On track for this to be my last day of assignment-writing for this semester. I’m fueling up on coffee (about to make cup #2) and mango mochi and planning to keep my eyes fixed firmly on the screens.

A brand new study corner full of sun lights✨
you want me to write an introduction??? AND a conclusion??? After all the body paragraphs I just wrote???
like cmon, nobody has to be the best in their class or to have a library which is saturated with classical literature or to be able to write outstanding poems in order to be allowed to belong to the dark/light/grey academia community.
This typicality is so annoying, the unrealistic aesthetic (which is problematic to me for its dominating symbolism) makes a lot of d.a/l.a/g.a lovers feel like they can't belong in this community just because they don't own classical writing inks.
We need to see more d.a studyblrs who use their tablets, read books in the pdf format, use ballpoint pens no matter what brand to they come from, who keep it aesthetic and realistic.
Anyway, you can agree or disagree, at the end of the day, I'm just stating an opinion. :)

Do you listen to music while revising study material?
always! i don’t like silence, so i always have some music or a tv show on for background noise while i study
I love flipping through this little Muji notepad because I always remember what drama scene I was watching when I heard each word lol
I need to transfer these words to Anki though so I can actually learn them. Anki stresses me out whenever I start forgetting words 😥

breaking news: local studyblr recluse is sighted and finally posts some pics two weeks into spring quarter. a lot has happened over the last 2 ½ weeks…i turned 21, got hired for a full-time summer position, livened up my hair with a teal ombre, spent a weekend with my dad in new mexico, missed 2 ½ days of class cause i got hella sick and unexplainably anxious yikes, bounced back and got all my stuff turned in on time, and now i’m slowly easing myself back into bullet journaling using this super thin journal with just enough pages for my 10-week quarter! hope y’all are living your best lives and getting those grades, making that money, and/or feeling all of the love~
hey carol! my best friend and I are making care packages for each other and I was wondering if u had any ideas for things to put in? I already have stuff like lush bath bombs, some eyeshadow/lipgloss, pressed flowers and tea but any other ideas would b very helpful 🥰🌸
hello!! this is so wholesome omg i love it!! this is truly friendship goals uwuwuwu i love what you’ve got so far (and i’m sure they will too) ✨ here are a few more suggestions:
• a handwritten letter (+ maybe some stickers!)
• her fave snacks!! or alternatively, some snacks that you like that you want them to try out 🥰
• handwritten notes (maybe extracts from your fave book, a poem that reminds you of them/one that you like or think they will like)
• a book!!
• face masks
• baked goods!! not sure if they’ll keep, but if not you could try out those “cookie/hot chocolate in a jar” things - i always them on pinterest and they look like cool gifts
all my respect today goes to the boy who got arrested bc he smashed an egg on the australian senator who blamed the christchurch shootings on “muslim immigration to new zealand.” egg your local shitty politician today for solidarity with egg boy aka the only modern hero who matters
things I wish i would have known my first year of University
1) Make an outline for your papers. it doesn’t have to be detailed but having one will help you keep on track when writing. it will only take you a few minutes to brainstorm one.
2) always carry a spare charger and a backup battery for your phone. honestly, our phones are an extension of us now, so nothing is scarier than when it dies halfway through your class. a backup battery and a charger are always handy.
3) set smaller deadlines and stick to them. you might flounder if you decide to have your 2000 word essay all done and edited for March 14. but you might have an easier time deciding to have 500 words written by March 8, 1000 words by March 10, 1500 words by March 11, 2000 words by March 13, and to edit it on the 14th. these smaller deadlines have really helped me to get my work done and to not to stress about deadlines. splitting up my assignments into smaller chunks makes it more manageable.
4) email your professors if you have questions. or go to their office when they’re in. don’t sit there in confused silence, it won’t help.
5) Do practise Self-care and take breaks. these don’t always have to be full days off with a spa day. it can be having a bubble bath after studying for hours, or watching a movie that makes you laugh after finishing an essay. or just making sure you're eating healthy and drinking water.
6) do put important dates in your calendar. weather its a psychical calendar, or one on your phone/ computer. I have all my major dates on my computer laptop, it helps when I am studying and wondering when I have an exam or need to remember when to hand in a paper.
7) always have a highlighter, a pencil, a pen, and spare paper. you never know when you’re going to have a pop quiz or an activity in class.
8) reach out to friends and spend time with them/ your family. people tend to isolate themselves during exam/paper/midterm season. while you definitely need to study, you also need to have social connections. make a study date at your library or even get a coffee with a friend.
Study Pack #2
by Eintsein
It’s a new year, and whether you’re looking to organize your current study process, or try out something more productive, this study pack can help you out. These are some of the methods I use to help myself study more effectively, and I’ve decided to make some printables out of them so that you can use them too!
In this study pack:
Day Tracker: to schedule your day or keep track of how you use your time.
Past Paper Tracker: to track all the past papers you’re practicing.
Past Paper Summary: to summarize the trends in your past papers so you can plan your studying accordingly.
Topic Tracker: to track the topics that appear in the past papers.
Syllabus Tracker: to help you know where you currently are in your syllabus: what’s been done and what’s left to do, along with how well you know the material
Click here to download! (link to study drive)
Hope these help, and don’t forget to tag me with #eintsein when you use them - I’d love to see them in action! And if you have any questions, drop me an ask/message. Have an awesome day :)
P.S. Examples of how to use some of these printables are in the gifs above, but of course, you’re free to use them in whatever method works best for you. For example, for the topic tracker, instead of distinguishing between the number of marks for the question, you could keep track of how many marks you’ve received for that topic (i.e. 100% means you get full marks for every single question of that topic).
[11.30.18] 94/100 days of productivity
I can’t believe that this is the last day of November! I only have a week of class left before finals.
Also, thank you to everyone who subscribed to my Youtube channel - I just hit 1,000 views on my first ever video!

For applying to the US for college, how did you work out stuff like GPA, transcripts, SAT/ACT and sending your A level (I presume) marks instead of AP and IB? Sorry for sounding so confused. It's hard trying to correlate the 2 systems of education.
Don’t worry! I was super confused too when I first looked into it.
GPA you don’t need to worry about because if you don’t have one it doesn’t matter.
Your transcripts are just your school reports so the teacher that you put down as your “counselor” - I used my head of sixth form - will send all of those for you.
I did the SAT and if you go to collegeboard.org, there is a list of the dates for international SAT tests and there’s test centres all over the country so there will probably be one near you. I don’t know much about the ACT though, sorry.
For A Level stuff, in the CommonApp there are two sections where you put in A Level info. The first is in the education section, under ‘Current or Most Recent Year Courses’. This is where you put what courses you take, so for mine I wrote that I did 3 course, that they were ‘A Level [insert subject]’, and that they were full year courses. The second place you talk about a levels is under testing. They ask international students if they take standard/national examinations and if you take a levels, you’d tick yes. In the same section, it asks if you’ve taken any leaving exams and unless you’ve taken any a levels early, the answer to this is no. Your predicted grades will be on your transcripts that the teacher sends in.
I hope this makes sense and pls message me again if you have any more questions!
Things I learned during my first weekend at college
Your parents will hover like crazy and try to help you unpack when you move in. They mean well, but if you’re overwhelmed don’t be afraid to kick them out for a bit.
Don’t ask your RA what bars to hit up in town (like one girl from my floor actually did)
Check your e-mail five times a day, your professors might be sending out syllabi or other helpful/important stuff ahead of time.
You will cry at least once while buying textbooks from the campus bookstore that you couldn’t find used on Chegg (sidenote: use Chegg)
Your dining hall probably has pizza available for every meal. Don’t eat pizza for every meal.
Even if you hated salads your entire life, you will learn to love them so that, you know, you don’t eat pizza for every meal.
Check your dining hall hours online. Some of them close between meals.
Leave your door open or do random Internet browsing in the floor lounge if you want to meet more people.
At least one of your posters will constantly fall down no matter how many 3M command strips you use.
A lot of campus events are lame. A lot of them are not. Go to as many of them as you can anyways to meet more people.
If you need time to yourself, take it. You’ll make friends eventually without having to hang out with them constantly.
Don’t expect to become BFFs with everyone you meet, and don’t expect to become best friends over your first weekend.
If you’re standing if a long period of time, bend/relax your knees every so often. If you keep them locked, you might trigger a nerve in your body that causes you to pass out (this may or may not have happened to me on my second day, oops)
Drink water.
Carry an umbrella if there is the slightest chance of rain. Carry one even if there isn’t, just in case.
Carry a sweater or hoodie always.
Pokemon Go is lit on college campuses; every single building is a gym or pokestop and there are lures everywhere. Plus, your eggs hatch in no time because you’re walking everywhere.
It’s okay to eat alone in a dining hall; either no one will care or someone will sit at your table and strike up a conversation.
If you really, really don’t want to eat alone, literally just knock on someone’s door in your hall. If they don’t want to go with you, try someone else. Chances are, someone else might be hungry, too or at least willing to walk over with you.
Come up with a roommate agreement. Decide when you’re cleaning, sharing policy, guest policy, light and noise preferences, etc.
If there is a massive involvement fair on campus, research some clubs online so you know what to look for. Otherwise you’ll be overwhelmed in two seconds.
Join a group chat with people on your floor or in the same area of study as you, it’s super helpful for general information.
Ask everyone you talk to to add you on Snapchat.
Simple things like taking out the trash or doing laundry will suddenly feel very overwhelming.
You learn a lot of stuff from being in college for only three days and not even taking any classes.
here’s the truth about textbooks
i keep seeing posts out there saying that you need to read the textbook to succeed in class. NO. you do not need to read the textbook. at least not for many, if not most, of your classes. first of all, it’s impractical. profs can assign up to 2-3 a week, and if you’re taking around 4-5 classes, that’s a WHOLE LOT of reading. if you have time to do so, go ahead, but a lot of students don’t have that much time on their hands. so i’m suggesting that you DON’T need to read every single chapter your prof assigns. what you DO need to do is to get smarter at selecting what and when to read, as well as scanning the text effectively.
when TO read the textbook
when your profs tell you that they will not be teaching from the textbook but that the exams will cover material and/or questions from the textbook
when the material is difficult, tricky, or lengthy and you need clarification, further explanation, or examples
when you miss a class
when you HAVE TIME to prepare for lectures in advance
when you feel that you actually learn and retain information better by reading the textbook
when NOT to read the textbook
when your profs teach from the textbook pretty much line by line
when your profs tell you that they will not be assessing you based on information from the text, but from their lectures
a strong implication of this is if your profs require lecture attendance
when you feel that reading the textbook does not help you learn or retain information
when you are constantly confused by the textbook (esp when it comes to calculation-based stem classes like math or cs)
when you have absolutely no time whatsoever to read pages after pages of bad academic puns
what you can do INSTEAD of reading the textbook
look at the course syllabus/schedule to see what you will learn in lecture. have an idea of what material you’ll be covering, then do the following steps.
check the course website/resources and ask yourself: what do you have to work with? are there lecture slides? lecture notes from previous semesters? online links or readings?
if one of the above exists, read the lecture slides/notes. they are usually much less text-intensive and get straight to the point. you can zip through them pretty quickly. you will at least have a basic understanding of the material that will be introduced in class.
google terms and concepts that you don’t understand from just reading the lecture slides. again, the idea is to get you to have a basic understanding of the material and not become an expert. this will help you avoid getting lost during the lecture.
if you’re still a little confused, read selected sections from the textbook that deal with the topic you need more help with. please don’t read the entire thing.
if there are no lecture slides or external resources to help you out, scan the textbook effectively.
how to SCAN textbooks effectively
read the chapter title and section headings
read the highlighted, bolded, or italicized terms and concepts, as well as their respective definitions in the content itself, the margins, and/or the index at the back
google the terms and concepts if you’re still confused
examine any charts, graphs, or flowcharts
examples and example questions can be helpful, so pay attention to those
at the end of each chapter there should be a brief summary or main idea section. read those and do the practical problems if possible.
