a common response i see to the true statement "trans men have privilege over trans women" is often something that goes like
"but by the world at large, which is generally transphobic, trans men don't get read as men and trans women dont get read as women. therefore it's really mean and hurts my feelings to say that trans men have male privilege"
1) male privilege doesn't mean you are never oppressed ever. men of color, disabled men, gay men all have male privilege over women of their respective marginalizations, and are nonetheless oppressed on the basis of race, ability, or sexuality. the two things are non contradictory. in fact this is the basis of intersectionality
2) to say that all trans men are read as female all the time, and all trans women are read as male all the time, is to say effectively the same thing as 4tranners who complain about "passoids". you literally sound like "ill never pass, and neither will anyone else! it's useless to even try to transition because the transphobes can always tell". which is a) incredibly self hating and stupid and defeatist. and b) literally misgendering the vast majority of trans people you dont know
and 3) even if that were the case, even if we lived in a reality that you imagine where no trans people pass and every cissie misgenders us all the time... they treat trans men as confused idiot little girls, and trans women as evil pedo rapists who need to be murdered. they're calling for men to detransition, but they're calling for women to die.

There are a lot of people who start creative projects with no business or financial plan, because "who cares, it isn't important, we'll figure that out later". And you can't let yourself become that person. Not because I'm a sneering finance bro who thinks your woke animated youtube series wont make money, but because if you don't you'll wind up financially exploiting your friends for years
Look, it's none of my business if you wanna work yourself to the bone for no money so you can make your dream project a reality. I think you shouldn't, but also let's be real that's basically a rite of passage for young creatives. But as soon as you start involving other people? You need a plan. You need to be able to compensate them for their time, and you need to have it in writing
head in my hands, as someone who does extensive freelance TTRPG work - an industry in which the vast majority of those involved are doing it as a passion project/side hustle, and in which many people are friends with those they work for and with:
if you are doing any creative project with someone else in which money will be involved, make a contract. Doesn't need to be super formal. Get something laid out in writing that very clearly indicates what the person you are asking to do something is responsible for, the timeline in which they're expected to complete it, and the compensation they'll get for doing so.
"oh but we've been best friends since eighth grade" make a fucking contract.
"oh but this probably won't make much money anyway" make a fucking contract.
"oh but I don't know all that legalese" there are tons of pretty accessible templates available online if you research, just make sure it's one that suits your needs and you understand what's in it (it can be written in normal language without legalese, as long as it's clear), and make a fucking contract.
I've heard horror stories about this shit destroying projects, friendships, livelihoods, and in most cases the fallout could have been avoided (or at least mitigated) by having a clear legally binding document about everyone's responsibilities and compensation from the get-go. Do not assign someone work without a contract or some form of written agreement; do not work without a contract or some form of written agreement. please for the love of god.

i do think the negative interpretations of "im probably nonbinary but i have a job right now" are kind of reaching. it's obviously a waste of time to theorize the op's intended meaning, so instead i think it's better to recognize how the phrase can be a useful framing device to criticize how much of a fucking hassle it is to get gendered correctly. "but i have a job" e.g. will face discrimination that could threaten livelihood; e.g. don't have the mental bandwidth to explain gender to others; e.g. don't have the time and energy for the soul-searching necessary to confirm. all three of these are labor issues. yes you could interpret it as "but being nonbinary isn't important enough to worry about", despite that being a blatantly bad-faith read. it's more useful to interpret it as "but being publicly nonbinary requires a lot of social effort that, in many cultural contexts, will create more problems that you can't afford to deal with". like cmon it's a really good jumping off point for productive conversations about queer labor rights

i have understood so many things about online leftist culture by the fact that when i said "your local community has people you will morally and politically disagree with but you cannot lock them out of accessing any tangible service you’re organising" one of the tags responding said "this isn’t about proshippers in here you’re not welcome" like. folks. focus with me. some of us are homeless here.
There's a disconnect happening here because the primary function of social media for most casual users is to form a circle of friends around the usual things that friendships are built on: shared interests and lifestyles and ideas of what is important and what is unacceptable. When people are mainly doing leftism on social media, this encourages thinking of leftism as centered around establishing high-minded social clubs.
For anyone who still isn't getting it from someone who helps people IRL: There's a difference between whom you're helping to feed at the mealshare and whom you're choosing to hang out with for fun after the mealshare. You don't have to invite a hungry person with opinions you don't like to play board games with you, but you do have to help keep them from starving if you're serious about leftist organizing.

I think the reason why gag candidates are so common in UK elections is thus:
1. Relative ease of running for parliament - you just need 10 signatures of residents in the constituency + £500. Which obviously is not a small sum of money but it's low enough that people are willing to blow it on a publicity stunt or a protest.
2. First past the post system + being a small country means that every general election is made up of 650 local elections, typically 1-2 towns worth of people.
3. Deep seated irreverence for politics.
the way i see it the benefit of the gag candidate is threefold:
to provide a kind of 'none of the above' option on the ballot paper, as a candidate with no actual policies or stances. unlike spoiling your ballot votes for gag candidates are real votes; there will be a publicly available figure of how many people chose the man with the bin on his head over any of the actual politicians.
to act as an ongoing reminder that anyone can run for parliament on any platform. and that's beautiful!
to act as a reminder to politicians not to get too big for their britches. yes, you might be the prime minister, but on election night? you share the stage with the man with a bin on his head. :)
