// Welcome to Subnautica! Simon has escaped the blood moon and has found himself stuck on the planet 4546b and is doing his best to survive on a planet composed almost entirely of water. And while there's a small collection of islands in which Simon does have a base, he generally lives in the ocean, aided by technology created by Alterra that was left behind years ago.
The ocean sucks.
There's always creatures that want to either eat Simon or bite him.
The ocean is full of terrifying leviathans and an even scarier depth that Simon has yet to fully explore.
Come join him on his adventures and meet his only true, faithful companion, a cuddlefish by the name of Calvin Jr.!
The rules are pretty simple...
This is both an ask blog as well as a normal rp blog where you can have rp threads.
Be courteous with the asks. While I am not a minor, inappropriate asks will simply be ignored.
As far as magic anons go, I don't do them. This applies to things like changing Simon into things or giving him physical ailments. Basically, anything that would be considered godmodding in a normal rp situation is not okay.
Don't hurt Calvin Jr. His HP is higher than that of all the leviathans so just leave him alone. Plus Simon will be sad.
This rp is based off of Let's Play Subnautica with Markiplier, which if you haven't seen it I HIGHLY recommend it because it's a lot of fun and unexpectedly endearing.
I also play Subnautica so pretty much every single screenshot you see from the game is from my playthrough unless you see Markiplier up in the corner there. Please note that I only play Subnautica on my Switch as I don't have a pc capable of handling gaming.
It should be noted that I am a cult survivor. I was born into a death cult and raised into my teens as part of it until I finally escaped from it. It's impossible for me to not put my emotions over it into Simon seeing how the main reason I have this blog, that I have this verse, is my desire to see him living outside of the cult's reach. Antitheism will not be tolerated at all unless it is within the parameters of your character's mannerisms. But understand that neither myself nor Simon will tolerate it at all.
I absolutely support and welcome various fandoms as well as ocs!
This is a sideblog so if you're an rp blog and I follow you back it's coming from my main rp blog @thisisourstar
"I did make it, but I admit it doesn't look like the pattern."
"Well I think it's perfect," Simon replied as he looked it over again. "I don't know about the pattern but I love it. Plus you made it so it holds more love."
He pulled Paultin over to him and hugged him tight. "This means a lot to me. Thank you. You do good work."
"We don't have to babe, but that's up to you. Not like we can always control when that desire happens. Whatever makes you happy though, okay?" Paultin promised, kissing him back before he watched him stand in the doorway.
Dark hues trailed over his lover, and he wondered how he'd gotten so lucky to be able to bring Simon here. Home with him. His boyfriend was accepting not only of what he was, and what he'd done, but his family. The things he'd been through. That he had a son.....
"I'll be glad to be there tonight, and I'll be even happier that you're gonna be there with me. I can only hope you'll enjoy the show."
Simon chuckled. "That's true too. Like right now, I know I still want you but I also want you rested for your show. You deserve it too. It's your day."
But then he gave a sly little smile and stretched his body, showing it off for his boyfriend. "But if after the show you're up to it...this body... it's yours." Then he gave Paultin a soft smile. "Even if all you want to do is to just sleep."
He nodded. "I know I will. Your singing always makes me feel better when I'm sad or scared. I can only imagine how your fans are going to feel seeing you and hearing you again. Speaking of which... you should rest, and I'll go help, as I had promised before. Sleep well, Paultin. Remember, I love you very much and you, you're going to be amazing tonight."
"He did...," Paultin muttered, swallowing thickly. The room suddenly felt heavy, but this was something that needed to be told. Needed to be explained. He couldn't run from it like he did so many conversations.
"It is my story, but that was my papa. Not my Babbo. Though Babbo was just as welcoming. They both loved me like their own. In fact, until I went back to Barovia, I had no memory of this. I thought I was theirs. But when I went back, my memories were magically brought back to me. I did get to see my sister. She lives with us now, but....my birth parents died that night. It .... Really it's okay. I uh.... I don't really remember much about them."
Awful was putting it mildly. It was tragic and horrific to imagine.
"You've been through so much pain, Paultin. You've been separated from your home, you lost your birth parents... you've been under an evil captor and killed, repeatedly..."
It hardly seemed real now, all of this.
"But you're still here. Alive. Breathing. And you bring so much joy and happiness to those who meet you. You really are amazing."
Paultin reached out, pulling Simon closer again gently as he tangled their fingers.
"Hey.....it's okay. I uh.... You have to understand the place I was stuck in, that world is very very different than this one. Death was a common enough occurrence that there are many different types of magic that ward against it and can revive people. It's dangerous. Dragons, ogres, giants. Oh don't get me started on the Beholders. I was turned to ash once by one of those. That took a VERY intensive spell to bring me back. That could only be done by a priest. But.....we were adventurers. We knew death was a possibility."
"So... worse than being in Subnautica?" Simon asked, looking at Paultin. The moment he saw him though, the image of some monster thing reducing his boyfriend to nothing but ash frightened him and he inhaled sharply as though he had been physically hurt.
"You're not going to do that again are you?" Simon asked. "Because fuck Beholders and ogres and dragons... and and..."
He no longer wanted to sleep outside. For some unexplainable reason Simon was feeling frantic as though danger was right here, lurking in the shadows and waiting to pounce on them... on Paultin... and steal his life away. Simon gazed at him.
"Your life has so much meaning," he said weakly. "You deserve so much happiness and goodness in your life, Paultin."
There was no use in trying to sleep in the water that night. Hell, Simon wasn't even sure he could fall asleep now. If he shut his eyes for even a moment... what would close its jaws around Paultin?
"The ring itself is actually just a steel alloy, but there is gold in it too," he assured, pleased to see it fit before he rose a brow, listening to Simon.
"Hey, don't feel bad. I got it for you because it made me think of you and I wanted to get you something special. Not because I expected something in return, okay? That's not how relationships work, romantic or otherwise. It shouldn't be transactional."
"I know it's not but I want to be able to give you gifts as well that isn't just, equipment to survive in Subnautica. Plus, I love being able to give you things and show you how much I love you. If I could, I would try and make something that could protect you from your enemies."
Simon touched the pendant again. He almost never took it off. "You do so much to protect me and show me that you love me. I do enough to show you how much I care, don't I? Because you mean everything to me. You are my world. I would honestly stay with you in your world because you make me this happy."
Grace nods, standing up after making one last-ditch effort of fiddling with the radio. “Alright, let’s do that. If that doesn’t work we can go to the island,” he says with perhaps a bit too much confidence — he still hardly knows where he’s at. But he’ll do anything to get in contact with Rocky
He listens as the scanner reads out information on Simon and the dragon plush, which he had set down on the desk. He bites his lip and nods, holding his arms open at his sides. “Alright, go ahead.”
In truth he really, really didn't want to go to the island. Despite having a base there, two actually, he hated it there. The path to the two bases on the top of the mountain there was long and there really wasn't much to see except a lot of rust and danger.
Simon took the scanner and moved it across Grace until it had beeped to show that it was finished. It read: "Hydration level: 30%. Seek caloric intake. Stress level: critical. Please reduce stress."
"Easier said than done..." Simon muttered. He looked to Grace and said gently, "Look, I know it's hard right now because you're scared and you're worried you're going to be trapped here forever. But you won't be. One way or another, you'll get back home."
Simon found some water and a few snacks to give Grace as well as a blanket. "We just need to have a moment to breathe, okay? Tell me about yourself?"
"Hey.....hey no. You run, and get out of here if something happens to me. Go get Strix, or Jazz. They can help," he assured, leaning into his boyfriend's touch.
"Don't go doing anything stupid, okay? I promise you, I'll be okay one way or the other, but you? I need you alive to be able to greet me if I need to be brought back, okay?"
Was he totally sure he could be brought back if he died? No. There was always a chance that his luck would run out. He wasn't about to admit that out loud right now though. What they needed was a plan.
The worst thing was, Simon could almost instantly imagine that kind of scenario. A fight, something awful happening and his beloved being struck down, unable to get up, unable to awaken from death's grasp. Simon shivered and almost recoiled from Paultin as tears stung his eyes again.
Somehow he managed a weak, "I, I will go for help." He didn't want to say that he'd run. He would never want to leave Paultin behind. Simon gazed at his boyfriend and felt his heart break again. "I, I love you..."
The question managed to snap Simon out of his fears as he realized that there was still something he could do. Simon went and pulled out his PDA and showed off his base.
"This is Victory, deep down below Subnautica. It's guarded on all two entrances by sea dragons, the biggest being The Acheron. He roars a lot, but he won't hurt the base. I think he sort of guards it now. In order to get there you have to go down into the Lost River and there's only two entrances in all three paths of the Lost River that get you to the inactive lava zone. And from there, just two entrances to the Lava Lakes. This area is guarded by leviathans. There's toxic poison down there. There's actual monsters there. And if you can survive those, you have to survive not getting lost. Even if we just stayed in the Lost River we'd be safe."
When morning came, Simon let Mark sleep in and he made his way outside where he sat at the edge of the platform with his long tail in the water. Mariner rest alongside the platform with his twin dorsal fins sticking out of the water, which Simon massaged lightly. He really did love it here.
[What was the right way to respond to that? He looked... sad. Longingly towards the ocean. Did he feel a need to transform? Ava wasnt a mutation expert but they had been on land for a while.]
"I'm sorry to hear that."
[Experiments without questions. If the facility had just talked to her how different would things have turned out?]
[She was silent for a while longer.]
"I can handle myself for a bit if you need to stretch your legs. Need to set up the spot you made for me regardless- I promise not to experiment on you or any of your friends without getting permissions."
[She still held the PDA. It clearly had a scanner. Maybe she could scan Simons transformation process and learn something? At least she had a lot of entries to read through. If Simon allowed it of course.]
Hope filled Simon as he looked to Ava, surprised that she had suggested this. Maybe he thought that she would take control of the situation just as she had been in charge back when he was in prison. Not that he needed permission to go swimming, but knowing that she was okay on her own without him being there gave him some relief.
"Well, keep an eye out over beyond that platform... I want to show you one of my friends."
Simon all but rushed out of the modular room and paused only for a moment at the edge of the platform before jumping from it. The transformation was instantaneous and after disappearing below the surface, Simon breached, gave a little spin, before crashing down on the water. Moments later a loud roar was heard and a young reaper leviathan stuck its head out of the water and looked right at Ava.
Ah, okay, so this man was used to weird shit like portals. That worked out well for Jade, less shit she had to try and hide or talk around. And being told this information implied he wasn't the only one on the planet? Perfect, she had options. Not entirely sure what all they were, of course, but even that little bit of knowledge made her feel better.
"Mm, right," she replied to his words, just to indicate she was listening. Jade's eyes scanned the horizon once again before she followed him in, tension in her shoulders releasing as the gun was put away. She didn't hear any other heartbeats in the building at the moment, so he was likely alone here right now...
When he gives her his name, she nods, paying closer attention to the man. The mutant gives him a solid once over, trying to ignore the way his clothes fell on his chest, instead noting his musculature and height. "Mm. Alright... So uh. I'm not the first? Got it. I uh... Sorry, hold on, what exactly is this place even? I've... Never seen anywhere quite like it."
Jade opts to not answer his question, keeping her thoughts and feelings to herself. Hell, it might not even be possible to go back home, considering she's pretty sure it was one of the mutants she was fighting that threw her here but... fuck. Might be safer for her here. Even if she has to escape from this stranger.
Shock wasn't uncommon for those who managed to step through or fall through one of the many portals here in Subnautica so Simon didn't mind too much when some of his questions went ignored. However, he would pay close attention to her just to make sure Jade was going to be all right. Somehow she looked tough enough.
"This is Planet 4546b or Subnautica. Where you're at is a crater within an ecological dead zone that was created over a thousand years ago. I'm not quite sure if the dead zone was because of the virus or if it just existed to a degree before... at any rate, life is flourishing here but it's also dangerous. Really really dangerous."
Simon gestured around the interior. "What you see here is my attempt at building up my above water outpost to try and turn it into a base, outside of a few outposts on the two islands, all of my bases are underwater and this place does get deep. Here we're just on the edge of the Safe Shallows heading towards the grassy plateau. It's pretty safe here as the only leviathans that roam here are the reefbacks and of course, the two reapers."
He led her through the base towards another room which looked simple with a single bed, a few plants, and a 280 degree view of the ocean, which was mostly obscured by a large space ship downed in the water half a mile away.
"You can rest here. I like keeping rooms open for any passing ships that come through here."
Simon swam over to his two children, Calvin and Aubrey. He didn't even have to reach out for them as they already had swum into his arms and nuzzled against his chest. Calvin wrapped two of his tentacles around Simon's arm and trilled lightly.
"I love you both so much," Simon whispered before kissing them lightly on the head.
He gave them scritches followed by playful tickles, which sent both cuddlefish into laughter and little swirls. Aubrey danced above Simon's head and fussed with his hair while Calvin attached himself to Simon's tail and was sent for a few quick thrashes before being vaulted off. Calvin laughed and swam right back to his dad where both he and his sibling were cuddled once more.
There was a reason why they were named "cuddlefish" after all.
