Ah!! Thank you so so much! I am so entirely possessed by thoughts of them lately and I have been for a couple months.

The dynamics between each individual pair and as a group make me insane. As I’ve written more with them, even parts of the group I hadn’t considered as much have become such a cute part of their relationships to me. (RookCay, VilTrey)

They all have something special to offer each other in the way of love, support, healing, honesty, understanding, or sex. I think the more time they spend together the more entangled they become, and I think it’s cute how naturally it would happen. I want it to feel free and secure.

I have 2 more fics in the works to add to the series, one waiting to be beta read and the other still being written, so there WILL be more.

In the Diasomnia book-specifically in Trey's dream-he mentions that he can tell Cater apart from the clones.

I haven't read the stories for all the cards yet, I'm still going through the main story, so I don't know if he mentions this elsewhere or if it was just a situational thing given the dream he was having.

But Cater is surprised and even asks if Trey has always known how to do that; Trey replies, "After three years with you, it's easy," or something along those lines… I keep wondering how Trey does it, and I wanted to ask: how do YOU think Trey tells them apart?

I’ve been a little tired lately (not getting enough sleep, lol) 🥲 but other than that, I’m fine! I hope you are too.

Trey and Cater aren’t characters I like all that much, so I’m not super familiar with their interactions. I don’t recall Trey specifically mentioning he can tell Cater apart from his clones prior to book 7, but I don’t doubt that he can. Trey’s consistently able to “read” Cater and his true preferences correctly (like identifying that Cater doesn’t like sweets). I think he’d easily be able to tell the real Cater from the clones (based on his observations of the original) too.

It might be a minuscule detail that only Trey notices… Maybe a habit Cater has, a slight inflection, etc. He and Cater have been roomies as first and second years, not to mention they’re in the same grade level and dormitory. They’ve spent plenty of time together and in close proximity, so Trey’s sure to have picked up on those fine details that no one else is able to due to lack of access or physical closeness.

Adding to this: Trey did recognize Cater’s clones again in Cater’s PE vignette! While Riddle recognized them from above on his broom by seeing multiple, Trey recognized them at ground level watching one pass at a time doing laps. I recommend the direct jpn translation of this vignette if you watch, because Trey and Cater’s conversation is markedly changed in twst Eng.

In book 7 he does confirm it’s easy for him to tell because he has known Cater for so long. (Though in the dream it may also have to do with real Cater not being a literal circle like his dream-self.)

Trey does pay closer attention to Cater than anyone, besides knowing his food preferences ect he also remembers Cater’s starsending wishes from previous years, and checks his magicam regularly. (Trey’s Robes vignette) I think that contributes to his recognition.
