My son has a dream to follow in his great grandfather’s footsteps and is currently taking the education needed to realise this dream. Recently I was lucky to find a lot of my grandfather’s old drawings in his old house in the Faroe Islands. Some of these drawings date back to 1949! I immediately fell in love with this one when I saw it and will for sure frame it and hang it on my wall! When I was a teenager my grandfather (on my mother’s side) knew nothing better than to take me to historical places in the Faroe Islands and tell me the old tales of the places we visited together. . One of the stories he was particularly fond of telling was that of the old ruined St. Magnus Cathedral in Kirkjubøur. . Last summer my son and I visited our beloved Faroe Islands by boat so we could bring our car. In addition, we were there for a month so we had enough time to both visit family and go sightseeing like regular tourists as we’d never really done that before! . Every time we visited my grandfather he would ask where we had been and if we had seen any churches these places. So I took it on me to try and photograph all the churches in the Faroe Islands and every place we went, we would look for the local church before we moved on. . During the time we were there, I managed to get a good deal of churches in the camera, but I still have some to go yet. . I love my grandfather to pieces, and I would love for him to see my entire photo collection of Faroese churches finished, but that would take a little more time than I have, so I will settle for finishing it in his honour. . According to a Faroese legend the giants in Iceland were envious and wanted The Faroe Islands. Thus a giant and a witch went to the Faroes to try and pull the islands to Iceland. Unfortunately (for them) their many attempts failed and just broke off pieces of the cliff where they tried to attach the rope. Come morning - when the sun hit them - they turned to stone! .
