that is... particularly disturbing. that will certainly factor into my interpretation of depictions of parenting in the books on my next readthrough...

i’m really sorry that that is the case; obviously for the real harm that child had to go through, that is unforgivable — but also i’m sorry to you for however that knowledge affects your feelings about a series you care about. i’m used to having to separate my feelings about a work from my feelings about its creator(s), but that’s definitely still a horrible feeling, and i know others sometimes have a harder time with it than i do

Idk if you’re still active on this blog, but have you ever read any of Eddings’s other books (the Elenium, The Redemption of Althalus, etc.), or just the Belgariad/Mallorean?

i have not, unfortunately; just the Belgariad/Malloreon (and Belgarath the Sorceror, and some of Polgara the Sorceress). i might someday though!

so my whole life the only people i’ve known IRL who were familiar with the Belgariad / the Malloreon have been my mom and later my uncle and younger sister; then one day i come in to work and see a copy of Queen of Sorcery behind the front desk and i’m like ((suppressing loud autistic yelling)) “who’s reading this?” and Dan (the grumpy-seeming old front desk guy whom i’m very fond of) is like “i am, i love these books” so that was awesome

UPDATE: Front Desk Dan got me a copy of Belgarath the Sorceror for Christmas because he knows it’s the one i haven’t read yet because the copy my mom has is like falling apart and i’m afraid to touch it ;o; and i am EMOTIONAL

Okay so I was rereading belgariad for like the sonmanieth time and I was thinking about how I liked leldorin and garion together as they just have such good dynamic, and aaaghhhh. I love them al so much and am so sad he had to leave after like 70 pages I am missing him already. (Also just a note since I am on holiday I am reading a book a day)

UGH I KNOWWW it felt way too soon for him to leave; i’m sad we didn’t get more of him, especially more of him and Garion interacting. i’ve kind of paused in my current Belgariad/Malloreon reread (i believe i’m somewhere in Demon Lord of Karanda in the Malloreon) (lmao i was distracted by Naruto again) but earlier i was f l y i n g through haha
