     Zhao narrowed his eyes, surveying her wounds. She was still upright, but just barely. ❛❛Here, take my hand. I’ll help you walk, ❜❜ he said, sheathing his sword. At the very least, he could help her walk to safety. Although the immediate area was clear, they were far too close to the frontlines for Zhao’s comfort.

     He pointed behind them, toward a nearby rock formation. ❛❛ We can take shelter there. It’s not too far, but let me know if I move too fast, okay? ❜❜

“Tales?” The tiger questioned, tilting his head slightly before it dawned on him. “Oh please tell me my childhood was not mentioned.”

It was a genuine concern for him. Many in Wu had heard about him beheading a few pirates when he was only young. Hopefully it had not spread that far.

“No. That was not my plan. Originally, I just came out to collect somethings for my daughter. But I might as well take you where you need to go.”

     Sensing a bit of distress from Sun Jian, Zhao raised his hands and tried to correct his mistake—though he was not entirely sure what his mistake was. ❛❛ Oh! No, no, nothing of that sort. I have heard you are quite brave in battle, ❜❜ he explained. ❛❛ I don’t know anything about your childhood. ❜❜

      ❛❛ But is that really okay? ❜❜ he asked, tilting his head. ❛❛ I mean, since you’re out doing something else. I don’t know how far the castle is from here. ❜❜

She coughed. As this took her by surprise. Stared at him a bit wary but she doesn’t mind at all. Slowly eating.

     The coalition was struggling against Orochi’s forces. Zhao could only offer support where he could, to prevent as many casualties as possible.

     Without pausing, he lifted his sword and rushed at the demons. He was a bit late to assist, but after a brief rally with the demons, he was able to defeat them.

     Sima Zhao repeated the same moves again—and again, until he grew frustrated and, frankly, exhausted. As the strong sun rose overhead, he unceremoniously collapsed on his back in the middle of the training ground. ❛❛ Ah, this is so bothersome! ❜❜

     He was ready to return home. Battling demons and mystics was not his idea of a good time.

      ❛❛ Hey, you over there! ❜❜ he called, directing his voice to an auburn-haired male nearby. Although he tried to raise his voice, it was rather weak—he needed some water. ❛❛ Do you have a canteen? ❜❜

“Okay then…should be this way if memory serves me correct” Astral said as she lead the male to the restaurant. It was a cozy little place and not too busy. Brilliant. She was still hoping that the male was still following her though. It was easy to get lost in somewhere as big as Luoyang,

“Ah, I’m known as Astral. Though my actual name I can’t exactly remember to be honest. In fact theres so much…I don’t remember, like where I came from” She tried to explain in as best she could, hoping he would understand,

     However, as he settled in his seat, Zhao shifted a bit. He was not very good in these kinds of situations—not like his brother was.

      ❛❛ So you really don’t remember of anything, then? I guess since you don’t know your actual name, you don’t even know who your family is? ❜❜ Then, realizing just how intrusive his question was, he quickly corrected himself. ❛❛ Ah! You don’t have to answer that if you don’t want to. ❜❜

Smirking, the old man tapped his foot as he listened to what the other had to say. ‘Dread’? Were tigers this much of a problem? It came as a rather amusing thought to him.

“Oh good you are.” He clapped his hands together, rather glad he didnt get it wrong for once.

“Me? I am Sun Jian. Pleasure to meet you Lord Sima Zhao.”

      ❛❛ Sun Jian? Really? ❜❜ He forgot himself and asked the question in full voice, attracting the attention of others nearby.

      ❛❛ I mean—It’s an honor. ❜❜ He corrected himself and bowed, showing his respect. ❛❛ I have heard many tales about you in Wei. I was not expecting to meet you so suddenly here.❜❜

     He peaked up from his bow. ❛❛ I, uh… Don’t suppose you’re here to show me the way? ❜❜

“There a show in town and a bigger garden. Fishing spot, the temple, and the. The wild forest is filled with the giant panda. ” he answered. Liu Bei gave him some suggestions, the place was big. And he was happy to show him around.

     Zhao’s eyes widened a bit. He had no idea that Chengdu was so big!

     Zhao ate in silence for a time after that. It seemed incredibly profound to someone as noncommittal as Zhao—to live a difficult life for something like love.

     Still, he tilted his head and peered at her clothes. They were not clothes of Nanman or Xianbei—at least, he did not think they were. Admittedly, he did not know much about the lands outside of China.

     Genuinely curious, he asked, ❛❛ What culture is that? Ah, I’m just wondering. They look nice. But if you need to change out of them, I can help you get home without being spotted. ❜❜

“Of course it is safe. It is rare that tigers come into the city. But if they do they are dealt with.” Jian chuckled. Since he had lived there for a long amount of time the tigers where a normal occurrence, but it appeared the other male was not expecting it.

“So I must ask. Pardon the question. Are you the envoy that I was informed of?”

      ❛❛ Oh! I dread to think what this place could be like with tigers around, ❜❜ he said, perhaps too eagerly; he hoped his voice did not betray the infinite relief he felt.

     Then, with an awkward bow of his shoulders, he reached up and scratched his cheek. ❛❛ Ah, yes, the name’s Sima Zhao. I came here as an envoy of Wei. And you are…? ❜❜

“Thank you.” Liu Bei smiled as he walked over and sat down on the fountain. “I’m glad that you like it. This is the perfect place.” he hummed a little tune, lightly touched the water. “Anything else you want to do here?”

     Zhao nodded in enthusiastic agreement. ❛❛ I would be here every day if I lived in Chengdu. ❜❜

     As he surveyed the park, he took a moment to appreciate the sights and the sound of music playing. ❛❛ What other places can we visit? ❜❜

The servants brought the food to the table. Meat buns and rice, etc. She thanked the servants for the meal. Smiling.

“I handle the half of the stuff here. While he goes chasing after him or planning his next conquest. I’m used to the workload here. Nothing too complicated for me to handle. ” she began to eat her food calmly and very lady like.

     Zhao immediately directed himself to the meat buns, a common delicacy within the Sima household. He took an eager bite, savoring the taste.

     ❛❛ I guess that doesn’t sound too bad. But doesn’t it get lonely on your own? Since his Imperial Highness is so busy. ❜❜

     After all, he knew a thing or two about living with men of high ambition.

Liu Shan rolled his eyes in humour and lightly elbowed Sima Zhao. “Do whatever we please, honestly Sima Zhao, you might give a man the wrong impression.” Despite Sima Zhao’s odd choice of words, Liu Shan was still interested. “You ask me what I think, of course I will come! The sooner the better.”

Liu Shan was never the teasing type but he had to admit, it was fun to do with Sima Zhao. It was almost like there were no repercussions. A mischievous smirk played on his lips as Liu Shan regarded the man before him. “If you really want me to do whatever you please then perhaps try use some better lines? The subtle approach does not suit you.”

     He laughed, swatting Liu Shan’s arm away in good humor. ❛❛ You know what I mean, ❜❜ he said, not particularly caring how something might sound to someone else. That was precisely why Liu Shan’s presence was so refreshing. Zhao was tired of constantly watching his tongue, of being on his best behavior. With Liu Shan, he could forget all of that stuff and take it easy.

      ❛❛ But we can really do anything! ❜❜ He began counting off on his fingers. ❛❛ There’s a great spot for fishing nearby, and some good hunting. I also have a barrel of wine there. It will be perfect to lay back and take a nap or do some horseback riding… What do you think? Sounds like fun, right? ❜❜
