*crumbles into dust after finishing this* Thank you for reading! This The Hobbit webcomic adaptation thing takes a lot of effort to put together and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate every comment. I also really appreciate the people who’ve spread the word of this comic to their friends! <3

And finally, we’re at the Song of the Lonely Mountain! Within Tolkien’s canon, The Hobbit is an in-universe book that was “written” by Bilbo Baggins, who occasionally lies/embellishes/exaggerates things. The tonal differences between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings are explained by Bilbo and Frodo/Sam being different kinds of storytellers, with different relationships to “the truth.” This idea is the core of how I’m adapting the novel!  Bilbo is an unreliable narrator who is literally ‘drawing’ from his own limited experiences;  the different art styles reflect the different perspectives of other characters.   The “dwarf art style” in this chapter is inspired by stonework/metalwork in general— but especially by a mix of art deco, Celtic art, and European folk art. 

The central tension of the comic is between Bilbo and Thorin, who each have wildly different ideas about what kind of  story they’re in. Thorin is in a grand fantasy epic, while Bilbo is in a lighthearted children’s book adventure.  The tragedy is, obviously, that only one side of the story ever gets to be fully told.

On a sillier note, a few years ago I had my first gay crush on a lesbian who sang while playing the piano. This chapter is dedicated to the piano lesbian. I hope they’re doing well, wherever they are. XD

I think I might need a bit of a break but I’m hoping for the next chapter, titled “Dawn,” to arrive on January 13th. And your comments/support really do help motivate me to get more done! ^_^

Dennis and Abbot colab where they secretly are in cahoots. The goal? Unending love and affection for Robby. But also - the long awaited death of his tires.

Whitaker begs Robby to give him a tour of his house before he leaves for the sabbatical. After seeing the big sad puppy eyes, how could he say no? So Robby takes Whitaker on his motorcycle (ofc Dennis is clinging on to him for his life. Mostly because they are death machines, but also because it feels pretty nice... 😏).

When they get to his house Dennis goes in after Robby seeing out of the corner of his eye Jack pulling up near the house and getting his tools out of the trunk. That motorcycle is not gonna be functioning after Jack is through with it.

I won't get into the details but as you could have guessed the story ends with all of them in one bed and Robby finally feeling needed and loved (and also incapable of sitting for at least 24 h) 🫶

I think we all know that Robby is not leaving for his sabbatical. Something or someone has to make him stay. The way I see it, it's most likely that it will be Whitaker. We have already seen in season 1 how they have a special relationship (hehe gay) and that also carries into season 2.

Robby seems to be in a really dark place and he wants anybody, literally anybody and also everybody to see him and to tell him that they need him, that it is gonna be fine. While at the same time he doesn't want to be seen. Doesn't want anyone to know how badly he is hurting. Cause he is supposed to be the one that has his shit together.

He thinks that he should be the safe place in the storm where everyone can shelter and where you can't even feel the wind. And he is trying to project that. He has been for years. But it is hard. And trully too much for one person.

But he doesn't want anyone to see how much he is broken inside. He feels that the cracks that seep into his innards and let everyone see his true state are too wide. Robby especially doesn't want Whittaker to see this (I think Noah even stated this in an interview). Because Whitaker has already seen too much of him and because Robby sees Dennis as the future, the new begging, the life that could have been... And it should not be tainted by the life that failed and is going to self destruct soon.

Then again, in spite of all of that Robby still makes Dennis his last safety nett - the only person who has a good reason to stay with Robby after his shift.

I think Robby is not in control of his own actions right now and the rational part of him that sometimes takes over, that is trying to save him from himself knows that Whitaker is the sunlight, the one that really understood him last time, the one that helped, the one that sees him, knows what to say and the one most likely to actually say "We need you Robby. I need you. Please stay".

Or yk... he just wants to get with that boy so bad that he gave him his house 🤪

Dennis is panicking. Robby is almost finished with the tour around the house. Fuck. He cannot leave. What if he actually doesn't come back? Dennis would never forgive himself for letting him slip away, when he could have stopped it.

'And yeah, that's about it. Remember. No babies. No Amy. You have to set boundaries.' The attending says while handing Whitaker the keys to his house.

Heading towards the door. He turns before opening it. As Robby puts his palm on Whitaker's shoulder he looks at Dennis with a weight in his gaze that is clearly supposed to not show too much, but something is seeping through the high walls of the damb. 'See you in three weeks. And if not, good luck kid. You really are doing great, keep it up.'

*Fuck. Will I have to tackle this man to the floor and tie him up? What the fuck do I do? How do I stop him? This is really bad... And now he is looking at me with his big brown eyes. He cannot fucking leave. I need him.*

'We need you Robby. Please come back.' Whitaker surges forward and hugs Robby. He doesn't care if it's weird or if he maybe his attending won't return the embrace. He is not having regrets. Not about this.

'Bye kid.' Robby squeezes him for a second then lets go and opens the door to head out... Except. No. Whitakers prayers have been awnsered!

Jack freaking Abbot is standing at the doorway looking pissed and worried at the same time. 'Hey brother.'

'Jack. Let me through. I need to leave. I am already behind schedule...' the further he gets into the sentence the less sure he seems of himself.

'Nah. You are not going anywhere.'
