earlier today i told an acquaintance in passing that i'll often be in the middle of a novel and think "man i wish this shit were more ambiguous" and had to reiterate twice that i wasn't being sarcastic before they believed me, so this post is to say: i love when writers don't bother to explain everything, i love when stories end uncertain and unsettling, i love being required to think as a reader, i love when stuff makes no damn sense, no i'm not kidding
As my dramaturgy mentor likes to say, 'be wary of pursuing clarity at the expense of potentially fertile contradictions and tensions'
Tip for creative writers:
Life, places, and people are multidimensional, it's okay to get wild when exploring that.
When you write a story, it's like you're creating worlds.
Some of my favorite writers ever, took their work in directions I was completely not expecting.
“Okay”
You ask me how my weekend was.
I don’t know what to say.
It was so full of lovely things;
misfortune kept away.
But, still, I’m stuck here with my mind.
My memory won’t fade,
and Thursday’s heartbreak dogs my steps.
I say, “It was okay.”
in 2026, remember how GOOD writing feels. remember how satsfying it is to get your characters to the point you have been dying to get to, where they will experience the love, fear, relief or whatever the feeling you want to bring to life may be. let this year be the year of writing, prgress and of satisfactory endings.
Forgive yourself

my daily affirmation as an author
The curse of writers 101: Having this great idea late at night, this idea that is so damn awesome it could possibly change the world, but not writing it down because 'I'll remember it anyways' -- and then forgetting it completely, head hurting from trying to remember.
So yes, having this great idea which you don't remember so now you have no ideas... Fuck me.
