It’s May 14th. Tumblr keeps showing me Good Omens fanart that was posted before the finale released. And every time I feel compelled to go to the artist’s blog just to check on them. Just to see if they’re okay.

The answer is usually no.

Got Covid for the first time so like any normal person I wrote a Rookanis Drabble about Lucanis being sick to cope. Started writing this when I had a fever, got too sick to write, got better, returned to it. Bon appetite.

He got sick in the Ossuary, once. An infection, separate from Spite.

Screams were no longer the only source of dryness in his throat; drainage dripped down his sinuses like the blood traveling down his chains. His breath was ragged, open-mouthed and shaky.

A part of him—one that he’d claimed to have detached from—hoped it would make the Venatori keep their distance. Not for concern of Lucanis, but of their own health.

But of course, he wasn’t that lucky. Luck didn’t exist in the Ossuary. Not before Rook.

Now, though, he lies not on the floor of a saltwater-corroded cell, but on a green chaise. He’s shed his vest and cravat, letting the cool air of Rook’s room settle against his burning skin.

Rook appears at his side and drapes a cool rag onto his head. He sighs in relief, placing one hand over the rag to press it closer.

“Keep that there for a while,” Rook says, turning to the coffee table to pour a cup of—Ugh—tea. “Here.”

“You expect me to drink this?” Lucanis asks, taking it anyway. He lifts his head to inspect the liquid inside as clearly as if he were Viago, checking for poison.

“Consider it incentive to get better. No coffee until you’re well.”

That’s enough to get Lucanis to take a sip of the tea. Though he grimaces when the honey-drenched leaf water reaches his tongue, he can’t deny how it soothes his aching throat.

“Mierda,” he mutters. “Crows aren’t supposed to get sick.”

“With all the poisons and blood you deal with, it’s a miracle you don’t get sick more often.”

“You work with corpses. How is that any more sanitary?”

“Oh, please. The Necropolis is the cleanest place we’ve visited.”

Rather than thinking of some fun retort, Lucanis gulps down another sip of tea. The relief it gives him is brief. He might actually have to ask for more.

“Why are we. Sick?” Spite asks, his visage lying across the opposite end of the couch. “We’re not there. Anymore.”

Ah. Spite’s only ever been sick once, and it wasn’t exactly in a normal circumstance. Lucanis hums, not sure where to begin with an explanation.

“Something the matter?” Rook asks as she moves behind the chaise and runs a hand through his hair. It’s as soothing as the tea, and much more pleasant to his senses. “Something else, I mean.”

“Spite wants to know why we’re sick if we’re not in the Ossuary,” Lucanis repeats, lying his head back and flipping the rag around on his forehead. He’ll let Rook take this one; he’s in no mood to explain sickness to the demon, and she loves giving him little lessons about mortality.

“Sickness isn’t torture,” Rook says with a sympathetic expression. “Not directly, anyway. It’s just something that happens to mortals. We get a little bug, and the symptoms are our body’s way of fighting it off.”

“Lucanis has. Bugs?” Spite asks out loud with Lucanis’s mouth.

“Just one bug,” Lucanis mutters. “His name’s Spite.”

While Spite hisses in annoyance, Rook chuckles. She leans over the chaise and places a kiss to Lucanis’s hairline, just above the rag.

“You’ll feel better soon. You just need rest. I know that’s difficult for you two.”

“It’s easier with you,” Lucanis says, fear for her own health the only thing stopping him from surging up and meeting her lips with his own.

Rooks smiles down at him and smoothes back his hair.

“I’ll be back to check on you soon. Rest up.”

Lucanis listens as Rook’s footsteps disappear from the room and she closes the door behind her. Though his stuffed nostrils will make sleep difficult, Lucanis had no fear as he closes his eyes and drifts off.

Maybe being taken care of isn’t so bad.

I love thinking about Lucanis and Rook just. Being so down bad for each other. Especially since Lucanis and my Rook are both demisexual. Like they went through life with almost no desire then they get together and BOOM lifetime sentences to horny jail.

Had a Lucanis image I’ve been wanting to share here for a while but I truly don’t know how to properly introduce or build up to it so here ya go

I got that glitch where he was rolling away from fire infinitely after a battle ended and I, uh, had some fun with camera mode for a while.

Currently thinking about a Rook Ingellvar who romances Lucanis and moves into Villa Dellamorte after the events of the game startling when they open their door one day and see a servant cleaning something in their room. The servant starts to apologize for scaring them but Rook just smiles and says “No I’m sorry, I’m not used to servants having skin!” before leaving. Word spreads and now the whole Dellamorte staff is terrified of them. Lucanis eventually notices the staff acting jumpy around Rook and when he finally gets one of them to explain what happened he has to tell them no, that wasn’t a threat, Rook’s just like that.

I just quickly switched the general animations and checked their names. The result is a typical 'Choose which Lucanis are you today'. Most of them are very similar and differ only in how wide open eyes, mouth or eyebrow raised. It looks more diverse in dynamics. Don't ask why his sleepy expression is called pain lol. Maybe because not getting enough sleep is a real pain.
