not long. last year i decided i wanted to try out veganism to see if it was something i could sustain. I thought it would be too difficult and too expensive for me to keep up with. I viewed it as a fad diet i’d try out and flake out on a few weeks in. On and off in 2015 I tried out a bunch of different vegan diets 80/10/10, raw till 4, completely raw, starch solution, junk food vegan, hclf… There were also times throughout the year i cheated and didn’t eat vegan, usually in social situations. Going out to lunch with coworkers, or holiday parties i’d use the excuse it was “a special occasion” and i didn’t want to “inconvinence” anyone. However, towards the end of the year i began to realize i felt better when I wasn’t eating animal products. I also realized it wasn’t very expensive, it was actually pretty much the same i’ve always spent on groceries. The research I was doing throughout the year also helped me shift my thinking. I started to focus more on the animals and the environment rather than the diet. In December I decided I wanted to live a vegan lifestyle. I got through my birthday, Hanukkah work parties, christmas and new years completely vegan. In January I adopted a dog, he’s been vegan since the day I brought him home. By Februrary I had given up my uggs, down jacket, and leather bags. I’m still working on filtering out my non vegan makeup and building a cruelty free collection. I still don’t eat a specific diet, I try my best to eat whole food hclf but i’ll be honest there have been weeks where every dinner has come out of a gardein bag. What’s important to me now that I live cruelty free and do what I believe is best for the environment and my health. I still have a lot of research to do and i’m constantly learning more about veganism and the food industry.
