I like the idea of Simon seeing Grace as an angel, but I also like the vision of him mistaking Grace as a siren. So here is how it happened:
Simon wakes up on a Hail Mary, he doesn’t know where he is, how he got there and why he is still alive (he isn’t so sure about the last part). It’s a weird place, but he can still tell that it’s a spaceship. Before he even fully grasps his surroundings, he hears a melody. Simon momentarily freezes, eyes wide open, senses on high alert. He listens, a distant melody, beautiful tunes and hums, mesmerizing. This captivating song seems to…be getting louder, or maybe a source is getting closer. Simon curls up a bit on himself, trying to tell how far is the mysterious melody. Then he remembers old stories his mother told him when he was little, tales from earth, from places called oceans. How sailors encountered mystical creatures, sirens he recalls, with voices so captivating that the men didn’t even know they were about to die. And now you might think that it’s stupid, that he is in space, earth is dead and those were just fairytales, but also Simon just woke up from an encounter with a giant fucking sea monster, so his odds are pretty high if you ask him. As he is lost in his thoughts the song is getting louder and louder and- are those also footsteps. He can also hear a more human voice, maybe a creature tries to lure him by mimicking a human? Simon is tens, he holds his breath, waits for an inevitable. He doesn’t want to die (again, is he really alive??), but he can’t physically move and he is so tired and just wants to-
There is a man, a tall, gorgeous man who sways a little in a doorway, his eyes are as blue as the ocean from the pictures his mother showed him. This must be the creature, a siren who took his mind by a beautiful song and now took his heart by appearing in a form of the most breathtaking man he has ever seen in his life. And wouldn’t that be a much better death, to die by the hands of this siren (much better than that fucking eel). They both make eye contact, for a few seconds they just look at each other, Simon enjoying the view and accepting his faith. The spell is broken when a rock in a funny looking cage shows up next to the siren and says in this exact melody but also with a human voice: „new human awake, amaze amaze amaze, Grace Rocky can now test the new human”. Needless to say that Simon nearly falls from a bed and shrieks something along the lines of „What the fuck is that?!!” And „No you fucking won’t you weird ass creature!!!”
After a looong discussion (and convincing Simon to stop hiding in the corner, that no one will eat him, hypnotize him with a song and generally kill him) they manage to calm down.
