”.....“Help me”
Voices screaming, pleading for their lives resonated loudly from every direction.
Leon: Huh….? What….?
“Get away from me”....“No”....“Please, save me”
The whistling sound intensified to the point of causing intense pain. Feeling like it was about to split open, he grabbed his head with both hands and closed his eyes. When he opened them, he found himself somewhere he didn’t expect to see.
Leon: This is… How.….?
There was no doubting where he was, that place was burned into his memories.
Leon: Raccoon City…….
Before he could begin to process what was happening, he was blinded by images flashing through his mind. The gas station, the city’s streets, the police department, the underground lab, the sewers. The walking corpses chasing him at every corner, the scent of blood filling his lungs every time he took a breath. Every detail of that horrible night was replaying in his head, making his stomach twist and turn.
???: Oh? So that’s your fear…
Leon: Who’s there?
???: What a tragedy, you poor thing.
The eerie-sounding voice said in a mocking tone. He balled his hands into thigh fists.
Leon: That’s enough!!!
He shouted, his whole body shaking with anger.
???: Hehehehe….
Out of nowhere, countless zombies rose from the ground, one suddenly appeared right in front of him. Operating on pure instinct, he grabbed his hatchet to strike it down.
???: Aahh!
There was a woman’s scream followed by the sound of metal clashing. His vision finally cleared and was surprised to see Ophelia standing where that zombie had been.
Ophelia: T-that was close! You almost took my head off.
He stepped back, putting some distance between them. One look around and he realized he was still inside the underground facility.
Leon: Sorry....
Ophelia: What happened?
Leon: That’s what I want to know.
He took a moment to regain his composure.
Leon: You're by yourself?
Ophelia: Yeah, Eric took off as soon as we ran into trouble.
???: Hahahahahaha!!!!
That same voice from before let out a sinister laugh.
Ophelia: W-what is that?
Leon: We’ve got company. Watch out.
He took the lead inspecting the room for any sign of the mysterious attacker.
Leon: Do you see anything?
Ophelia:.....
Curious by her lack of response, he turned around. The moment he did, he caught sight of a sharp blade coming towards him. He managed to block it just in time before it slashed his throat.
Ophelia: Shit, I underestimated your reflexes.
Leon: What are you doing, Ophelia?
Ophelia: I was gonna make it quick and kill you in one hit. But you’re gonna make things difficult, huh?
The next instant, she threw her katana at him like a knife. While he managed to dodge it, she ran up to him with incredible speed and knocked him over. His back hit the ground as she held him down with an iron grip. She then wrapped her hands around his neck to strangle him.
Leon: Wha……you…
She didn’t speak and only stared down at him with a blank expression. He felt her fingers tightening around him, her nails digging deep into his throat.
Leon: …..gh..nrgh….
Losing his strength from lack of air, he failed to shake her off and his vision slowly faded to black.
They followed Mike until he stopped in front of a sturdy metallic door and knocked.
*Knock knock*……*knock knock knock*……*knock*
Clattering sounds could be heard from the other side and the door slid open.
???: Hurry!
A man’s voice said. They rushed inside what looked like a storage room, shelves all around and cardboard boxes stacked everywhere.
???: Ophelia!
???: Philia!
Ophelia: Jen! Elliot! You're okay!
A young woman with a little boy dashed towards Ophelia and jumped into her arms.
Ophelia: How are you holding up?
Jen: We’re fine. Well, fine may not be the right word but, we’re alive at least.
Ophelia: Good….
Ophelia then looked around the room, an ominous feeling coming over her.
Ophelia: Mike, where is everyone else?
Mike: …. They’re gone…..
Ophelia: W-what do you mean? What happened?
Mike: We—
???: Are you shitting me, Ophelia?
He was cut off when the other man walked over to them angrily.
???: You were supposed to get us out, not bring more people in.
Mike stepped in front of Ophelia protectively.
Mike: Eric, calm down.
Eric: I won’t calm down. We’ve been stuck in this pit for ages, being forced to live like rats. How much longer are we gonna have to endure this shit?
He kept raising his voice as he spoke, becoming more and more agitated.
Mike: Be quiet, you idiot. You're gonna give away our location.
Jen: Hey, don't fight….
Jen said in a whisper, slowly backing away in fear.
Eric: I’ve had enough of this. I want to get out now.
Mike: I told you to be quiet.
Eric: Shut the fuck up, old man. I’m done listening to you.
Ophelia: Guys, stop it.
They were about ready to fight and Elliot started crying. Ophelia kneeled down and took him into her arms to comfort him. Leon quickly stepped in between the two men before things escalated further.
Leon: Enough! Let's all take a deep breath and calm down.
Everyone went silent. Eric walked away first and sat on the floor on the other side of the room. Mike shook his head and let out a heavy sigh.
Mike: Sorry about that. He's just on edge…. We all are.
Leon: It's alright, I understand.
This place had really taken its toll on them. The tension was high and everyone was clearly exhausted, both physically and mentally.
Mike: So, who are you? I know Ophelia wouldn't have brought you here for no reason.
Leon: Leon Kennedy, DSO.
Mike: DSO? So it really is a case of bioweapons, then.
Leon: You know about it?
Mike: Just rumors and hearsay at my job. I’m a cop.
Leon: I see…. Well, it’s too soon to say for sure, but it’s a possibility.
He paused for a moment, stealing a glance at the others before speaking again.
Leon: You five are the only ones left?
Mike: Yeah… Can’t really complain, though. We'd all be dead by now without those twins.
Leon: Twins?
Mike: Jude and Ophelia. She didn’t tell you about him?
Leon: She told me she has a brother, didn’t mention he’s her twin.
He turned his gaze to Ophelia.
Mike: Is she… doing okay?
Leon was a bit caught by surprise. While it sounded like a normal question, he could feel there was more meaning behind it.
Leon: I just met her but she seems fine. Why are you asking?
Mike: Something Jude told me. We explored this place together every day to find a way out. But at some point, he became almost obsessed. He barely took any time to eat or rest. When I asked him why, he just said he had to hurry and get her out as soon as possible.
Leon: What was he talking about?
Mike: No idea. But maybe it’s nothing, he’s always overprotective when it comes to her.
Leon: Right….
While Leon pondered what he just heard, Ophelia joined them. Elliot had finally calmed down and was slowly dozing off on Jen’s lap.
Ophelia: Mike, please tell me what happened. Where’s Jude?
Mike: …. He went to check the room those freaks are guarding.
Her eyes widened in shock.
Ophelia: What?! And you let him go?
Mike: I was against it, obviously. I tried to talk him out of it but he wouldn't listen. And with you two gone, they took the opportunity to get the jump on us. We’re the only ones who made it out.
Ophelia: …. What was he thinking….?
Mike: He got it into his head that he could find a way to kill them for good. But he hasn’t returned since yesterday. When I ran into you guys earlier, I was looking for him.
From the other side of the room, Eric had been listening to their conversation, seething inwardly.
Eric: He must be dead already.
Mike: Knock it off. We don't know that.
Ophelia: …. Why….?
She cast her head down, clenching her fists tightly, her knuckles turning white.
Leon: He could still be alive. It's only been one day, right?
He said in an attempt to comfort her despite his years of experience telling him not to give her any false hope.
Mike: You bet. He isn’t the type to go down easily.
Ophelia: That’s true….
Leon: Ophelia, you know where that room is?
Ophelia: Yes.
Leon: Take me there. I already planned to check it out myself, anyway. And hopefully, we’ll run into your brother.
Ophelia: I hope so.
Leon: Let’s not waste time.
Just as they opened the door, something they didn't expect happened. Eric ran full speed towards Ophelia, grabbed her by the arm and ran out of the room with her. By the time the others realized what transpired, they were both gone.
Leon: Ophelia!
Mike: Dammit!
Leon: I’ll catch up to them. Lock the door behind me and don't open it unless it is me or Ophelia. No exception, got it?
Mike: Yeah… Be careful out there.
Leon gave him a quick nod and ran out after them.
Mike: tsk… What a pain in the ass.
Eric was rushing down the hallway, still dragging Ophelia with him.
Ophelia: What do you think you are doing?
Eric: What does it look like? I’m leaving this hellhole and only you know where the exit is.
Ophelia: You can’t do that. Outside isn't safe either.
Eric: Shut up! Just get me out of here.
Ophelia: Let me go!
They were so busy arguing with each other that they failed to notice the pair of golden eyes glowing in the dark.
