Which OC?
Oh look who it is, been awhile since I've seen them lol
Fucking thank you!
The infuriating part is that people apply the pop-psychology definition of "trauma-bond", but apply the actual psychology judgement of it, as in, "obviously bad, duh, everyone knows that".
The number of times I've been given shit for my relationships being "trauma-bonds" specifically cause I date fellow disordered people for the mutual understanding, is fucking astonishing.
[image description: flyer clarifying the meanings of various psychological terms, cut in two, which says "pop psychology" on the left and "actual psychology" on the right.
In pop psychology, "trauma bonding is when you're bonding with someone over shared trauma or similar past experiences." In actual psychology, "A trauma bond refers to the situation where someone develops strong feelings of sympathy, loyalty, dependance, and attachment towards their abuser."
In pop psychology, "Gaslighting is when someone lies to you, questions you, or disagrees with you over what happened." In actual psychology, "Gaslighting is an abuse tactic where you are manipulated to question your reality, memory, or sanity—not just a disagreement over what happened."
In pop psychology, "Being triggered means that something makes you uncomfortable or annoyed." In actual psychology, "A trigger is something that causes a sudden increase in symptoms—like flashbacks in PTSD or compulsions in OCD. Its not just a source of general discomfort."
In pop psychology, "Intrusive thoughts are random impulses you might want to act on; e.g. wanting to do something unexpected like dye your hair pink or eat cake for dinner." In actual psychology, "Intrusive thoughts and unwanted, involuntary thoughts that go against your real value and desires. You dont want to act on them, and them coming true would be your worst nightmare. They can be very prominent and distressing in disorders like OCD and PTSD."
End description.]

Who's more paranoid
Marinette Dupain-Cheng (miraculous ladybug season 6)
Jonathan Sims (the magnus archives season 2)
...I've been watching/listening to both at the moment and thought this was funny
FYI, if you have critical thinking skills and/or a modicum of empathy, you CAN love Wei Wuxian AND Jiang Cheng at the same time. They are both incredibly complex characters AND their relationship is so complicated and the majority of the complication is completely outside their control. NGL I fully believe that WWX would be absolutely heartbroken if he heard all the vitriol the JC haters spew.

what people miss about these yaoi/yuri/het debates is that it isn't about dictating what people must ship to be considered progressive; it's about analyzing how wide societal trends and bigotries show up even in fandom spaces. YOU get to decide what to do with that information.
By pointing this stuff out, people hope to inspire self-reflection about how you engage with different dynamics. Asking things like, "Why can't you see the guy with a black woman?" or, "Why can't you connect with f/f ships?" or, "Why do you consider masc x fem f/f or m/m heteronormative?" It's a prompt, not an attack on your ships or character.
Imo, asking "is het, yaoi or yuri the most progressive?" is a silly endeavor. Misogyny and racism show up in all three dynamics. How many times have we seen 'big masculine barbaric darker character x pale waifish feminine classy character' in m/f, m/m and f/f ships? How common are het ships where the man doesn't even seem to like the woman? Or where the female love interest is treated like a reward for the man? How frequently do stories push aside female characters to highlight male ones, whether the main pairing is m/f, m/m or f/f?
As for the shippers, I've seen a lot of misogyny from m/f shippers AND m/m shippers over the years. Not as much from the f/f side, but it crops up there too. I've seen quite a bit of homophobia from m/f shippers (less from f/f and m/m)*. With racism in particular, I've observed it from ALL parties; whether towards the poc love interest 'in the way' of an m/m (or even m/f or f/f!) ship, or towards the poc within any pairing.
*I think there needs to be distinction between queer people +allies who like m/f vs the overwhelmingly straight audience who hold varying degrees of homophobia
It's highly situational and these racist and/or misogynistic and/or homophobic portrayals and behaviors deserve to be discussed openly without people immediately getting defensive or trying to "out-progressive" each other.
...and it's not lost on me that this current batch of discourse started regarding misogynoir of m/m shippers towards a black female love interest.
one thing everyone who is struggling with cooking for themselves needs to know is that the shittiest rice cooker, like the ones that cost $5 at rite aid, can make entire meals. you can put anything you want (except uncooked meats that need prolonged temperatures to be safe to eat) in with the rice and push the button and go lie down for 20 minutes. you will learn through making slightly over or undercooked rice a few times how you need to adjust the liquid:rice ratios. you can put rice, a bag of baby carrots, whatever salt and spices, and a can of tuna (or a can of shredded chicken, beef, etc, or tofu, or canned beans, or canned tomatoes) in a rice cooker and it will be completely edible in ~20min. it costs like $1 per batch, less if you get regular carrots and cut them into chunks yourself. you should have frozen spinach and peas and corn in your freezer, or whatever frozen veg is safe for your food allergies. this kind of meal can survive in the fridge for a while and the freezer even longer. if you make it badly it wont poison you and can be salvaged with hot sauce, if you make it disastrously it can be thrown away without losing more than a dollar or two. if you make it okay it fullfills the Just Need Some Real Food requirements completely. if you need more calories you can add butter or oil, or eat sour cream on the side. if you forget about the rice cooker or fall asleep it will dry out on the bottom but wont burn. they should teach you this in 5th grade
If you enjoy an odd cookbook, Roger Ebert wrote "The Pot and How to Use It" in 2010. It's a rice cooker cookbook but also just an ode to the rice cooker. It's out of print but worth looking for at your local library; it's also available on The Internet Archive
thank you!! also i forgot to mention: when you are too sick or depressed to do dishes, you can eat your dinner out of the rice cooker pot itself. just dont touch a metal or ceramic utensil to the actual pot because it will scrape the nonstick coating which causes a lot of problems for another post. wooden or plastic spoon or chopsticks, or just eat carefully out of the middle of the pot without touching the sides. or you can use the actual rice paddle, who cares. ive done it! if youre too sick to cook "properly", making a one pot rice and veg and protein bowl and eating it directly out of the pot in your pajamas is 100% fine. you will recover and function so much better after eating a hot meal made of actual ingredients.
is he ever happy
