When I say women should have higher standards for how they're treated, this is exactly what I mean. At the first insult? Kick. Him. To. The. Curb.
Seriously. What the fuck did he think was going to happen?
protip for everyone, but mostly boys in this case:
when you are on a date, and someone has an interest you don't quite get, instead of saying lol lame, try saying hmm i don't quite get that, please explain that to me, and then listen as the other person talks about why that thing is something they are in to.
you might learn something which recontextualizes the matter, and you will definitely learn something more about your date, which is the entire point of dating.
you don't have to be a superfan by the end, but you will have shown you can be chill and take an interest in stuff, which is much more likely to result in a second date instead of being ditched in a coffee line.
this also works outside of dating, btw.
āHmm, okay, okay *Nods*. Not really something Iād be interested in unfortunately, but itās wonderful how passionate you are about it.ā
the first time i heard the phrase āi need that like a hole in the headā it didnāt even occur to me that many people donāt live with passive suicidal ideation at all times so i just assumed it was a way of saying that you really really needed something and i have continued to use it that way ever since

Gonna try to be coherent on this, so wish me luck.
I donāt feel that the ending for Nolanās Odyssey was earned on an emotional level, and it results in the whole thing feeling boring.
Firstly, the narrative is disjointed, with damn near the story up to arriving at Ithaca being shown as flashbacks and stories. While this is (apparently) accurate to the source material, a good viewing experience it does not make. Because of the disjointed narrativeājumping between Telemachus asking people about his father, flashbacks to the titular Odyssey, and even further back to the Trojan Warāwe are losing the escalation of desperation with Odysseus trying to get home. A more linear narrative would better allow the audience to see the increasing desperation and the lengths he is willing to go to get home. With it jumping around so much the vibe comes off less like escalating desperation and more arbitrary choices. Additionally, being stuck on Calypsoās island combined with the Lotus Eaters (yes they combined the two) puts Odysseus into a drug addled stupor for seven years where he even forgets he has a family before Calypso snaps him out of it. Itās a convoluted way to keep him away for that length of time because they donāt have the benefit of divine intervention to keep him on the island because the only Greek god with any ACTUAL presence is Athena, whoās presence is more like a hallucination of Odysseusā and doesnāt actually DO anything. So the whole Calypso part removes the desperation of wanting and needing to leave but being unable to, and replaces it with the equivalent of getting high and losing track of time at your friendās house. Thereās otherwise nothing stopping him from floating a raft back to Ithaca and waking up on the beach. No final confrontation with the forces that kept him away, just āsurprise youāre home!ā It feels very, very unearned. The removal of the direct influence of the gods really fucked the story up.
And because of this lack of emotional buildup, the reunion between him, Telemachus, and Penelope is less (to borrow from Epic) āSon Iām finally home!! *Big emotional and well earned hug*ā and more like āhey honey sorry Iām late traffic was crazyā. The father/son reunion basically goes like āwait youāre Odysseusā āMmhmmā āOkay.ā No tearful embrace or anything, just a quiet realization of āoh hey this is my father that Iāve not seen in 20 yearsā. On a narrative level yeah I suppose it works, but for someone watching the movie it feels very, very undercooked.
Ultimately, if youāre in love with Nolanās movies, watch it I guess, but otherwise save your money and go watch Epic The Musical compilations instead, or any other adaptations of the Odyssey by people that actually give a shit.
ohhh my god I just fact-checked, Nolan actually DID cut the "Nobody" scene from his Odyssey movie. Mfer that is like cutting the Father reveal from Star Wars. Let me speak in a language you understand this is like not dressing Batman up in his suit. "It was not possible to work it in" the TikTok musical with a budget of $4 and a scratched Hamilton CD managed to work it in in SONG form, step up your FUCKING GAME
I got a free ticket to this movie and i have Thoughts (below the cut in case anyone??? Is worried about spoilers??)
Watching it right nowāpirating that shit ācause I donāt have the cash to splash on IMAX and I donāt feel like giving Nolan the satisfactionāand in like the first ten minutes we got more Telemachus than we have Odysseus, some ugly-ass armor, and Holland referring to his parents as āmomā and ādadā, which honestly throws me more than anything so far, up to and including the half buried sculpted horse full of sneaky Greeks that was supposedly left on the beach as a gift for Athena.
āWell at least youāre watching it, so you might actually enjoy it.ā
No, Iām watching it so I can more accurately hate it.
Finished the damn movie and it made me something far worse than angry or annoyed. It made me bored. It was boring. They took a mythical and fantastical story and tried to do the gritty realism with it. Canāt speak for anyone else but I was wanting The Odyssey by way of the Clash of the Titans remake, not the gritty realism where they strip the fantastical elements from everything.
Thank God I pirated the damn movie otherwise Iād want my money back.
No ya know what? Adding to this. I can only think of one other movie that Iāve seen that I wanted my money back onāeven though someone else bought my ticketāand that was Shyamalanās Avatar The Last Airbender. And at least I wasnāt fucking bored with ATLA. ATLA was entertaining compared to this gritty realistic pice of shit.

bro are you fucking kidding me they might as well have left out the damn boat
In a communist economy, at least it's way harder to say: "Screw the economy, I just want people to eat. Money is just numbers on paper or in computers. What matters is that people have food and shelter and heating and sanitation".
If there's a five year plan, then there is no abstract "the economy", there's just goods and services and inputs and outputs. That makes a certain kind of economic illiteracy impossible. In the end it doesn't matter, because idiots can't vote, smart people can't vote, nobody can vote, but you read in the papers that 98% vote for the communists.
communism is based entirely in that economic illiteracy? you just claim the outputs are good and when they're not it's due to capitalist infiltration
I mean thatās how these clowns talk about politics and social political protests. āOur people only stand up for what is good and right and weād NEVER riot or act out of pocket, anyone that does is AKTSHULLY a far-right/cop infiltrator agitatorā. Always in the right, never in the wrong. Like people donāt have eyes to see.
This honestly seems pretty cool.

There's a golden rule on social media ā as in life generally ā that the more someone proclaims their own virtue, such as self-described "progressives", the more unpleasant they turn out to be.
When, for example, you come across a social media profile which includes a variation of the words "be kind", you know for certain that their views will be anything but. That holds not just for individual posters, but for entire sites.
The progressive website Bluesky, for example, has grown quickly since Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022. In September 2023 Bluesky had barely a million registered users. By this April it had 43.5 million.
Its users have largely decamped from Twitter because they consider it to be too Right-wing and therefore evil.
What is disturbing about Bluesky is the dangerous herd mentality imposed by and for the site's users. Post anything that questions a modern Left shibboleth and you'll be swarmed with abuse. Bluesky also exposes that broader truth about so many on the Left ā that those who consider themselves to be members of the community of the good so often reveal themselves to be unspeakable in their actual behaviour.
That trait has been rammed home on Bluesky in reaction to the death of Ann Widdecombe, which has become a Mardi Gras of exultation at her death, with posters so consumed by their own sky-high sense of self-worth that they happily post their comments in their own name, unable to conceive that anyone not consumed with the same progressive rage might consider their words toxic.
Heather Herbert, for example, a former Labour Holyrood candidate, posted this: "And some good news for once. I hope it was an extremely painful death." She then added: "And I hope she was handcuffed to the bed as she screamed in agony." Other posts called her a "racist old b---h" and described her death as "entertainment".
The journalist Robert Shrimsley posted a measured, respectful response to her death: "Sad news about Ann Widdecombeā¦Didn't share many of her social views but she was a woman of strong principles, far better and kinder than her caricature."
He was immediately taken to task for not sharing in the jubilation over her death, with a string of hostile comments:
"Learned about her only because of her death and it sounds like she was a rather rancid person who has spent her life making lives of other people worse. Seems like nothing of value was lost."
"Her politics and opinions were vile, esp for someone purporting to be a Christian. She did not make the world a better place, despite her being in a better position than most. Good riddance, to an absolute piece of work."
"She was an irredeemable monster who did nothing but harm but she was polite sometimes so it's very morally complicated."
"You should always say good things about dead people. She's dead! Good!"
"Britain is a better place for her death. I'm sorry if you think that's uncouth or you disagree with this view but I hope you appreciate that I'm a woman of strong principles (strongly believing bigots should rot in hell)."
This is just a small selection. Search "Ann Widdecombe" on the site and you will be horrified by the quantity and content of the results. But remember: these are the self-described good people.
It's true that Twitter ā now X ā has become even more of a cesspit since Musk took over, but that is largely through anonymous users and because X now refuses to act against almost anyone, no matter what they post. These are the actions of a small minority of troll users who go to great lengths to hide their true identity.
But that is not the case on Bluesky. The Left is so sure that its ideology is correct and therefore morally pure that the bile I have quoted above will be shared by users displaying their full names and photographs, sometimes even with their employers in their bio.
Online abuse is therefore reframed as "speaking truth to power", even when the "truth" in question is them cheering on the murder of an elderly woman in her own home.
People consistently wonder why I'm as a vocal about the dangers of Islam as I tend to be. And it is literally because they view their faith not just as the truth. They view it as absolute truth whereas nothing else on earth can feasibly be correct. To a dogmatic degree.
And people might bring up Christian groups going into other countries in an attempt to spread the faith but what they don't tend to tell you is that for the most part, with very few exceptions, these individuals were not trying to upturn entire cultures. They were not spreading the faith with the intention of dismantling culture.
And, even if you had a generally decent point in regards to Christianity being forced on certain individuals, that was decades ago; centuries ago. And since the founding of the United States one has never been forced under law to be Christian. Contrary to how a lot of liberals want to view history and our country. These people do not care about liberalism. Which is funny because liberals absolutely love them. They want to destroy liberalism. They want to destroy the West. And they want to convert the entirety of the world even by use of force and subterfuge to get there. They will convert your countries to Islam. And then they will uproot an absolutely eradicate democracy or any form of democratic process.
And that is just an objective fact. These people willingly and openly admit this because they know liberals will come to their defense. These people want to spread Islamic theocracy across the world. They want to spread their views and their values alone. And they will do so by any means that they need to. Which includes literally weaponizing bleeding heart liberals and neoliberals in order to be a weapon against people who are pushback against them. And then when they do finally achieve their goal, their faith does not allow for dissent. Which means that all of the bleeding hearts no matter how far left they are, we'll either convert or be purged.
Basically the same way the Communists do things. "Thank you for the assistance comrade now it's time to be put down. Face the wall. You are too dangerous to keep alive". And it's so weird to me that these people actually think that Muslims are in favor of LGBT rights. That they're in favor of trans rights. That they're in favor of even women's rights. Most countries that have Islam as a primary faith have some of the worst rights on Earth for most people. And to this day I have no idea how they managed to convince so many progressives and neo progressives, that they are humanitarian havens. They aren't and they would gladly slit your throat if they thought they were winning. And guess what? In the UK they're getting there. The UK within the span of 15 years will be an Islamic nation and within 10 years after that or less they will be a Sharia nation.
And I want you to understand something very plain as day. The people who are pissed off at Christianity are pissed off about often times petty things. Like their family saying that they're not allowed to do something because God says it's wrong. Does that mean that there are not people in this country and in the world who have weaponized the Christian faith? No it doesn't. There are people who are effectively religious Karen's who make up their own version of the faith in their head and then hyper enforce it on everyone around them. While not holding themselves to that very standard. But, do you understand that the entire Christian faith is not like that? It seems you don't. Because you think Christianity should be abolished everywhere. But the moment people bring up Islam you think that we should be respectful of cultures and faiths.
It seems to me you don't actually give a damn about some "fake skydaddy". Because if you did you would weaponize that same hate and disdain against all other religions and most of you don't. You are quite literally just pissed off that you were told no as a child. You're mad that Christianity told you that you shouldn't have sex before marriage.
The problem is, we are the only country in the world that has the freedom of religion that we have. Certainly they have some level of freedom in Europe but that is eroding by the day. And if you listen to this man's argument, perhaps freedom of religion in its absolute, isn't a good thing. Especially when faiths like his exist for the sole purpose of uprooting entire nations and converting them to his, "only real faith". Some of you really need to open your eyes. Because they've been closed for far too long. And the bulk of you being used as weapons in this fight against the West don't realize you are literally less than human to the people fighting on the other side. You're just a convenient weapon for the time being.
"When I am Weaker Thn You, I ask you for Freedom because that is according to your principles; when I am Stronger than you, I take away your Freedom Because that is according to my principles."

Can we just make a fictional kill list? Give me your most hated religious figures, or authority figures.
That would make a neat series of uchronia if someone was into it.
Merc Muhammad, Marx, Lenin, Stalin, and L. Ron Hubbard. Iād put Hitler on the list but I assume thereād be a bit of a line and, ironically, I wouldnāt want to wait my turn (though if I was sure I was the only one with a time machine, then yeah mercāin Hitler).
Though you then get into questions of if historical figures would be a problem if you off their predecessors. Like if you take out Marx and Lenin, is Stalin still going to be a problem, or will things have changed because you took out the two major players of Communism?
So, ya know, be ready to be flexible with your time traveling targets.
I'm assuming a whole multiverse in which you can kill them (several times if you want to) and possibly where you can kill each one in a separate universe with no downstream considerations.
I like that your list starts with a religious historical figure (I'm not sure how historical he might be from reports I've heard, but then again, same for Jesus...).
If we're a bit logical, after we kill anyone from far enough in time, the world is unrecognizable. Fiction, however, doesn't need to be logical. There do go on a deicide/anti religious leader rampage, as well as an anti political asshole rampage, it's fine, you're allowed to.
Well if thereās bo downstream considerations or changes to the timeline, then the act of going back in time to kill off historical figures is only really for personal gratification as opposed to an actual messing with the timeline. Granted then you end up in a timeline where you wouldnāt have had to go back in time because the person you were going to kill never existed to be killed, then itās all paradox from there.
Also, ordering of my list was actually from historically oldest to most recent XD
