My #top9of2019 based on engagement. 2019 was such an amazing and successful year for me. I finally reached a level with which I’m happy and I’m also having so much fun with creating art! Last year was extremely frustrating and difficult, which makes me even more grateful for where I am today. I’m so glad that I started drawing 2 years ago and I’m looking forward to 2020. . -Fireflies- Oh my, this illustration took me way longer than I wished for, but that happens when you fall ill for a few days. Initially it was also a portrait format (now it’s landscape), because I wanted the sky to be the focal point. But then I kept adding more and more animals and the fireflies, which destroyed the composition. -Thorns- I needed a bit of a break from digital painting, so I switched to watercolour. I used a lightboard to transfer the sketch onto this beautiful hand-made watercolour paper. I drew the outlines with a colour pencil and added the shadows with water soluble pencils. This technique was kind of a breakthrough for me. I used to struggle a lot with the first layers of my paintings, because I wasn’t confident enough to add the shadows quickly (if you fiddle around for too long you get nasty edges). But by using colour pencils, I had all the time in the world to add my shadows 😌 I also did a colour study in Procreate before I started painting. . I’m refining the painting I posted a bit more; this is a detail shot of some bushes I added. I’m so motivated since the workshop and I would like to increase the level of detail in my paintings. In this illustration I’ve used a lot of techniques I learned during a workshop with @loisvb which I organised. I tried to improve my colours, depth and details and I think I’ve done quite well :) Fun fact: I painted most of the environment with my left/weak hand because rendering is so straining and I don’t want to ruin my hand (again).
