Why is there asexual flag discourse on tiktok and Instagram (probably twt too but I'm not touching that with a 10 meter pole)? Since when did the white stripe allegedly represent allies and allosexuals? I've always been told the white was for the spectrum. If the white stripe was the issue then why did they remove the iconic, recognisable and beloved purple stripe that represents community and keep a white stripe just changing the meaning? Wouldn't it be easier to just update the meaning of the white stripe we already had?

I mean, I feel kind of weird that we suddenly have a hot pink stripe representing love, no offense, but the grey stripe already represented demi and grey sexuality, so I don't see the need to add a stripe that conflates romantic and platonic "love" into one and allegedly also stands for aromantic? The pink stripes says: "centers all kinds of loves" but that kind of leaves out loveless and aplatonic aroaces...

They could have at least made the new purple stripe closer to the og purple

White suddenly means "spectrum of attraction" which to me is what it has always meant, someone said one day it meant allosexuals or partners of asexuals and it must have caught fire somewhere

I can't be the only one who remembers the white stripe standing for the spectrum, right? Like, I'm relatively old for the internet and I discovered the ace flag a bit over a decade ago, but damn

You are correct, and I have a whole post I made about the history of the flag, with most of my info taken directly from @avenpt.

I've identified as aspec now for over a decade, and never in my life have I heard of the white stripe standing for partners, allies, or allosexuals. My guess is it started as one person misunderstanding the purpose behind having "sexuality" as part of the asexual flag. Given that my blog is literally called "sex favorable aces", hopefully that's self explanatory why we have sexuality included in our flag. It was never about allos or partners, it was about aces who are sexual. And I'll be quite frank, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth for someone to try and define us out of our own flag, and then pervert said flag into something problematic to then "fix".

Black for lack of attraction, grey for the spectrum, white for sexuality, and purple for community. THAT is the asexual flag.
