Semiotics

The visual board is a composition which is depicting different meanings and symbols of lion. The above composition has a positive and negative balance in it. On the negative space multiple symbols of lion has been arranged. The lion symbolizes strength, bravery, wisdom, justice, self confidence and leadership.

Form Generation

Form generation as the name suggests refers to generating various kinds of forms from the motives that we develop in the design process.It involves use either gateway sheets or develop forms through CAD utilizing Adobe Illustrator /Coral Draw.

The idea is to build an understanding of generating new forms but in 2 dimension so that you are able to convey your ideas and communicate them on paper/digital formats.

Color Theory

Learning and knowing about colors has always been on the top of my favorite to-do -list. I was very excited when i came to know about this exercise, wherein we learnt how color pallet is made giving a sense of  a particular place. In this activity , we were asked to collect 10 pictures of the given places and then making a color pallet of that place as well by finding the most prominent colors in all the pictures.This assignment truly helped me to change my perspective towards colors and i even learnt to make beautiful color pallets. 

In the following pictures, first i attached the photographs of different places  lets say, dharavi and then those 5 prominent colors which i found in all other pictures. so by seeing the color pallet , i can relate these colors with Dharavi very well, and so on the same process is repeated with each place.

Isn’t this fun? Wearing a tangram as a dress was truly amazing! This activity is too an addition of the previous one only, wherein we understood that it is not necessary that things we plan on a 2d surface gives exactly the same out come when made on 3d surface. There are various aspects that varies while we create things on 3d surface such as the flow, stability, material etc.

Adding more to EOD’s &POD’s

Elements and Principles of design play such an important role that even till now we are learning them in a very detailed manner. This activity is an addition to the previous one only, there we talked about the POD’S like balance , symmetry and proportion. If we go in details, then there are 3 types of balance! and they are :- 

1) SYMMETRICAL BALANCE :   Balance that is achieved by arranging elements on either side of the center of a composition in an equally weighted manner.

2) ASYMMETRICAL BALANCE :  In asymmetrical balance, the two sides are not identical, but differ from one another. However, the elements are arranged so that there is a sense of balance.

3) RADIAL BALANCE : Radial balance is any type of balance based on a circle with its design extending. from center.

Another new learning :)

Are you familiar with the word tangram? If not, then lemme explain you a bit about it. Tangram is a Chinese geometrical puzzle consisting of a square cut into seven pieces which can be arranged to make various other shapes. in this particular assignment we were supposed to arrange these shapes such that the end result comes out in the form of a silhouette, keeping 3 rules of tangram in mind : 1)All the shapes should be used. 2) Edge of each tangram should touch each other at some point. 3) There should not be repetition of shapes.

In this exercise we tried to learn the principle of design called Proportion and Balance in a new way. The task was also to handle the different sizes of these tangrams in such a way that it looks balanced and proportionate.

Rorschach Explorations...

A new day with new task which was quite interesting, playing with colors has always been my favorite hobby and this is what we did. Rorschachs are the organic shapes formed by using multiple colors of our own choice. These shapes are actually formed folding the paper into half and pressing the colors dropped randomly in it. These shapes were now tried to convert into silhouettes on the croqui. Basically, this activity made us understand about the elements of design like colors and textures, and principle of design like balance and symmetry.

What single,double,triple lines result into ?

Double lines

Triple line 

Lines are considered to the most essential element in the field of design.A line is an identifiable path created by a point moving in space. It is one-dimensional and can vary in width, direction, and length. There are various types of a line for instance, straight, curvy,zig-zag,curled and we could use any of these,besides this if needed, thickness /thinness could be changed accordingly. Basically, in this particular activity, we were to arrange all kinds of lines in such a way that it looks proportionate and balanced (the two principles of design).

Dots n more...

Again here with a new assignment of dots.Quite similar to the previous one,  but the only difference is that now we have to do it with 2 dots Although the learning is same but arranging the 2 dots in such a way that it shows exact proportion and balance is a big deal.! In this exercise by using two dots we have somewhere also used the principle of repetition along with proportion and balance.

More with Dots

A single dot can do wonders! This exercise was to make us understand about magic that a dot can do. Here, we were supposed to use a single dot (which is an element of design) on the dress in such a way that is creates proper balance and proportion which are again very important Principles of Design.Although these design we might have seen on many dresses but have not ever noticed them.This exercise also plays around Negative Positive which is a very crucial part of design.

Dot is considered to be the most important Element of Design.This was the first element that we studied in which developing patterns was the final outcome.The patterns were to be made by collecting different items representing dots. The learning behind this exercise was to learn the Principle of design - Repetition and developing Patterns via using those elements and principles.

Discovering a new principle !

Today was the day of learning new principle of design which is called RHYTHM. This principle basically refers to an on going flow or movement which keeps on repeating itself.

 In this particular exercise we were supposed to handle linear materials in such a way that it depicts rhythm. While doing this exercise i had no idea about the outcome but now it seems pretty interesting. Arranging the threads, ribbons etc in a rhythmic way was fun!
