Thought I would share some of my recent research notes will all of you seeing that I have come to notice some interesting differences between the Pokémon of this world, and the monsters of mine.
For the purposes of this study, we will refer to this world as "Arc-1" and my own world as "Ra-1". Referring to the different creator deities of our worlds.
Subject One: Physiological differences between Pokémon and Monsters
1 ) Pokémon have traits often seen only in domesticated monster species in Ra-1.
Examples: Softer friendlier features such as larger eyes, rounder heads and less imposing physics.
2 ) A majority of Pokémon lay eggs regardless of clade.
In Ra-1 monsters of mammalian origin do not lay eggs, however those found in the clades; Aves, Reptilia, Pisces, Insecta and some Vermes do often lay eggs of different types and varieties, some hard shelled, some leathery and some membranous.
3 ) Pokémon seemingly have multiple metamorphic stages.
In Ra-1 most monsters never go through major metamorphoses, only having growth stages from childhood to adult hood, often characterised by being miniature versions of their adult counterparts, similar to the humans of this world.
4 ) Pokémon often take on forms that reflect elemental powers.
In Ra-1 monsters rarely take on forms that reflect their powers past colouration. Monsters with electrical abilities do not advertise these powers within their biology itself. This is very different to the Pokémon of Arc-1 where Pokémon often have markings, colouration and body parts that reflect their abilities.
Example: The Pokémon named "Raichu" and it's different metamorphic states (or as inhabitants of Arc-1 call it, "Evolutions") advertise their electrical abilities through colouration (often being shades of yellow, similar to the colour of electricity they produce) as well as the shape of their tails, which are shaped like lightning bolts.
Subject Two: Other differences between Pokémon and Monsters
1 ) Pokémon are seemingly domesticated.
Compared to the monsters of Ra-1, Pokémon of Arc-1 are extremely docile. Even their wild counterparts rarely show hostility or territoriality unless provoked. This differs quite a lot compared to the monsters of Ra-1, who's monsters are often extremely hostile and territorial. The Pokémon of Arc-1 are only really comparable in temperament to domesticated monster species.
2 ) Pokémon seem to have very high intellect.
Almost all Pokémon seem to have a high level of comprehension. This is clearly seen with Pokémon in captivity who are "trained" for tournaments and friendly combat. They are easily able to understand and carry out complex commands from their trainers. This is something very rarely seen in monsters found in Ra-1 outside of completely domesticated species.
3 ) Pokémon have magical abilities connected to various elements.
Though not all, most Pokémon show innate control over elemental magic, as well as regular forms of magic. Showing extreme control over these abilities unlike anything seen in our world. For example, there are Pokémon who can manipulate fire in such a way that it can form symbols within the air itself and make it move towards a precise target. Monsters in Ra-1, even with training can only breath or create fire, but can not manipulate it in such intricate ways.
4 ) Some Pokémon are created by people.
This is something extremely astounding. There are some Pokémon who were created by the sentient beings of this world, not merely domesticated or bred to have certain features, but completely created by people themselves! In Ra-1 only the gods of our world have such powers. Yet somehow, the people of Arc-1 are able to create machines that are able to obtain sentience and act in ways similar to living, breathing creatures. The only machines in Ra-1 that have similar abilities are almost all created by the god, Set.
Conclusion: Pokémon may share some similarities to Monsters upon first viewing, however they are extremely different.
