hi hi! i've recently noticed the trend in fandom when people like claiming that cangse-sanren chose wei changze because with him she got more freedom than she would have if she'd chosen a (future) sect leader to marry. and i'm very confused because isn't it the other way around? madam yu can do whatever and whenever she wishes. but i guess people think that servants are a class that are notoriously known for having freedom. and wei wuxian, being a husband of the very prominent great clan member, doesn't have any freedom at all
i guess i'm just baffled that cangse sanren's decision to marry wei changze is seen as some kind of strategic move to escape the horrible priviledged life of a madam of the great sect and not just simply have fallen in love with wei changze who escaped his position to travel with her

Idk, fandom likes to fill in for backstories that they feel are “too blank,” but “Cangse-sanren married Wei Changze because she loved him” is the only explanation that makes sense given what we know about her character and what Wei Wuxian remembers about his parents. The idea that Cangse-sanren married for anything other than love presupposes the idea that she had to get married at all, that she descended Baoshan-sanren’s mountain with the goal of being married off to someone. She did not. She descended into the world because she wanted to, got married because she wanted to, and had a kid because she wanted to. It really can be that simple.
I think it's odd people try to separate romance from the romance in MXTX novels. The romance and the themes of the novel build on each other. Just like any other story, the wordbuilding and the struggles the story explores give meaning. The romance doesn't exist separately but it's shaped by the world it is in, the environment, the positions of the characters and what they're up against. None of the themes of her novels make the romance "reductive" whatever tf that means, but deepen it
Exactly! The whole novel is about how despite all the bullshit they’ve been put through, our MCs stay true to themselves, which means their morals and their hearts. One is inherently intertwined with the other.

I should probably define what falls under the umbrella of generative AI here but I kinda don't feel like it, but like. using an image generator to make references. brainstorming by talking with chatgpt. generating images of characters as inspiration. all that kinda jazz counts. as of course does full-on using genAI to make your stuff.
