Yesterday several people found my posts about Winnie the Pooh (or rather... Darby, lol) and reblogging... it made me so happy aaa!
When I was a kid I was the only one watching this show (I mean, it is extremely unknown in Türkiye). It felt like this show only existed for me sometimes, lol. Even when I posted some stuff about it, it'd feel like it's just Darby and me who know about the show. You know how sometimes characters feel like friends? So seeing anyone that sees and likes my posts about the show and her makes me so happy.
Even after all these years, my biggest wish is to see her loved and back on the screens. At least here I'm hoping to connect with people who may share this sentiment with me 🥹
So yeah! I drew something real fast, hi! Hope it's nice.
Now that I'm in my summer break, I may try to be more active. Maybe make a storytime about how I collected the Turkish copies for the show.
You know what. People who like flawed characters or evil characters need to realise one thing:
Your fav. Is literally fucking evil. They did bad things. "That's the point" yes. Yes it is. They are bad. Even if they're not evil, they did bad things. You like them? Good for you, I like evil people too. But people that go "oh but you're mean to them" is so weird to me. We are discussing what's so painfully obvious. You are the delusional one.
You too, my friend, are supposed to point that very same thing out. Y'all can't even like bad characters correctly. When we say "oh [x character] bad" we don't just bash them for funsies, we are stating facts. Your blorbo is evil, that bitch did wrong things. You can't love summer without admitting it's hot as shit during summer. Is it not clicking??
Also. We don't have to like your bad fav. There. I said it. I don't have to like your flawed fav. Not everyone likes summer, because it's hot. Not everyone likes sweating. I don't like your fav because his wrong actions irritate me. I don't hate them because I'm delusional, I hate them because of facts that are literally spelled out for all us in the show, because of their own actions. You can't just come to me and say "oh you're evil to my blorbo"— babe. Your blorbo IS the evil one. Do I have to dumb it down more???
Why Vivid BAD SQUAD's Existence is Integral to Project SEKAI's Themes
Introduction
Project SEKAI is a narrative that focuses heavily on how art can be created to help others. Stemming from the VIRTUAL SINGERS who bring life to people's music in the real world and guide people towards their true feelings in SEKAI, we have those who want to resonate with others, those who want to bring hope to their fans, those who want to make the world smile, and those who want to save the people dear to them.
However, there is one unit in this game that is not like the rest.
Vivid BAD SQUAD's goals are straightforward— to surpass a legendary event and conquer the world with their music. The narrative's phrasing of their ambitious goals border on villainous— seemingly antithetical to everything Project SEKAI stands for as a story about kindness, empathy, and connection through music.
The group rarely focuses on helping others, and have little interaction with fans outside of metrics. Instead of sitting down to sort through their problems verbally, they often fight using their music instead. They don't think about how the audience will receive their feelings, caring more about if the response is a simple "good" or "bad". In addition, all four members have been described as "selfish" people.
These are only some of the differences, which brings us to a question. Why does Vivid BAD SQUAD exist, if it's conceptually so incongruent from the rest of the game?
Well, What Does Vivid BAD SQUAD's Story Tell Us?
Vivid BAD SQUAD's story, in the simplest terms possible, is a story about four teenagers doing exactly what they want to do. Kohane and Akito both struggled to figure out what it was that they wanted, while An and Touya both struggled with their resolve to pursue what they wanted. So, what is so special about this?
Let's circle back to how each member of Vivid BAD SQUAD is "selfish". Besides it being an obvious character flaw for each of them (Main Story especially), we are told in Koha5 that their egos are what make them good singers. In other words, Vivid BAD SQUAD's "selfishness" is a good thing.
This "selfishness" also refers to how the members of Vivid BAD SQUAD sing only for themselves. Thematically, this points towards a pretty poignant idea:
You don't have to create for anyone besides yourself. It's good to be selfish with your work, to do things because you like them, even if nobody else does.
And I think this message is important because every other unit is different from this. It's easy to get wrapped up in the idea that you need some kind of big reason to be an artist. That you need to pursue art in a way that contributes to society, or keeps other people happy. That your art must be transactional, an equal exchange between you and the consumer.
Of course, it's wonderful to have the feeling of wanting to help others, to spread positivity or comfort with your art. But the importance of Vivid BAD SQUAD in the context of Project SEKAI as a whole is to say that you don't have to.
It's just as good to pursue art because you have nothing else. It's just as good to pursue art because you want fame and notoriety. It's just as good to pursue art because you want to be better than someone. It's just as good to pursue art simply because you're passionate about it.
No matter how "shallow" your reasons for pursuing it may be, it doesn't matter. Your dreams matter just as much as someone with a "nobler" cause.
HEEEY SO... remember me mentioning that I bought the Akito figure online and was waiting for it to arrive?
Uhm, so about that, it blew up on my face. Türkiye no longer lets us buy toys from abroad, and in order to get them from the customs, you need to pay advisors so they can gather documents for you to finally receive the item. After paying extra tax, of course.
Naturally I got angry and didn't take the package from the customs, letting the post office return it to Japan. Because, like it'd cost me more than the figure itself.
I thought this was about it, and that I wasn't getting Akito ever. Then I went out with my friend to buy soju and on the way saw a manga store. So many Miku's on display so we went in and...
Boom, he is there. He was not only the one single pjsk figure there but he was also the last Akito.
He was way more expensive than what I paid online initially, but it was still cheaper than what I'd pay to get it from the customs. So... I asked my parents for some extra money and... bought him because I'm spoiled and irresponsible with my money, okay? Big deal!
So yeah, now I have him. Here are some pictures of me feeding him and showing him an iconic TV show etc etc.
