One of the ideas that floats around my mind a lot with regard to Pokemon fics is the idea of Pocket MONSTERS, where regular old creatures exist and Pokemon are fantastical creatures that range to regular old creature + magical powers (eg Miltank, Diggersby, a lot of normal types would fit here) to mystical creature with which a skilled individual can form a contract (I’m sure you can think of a lot of Pokemon that fall under this category, but legendaries, pseudos, Pokemon who pull even deeper from myth and folklore…) and trainers are people who can form a contract with said creatures.
I think it would create a better tie between the Ranger and Trainer games, and the Trainer and Mystery Dungeon games (at least for me), and also it’s the way I’d like to approach Conquest fics. Also now that I think about it, this is a lot like some sort of synthesis of Umbra Witches in Bayonetta—Red is Bayonetta, his Pikachu is Madama Butterfly, and his Snorlax is Gomorrah… you get the point.
Anyway just wanted to talk about this before I post that Red-Green fic so that like… things make sense? They’re in the Pokemon world! It’s just different.
at some point it became a very common talking point that science fiction and fantasy ought to Represent Trans People and that exploring Weird Gender Shit without also depicting characters who are legibly transgender in Normal Ways is passé. and honestlyyyy i don't care give me a hundred more male characters possessed by female ghosts or nonbinary robots or whatever. literally what is the point of the scifi fantasy genre if you cannot connect to the fantastical
if i wanted to read about people being transgender without a wizard being involved i would open my tumblr dash. Representation will kill the reader she needs a guy who accidentally downloaded the memories of a woman on the CyberLine and can't tell them apart from his own to live
one genre of fanfiction that seems to have mostly disappeared since i became an adult is shenanigans-type fics. like not exactly crack but just "the gang goes to 7-11" type, extremely low-stakes plot stories. the beach episodes of fanfiction. i just feel like i don't see those around so much anymore. whered they go. i miss them :(
realizing a headcanon of yours happens to make an element of canon even more heartbreaking when you hadn't even considered it from that angle previously

Reguri Vampire-Werewolf weird sort of AU but not quite smut… yeah. That’s a thing now I guess
The table is set and the food is almost ready—Sylvix Weekend is just two days away! We'll post tomorrow with details about guidelines and an ao3 collection for the event. Best of luck in the meantime to everyone cooking up delicious Sylvix works!
the enlightened pervert can look beyond kink to find meaning. and then get horny about the meaning instead.
And you know what? The relationship in my head that most reminds me of Tristan-Callum is Grovyle-Dusknoir from PMD EOS, especially with how special episode 5 expands and concludes their story together.
I could very much see Grovyle and Dusknoir playing “I’ll kill you” gay chicken (and don’t they, especially Dusknoir?)
I could very much see Tristan and Callum trapped in a long-since-doomed future in which Tristan is tired and ready for Callum to betray him at soonest convenience except Callum chooses him (and don’t they, in many big and small ways, from the texts to the fact that Callum’s first response to Tristan’s abduction is to go to his aid?)
There’s differences of course. Tristan-Callum would not be what it is without the impact the rest of the six, as well as Mr Titular himself, had on them. Grovyle-Dusknoir is a lot more contained to how their characters have been shaped by the narrative (softer/more silent impact of other characters on them, especially from Dusknoir’s end - Grovyle has the MC and Celebi and Dusknoir has… Sableye chronies? A nightmare-fiend boss?)
Anyway yeah that’s my two cents I’m SURE there’s other people out there who’ve read the Atlas Series and played PMD EOS and are getting what I’m getting at.
Relistened to the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky (not darkness/time… well, not JUST those two; you’ll see why) soundtrack the other day and started tearing up when Star Cave started playing and then teared up even more when Fortune Ravine and Vast Ice Mountain came up because yeah, those special episodes were moving as all hell. Bidoof’s eagerness to prove himself… Igglybuff losing the first true friend he makes… Grovyle and Dusknoir being caught in distrust but needing to trust each other if they want to make it anywhere, and the dread and hopelessness slowly transforming into hope as the effects of the successful defeat of Dialga in the past free the future from paralysis…
The chapter full of Tristan’s many, many, MANY, scenarios was… a very difficult read.
And somehow you want me to read through 150 more pages? When you just… just pushed Libby to the VERY logical conclusion of the path she was walking?
Love love love it when Parisa and Callum get up to Some Bullshit™️ together. One of my favourite bits of the Atlas Paradox was them interacting simply once the murderous intent was out of the way.

You know, it's aggravating to read fics where the writers have created Blorbo-Centered Morality - you know, the fics where everyone who's ever been mean to Blorbo are horrible irredeemable people, and Blorbo himself had never done anything bad ever, and we will reinterpret all of canon through this lens and divide the cast into Camp A (who understand Blorbo is perfect) and Camp B (monsters to be utterly condemned)
BUT
Sometimes you find a writer who has done this for, like, a D-list minor character, and suddenly the heroes who saved the world several times are having their worth defined by whether said world-saving involved being nice to this one random dude or being mean to him. Because said random dude has become this writer's Specialest Little Guy. THAT'S very funny actually.
