Now that P5R is out in english, FYI for newcomers to this blog, I will post end game spoilers on this blog. Since I’ve already played it in Japanese. That being said I’ll try to keep my english playthrough stuff chronological (but don’t go backwards past this post cause there’s end game stuff)

Sumire and Kasumi birthday time frame theory (spoilers for Royal)

Duh spoilers, also more like a fun guess I spent an hour on but 8U

Ok watching the the Kasumi death scene, it turns out that Kasumi/Sumire aren’t twins, they’re “same year siblings” aka “Irish twins” aka (if you aren’t familiar with that term) it means two siblings who are born within 12 months of each other (bonus points if they are born in the same calendar year). Kasumi and Sumire seem to both be 1st years in high school (or well 1st years if Kasumi lived, possibly still 3rd years in middle school in the flashback) in 2016. Since Sumire mentions “last spring” (which means the beginning of the game, from what I can tell, and it’s before enrolling in to Syujin (so they might still be 3rd years in middle school there). But it means they are in the same grade year, possibly not just the same “calendar year” (because it’s possible for them to be born in the same calendar year but in different grades, see the Futaba entry here, well I’ll bring it up later but there’s the link to my original post if you want 8U)

But, assuming......they are both in the same grade year, we can probably pinpoint a decent time frame for their birthdays. So, a refresher for those who clicked the link above (or just a teaching moment for those who didn’t). Japanese elementary school kids start school who’s 6th birthdays are on or before April 1st. Which means the cut off dates look like this April 2nd of 20XX-April 1st of 20XY (because April 1st is the last day to be in that time group). Let’s look at an example, so Kanji was born Jan 19, 1996 and he made the April 2nd 1995-April 1st 1996 cutoff for 1st years in 2011-2012. 

Now let’s look at Futaba (P5) and Maiko (P3 SL). Futaba we know her birthday was Feb 19 (c. 2001, c. cause it’s not officially stated due to P5 not officially stating it takes place in 2016 despite giving us hints to it being that time frame), and is supposed to be a 1st year in 2016 (so 2001 gives us that year). Maiko we don’t know her birthday be we do know she’s a Libra and google says that is Sept-Oct whatever dates (basically a later in the year birthday), and the game states she’s in 2nd grade in 2009 (2nd years turn 8, so 2009-8 gives us 2001). But Futaba was born earlier in the year, which means she’d attend her 1st year in high school in 2016 while Maiko would be a 3rd year in middle school (because it was Feb which is prior to the April cut off date, while Maiko is Sept/Oct after the April cut off date of 2001), which shows that two people born in the same calendar year doesn’t mean they are in the same grade year.

So, with Kasumi and Sumire, it’s looking like they ARE in the same grade year, but unsure if they are in the same calendar year. But we do know a time frame for how long it takes for a baby to be made (and assuming Sumire isn’t born early or late, cause I dunno if she was), and we have a max and a min for cut off dates so let’s get started. Kasumi’s earliest birthday would have to be April 2nd of 2000, with Sumire’s latest birthday being April 1st 2001. 

Going off of Sumire’s later birthday guess (april 1st), and the fact it’s roughly possible to get pregnant within days of having your first child, and backtracking thanks to this website, it’s possible Kasumi’s latest possible birthday (as well as a rough time period Sumire was conceived) is 7/9/2000. Now we’re gonna do the reverse, with Kasumi’s earliest birth date.....thanks to this website (I tried two, with two different years on two different websites tbh, but no one would give me 2000, but both gave me the same month/day date) and we got Dec 23.

Kasumi was possibly born sometime between: April 2nd-(about) July 9th of 2000

Sumire was possibly born sometime between:(about)Dec 23 2000-April 1st 2001

Again, these are possible min/max dates to fit thin within the same grade year. You could theorize that, because Sumire is apparently now hitting her growth spurt in the Spring Kasumi death flashback, it might indicate that she has a spring birthday (because Kasumi already hit her’s awhile ago), but there’s nothing really backing that up (you’d have to justify that because she just had/is close to her birthday she suddenly hit a growth spurt).

This is mostly for fun, and I’m only going off of that scene in particular (I haven’t had time to watch the other scenes to really comb through to see if there’s any other indication towards their birthdays). But yeah, unless for some reason P5R mentioned how they aren’t in the same grade year and I missed it, this should be a good min/max guide to when they were born (assuming, again, someone wasn’t born late nor early).

The biggest crime of the fandom is no one told me that Kasumi/Surime went glasses shopping with P5MC during her rank 4 event, and he put on P4MC’s classes and the P4 gag glasses.

Apparently Jose’s star is what caused Mona to transform (ok less miffed now), and the black star we see at the end is it having used up all it’s power. XP

You know if people are right about Sumire forgetting, or at least forgetting the Persona stuff (part of me is thinking she got SEES’d, you know how everyone kinda knew each other after Nyx but forgot for awhile?)....then that might be 1) a plot thread for a sequel and 2) Atlus’ attempt to save P5D.....but..... That’s Sumire..... Not the rest of the PT right? So....why don’t they talk about Sumire in P5D (I mean we know WHY, I’m talking about like this is an issue now cause they don’t and atlus should’ve waited till later to release P5D)? Cause they are fine, they should at least mention how she seems off or whatever....cause at least she’s still alive and around and left an impact on them. afasl;dafjk

Of course the translators might’ve gotten something wrong in which case, we’re back to the square 1 issue

Theories from people who translated:

Ohhhh so apparently Sumire got her memory wiped at the end? And Igor might’ve reset the past year (to be more similar to Vanilla P5?) but it could also be a little prior to that (aka 2 years instead of 1, but not 3 cause that would’ve brought Wakaba back) so Kasumi might even still be alive (that or Sumire is still posing as Kasumi)? So I guess when Sumire saw MC at the train station, it might’ve been the real Kasumi or Sumire (tho Kasumi has a beauty mark unless we’re missing something here, so it’s probably just posing Sumire).

Takuto’s now a regular therapist?

That or Takuto reset Sumire’s memory and is just helping the PT out. Apparently there are a lot of plot holes (or imo possibly just loose ends, trust me I’m picky on P5′s plot holes myself, and this smells more like loose ends for P5S to me)

Edit: But considering the Valentines day and White day events, Sumire should remember MC so she might be joking???? This is all kinds of weird. XP

They should’ve waited on P5D, and expanded on P3D instead

I find it funny how people were throwing PQ2′s canon into question cause of Royal, and then Royal’s cause of Scramble. And fklsdjakl;af like regardless everything is canon just a different timeline. As for Scramble it’s more them withholding info.

But what I’m more curious about is P5D.........that’s put things out of wack. So like PQ2′s safe cause Kasumi doesn’t even join for Shido’s dungeon (tbh they should’ve made it that if you max her she joins and the story changes a bit because of that, same with Yaldy, would’ve really had choices matter more), and PQ2 is right when Sae’s joins.

P5D however.....I remember ANN doing a theory post on it back when the JPN ver came out, it being that P3D takes place somewhere between August 8-Sept 1 and P5D most likely taking place somewhere between Feb 13-March 3 (reasons listed). And while P5R it still fits into that, it’s the impact of the Jan/Feb events should have on the rest of the PT that is going to make it harder. Plut the fact there’s Sumire and then Goro is def in their memories and care....it’s weird they aren’t in mourning of Goro. Like even if they weren’t in mourning for Goro, where the heckie is Sumire??? She’s alive, she’s important to the team now....P5D now feels weird not having them talk with or about her. 

This is one of the reasons I think P5D should’ve been released well later (at least after P5R). Not just because of the poor song selection, but because I just knew it’d screw over Sumire (and Goro). They should’ve just either put the whole of P5D’s budget into P3D and/or a port/remake of an older Persona game. P3D could’ve had two “story modes” of Minato vs Hamuko, and had maybe a dance thing going on between Theo vs Liz in the two worlds. Probably would’ve been better to release that post-PQ2 tho. Keeps the same plot as P3D vs P5D (aka the dance off), but it adds a new layer of meta between the worlds and two routes. And we could’ve gotten alternate SLs with the members because of the two different MCs! ;w; (oh and also more songs and dances would’ve been cool too)

P5D could’ve had a legit story mode like P4D (not that I didn’t want P3D to have a legit story mode ;w;), or they could’ve been cheap stinky poo poos again and screwed us on a plot, but instead put that whole budget into more dancing! With the “plot” being that the twins/La-chan want to prove to their siblings that the thieves are better at whatever it is again that we need a dance off for. But this time Kasumi is involved! And at least have them hint their thoughts on Goro (or ignore him whatever Atlus)

Sorry with each installment that goes by I really wish they waited on P5D.
