King & Elaine

A King's Request
@cpirits
Harlequin looked down. The throng of people beneath his feet made it difficult to see.
Diane. She had asked to meet here. Asked Him. Not the Captain. His cheeks warmed as he recalled it. They were obviously just friends, but longing lingered as he drifted toward the Festival, scanning the mass of people for his--
Date?
Pfft! Right. Like he even stood a chance.
Beyond the gates the crowd dispersed. Young couples and children were drawn to the aroma of hot food. Outdoor entertainers strummed instruments and beat drums to the tune of flutes and forgien song. Fortune tellers and vendors hawked their wares, coercing passersby to participate in carnival games.
Then at the edge of the crowd he saw her. Alone, near the entrance, as a swirl of cherry blossoms danced. Its lazy breeze played softly with her hair.
"Diane..." He vaulted, shifting his weight down to increase his rate of speed. He closed the distance quickly as he gained momentum, now nearly level with the crowd.
His heart faltered when he finally reached her, touching down with a graceful step. "Hey, Diane..."
But something was off. The beat of his heart, now frantic, refused to slow. For a horrible moment he'd forgotten how to speak and needed to remind himself to breathe.
Then only certain words came to mind. Things like:
Pretty. Beautiful. Sexy...
And he wanted so desperately to tell her.
"Uhm, you look, uh..." He ran a hand through his hair, swallowing nervously, sifting through thoughts that begged to be said.
Amazing!
Gorgeous!
Stunning!
Waifu!? <-- Not sure how that got in there...
"Nice!" He slumped, breathing a relieved sigh as the word escaped, finally out. It wasn't perfect, but at least it was a start.

The tavern was quiet now. Night peeked through wood crossed window panes, illuminating the inner Boar Hat with its starry glow. The chandelier caught the moon. Its light refracted off blown glass that lit the tables below, of which all but one was empty…
It was just the two of them. Elaine had ventured back into the world of the living and King, grateful nonetheless, had needed a drink to cope. He stared across the table, unbelieving, golden eyes taking in the lithe face which so resembled his own.
“But Elaaaine…” King, who was admittedly drunk after three pints of ale, could only muster a scowl as he set the stein down. The heavy mug hit hard, echoing his frustrations against the table. “I don’t get it.” He sighed an exasperated breath, trying hard to understand. Running a hand through his hair he ruffled it in annoyance.
“Just… just tell me what you see in him, because I’m definitely missing something.” His voice carried a bit too loudly through the empty tavern, aided by alcohol. “I mean–it’s Ban!” He lifted a hand in irritation, as if trying to explain to a child why they shouldn’t color on walls. “Did he trick you? Bribe you? Wait… d-did he touch you!?” His flush deepened, the pitch of his voice suddenly higher as he groaned. How could she not understand? Not see the danger that was so clear and present. Ban and Elaine? Together!? Ugh. King sneered at the thought.
That bastard. The one who stole the fountain of youth from the Fairy King’s Forest, among other things, had apparently stolen his sister’s heart as well.
It was no secret that they didn’t get along. That the friendship they’d forged was one of necessity. An act, if you will, to placate the Captain. But like hell was the Sin of Greed laying a single filthy finger on Elaine. He’d make sure of it.
A miraculous change it had been, from chaos rampant of drunken patrons, both sins and humans alike taking part in a festivity to which the Guardian felt out of place. Many had taken shelter on the ground, drunken dreams awaiting them as the lights reflected the moon hanging just above the highest point of the Boar Hat. Others retired to bed, leaving all but one table unoccupied.
By some miracle, a third chance that she felt almost undeserving. The breath that entered her lungs and filled her with life, felt almost wrong to be claimed by her. Yet, to be reuinted with the people she loves, to be able to live outside the Fairy King’s Forest..to love..
Yet, it seemed as though her brother had not quite been ready to retire-given the scowl proudly worn on such a delicate face. If he weren’t careful, Elaine was afraid it’d stick that way permanently. “Honestly..” The young Fairy sighed, her weight supported by her elbow with her chin resting in the palm of her delicate hands. Leave it to her older brother to feel the need to act all protective, after abandoning her for almost seven hundred years..
“I know it’s Ban, Harlequin.” Elaine was a patient woman, she had to be, to find her heart claimed by someone like Ban, but even now it was beginning to run thin with her brother acting as if she could not make decisions on her own. As if she were a child being scolded for not cleaning up her toys when specifically told to, Elaine didn’t need this in her life right now. Of course Harlequin would use his drunken state as an outlet of frustration. “He didn’t bribe or trick me–” His ending question sent a rage of burning crimson to her cheeks, unable to look her brother in the face from embarrassment. Regardless, it was none of her brother’s concern whether she or Ban did anything..unsightly.
It was no secret to anyone that she and Ban were an item, and it was no secret that Ban and King didn’t get along. Still, Elaine didn’t need him to make her question her choices.
“Though.~” A sly little grin worked its way onto the younger’s lips, golden irises finding their target who sat drunkenly across the table. “I could ask you about what you see in Diane.~ I’m sure she’d love to know.~”
The haze of alcohol was thick. Like a blanket, warm and inviting, it dulled his reservations. Glazed gold narrowed as she spoke, evading his questions with non answers that didn't address a thing.
Impatient fingers tapped anxiously against table wood. He was barely there. Distracted. Thoughts torn between Chastiefol, piercing Ban through an undead heart and his sister's sly smile.
Uh oh.
He'd seen that smirk before, many times in fact. None of which worked out well for him in the end.
"Huh?" King tilted his head, honestly confused. Diane. She was talking about Diane.
--what you feel for Diane. I'm sure she'd love to know.
His focus slammed back in split second shock.
"Wait--wha.. Elaine!" He straightened in his chair. "I--that's not even, I mean--you know it's a secret, right!?" He pushed away from the table and attempted to stand, knocking the stein to the floor with a heavy thud. Panicked gold flashed around the empty bar, seeking spies in the shadows.
She could do it, too. She could tell Diane and ruin everything. EverythiNG!
With a shaky sigh he regained what was left of his composure.
Just calm down. Play it cool, King. Relax, you got this!
Folding his arms against his chest with a confident shrug, he uttered the biggest lie of his life.
"Fine, go ahead. It doesn't matter anyway. I was going to tell her tomorrow at the Festival." His voice was even, cunning. "Wait and see, it's gonna be a full blown confession."
His gaze darted to her face, assessing her reaction.
Did she buy it? Oh please let her buy it!
"Besides," King's grin grew with his boosted ego. The swagger in his voice now silk and honey as he leaned over the table, mere inches from her face.
"Diane is different. I've known her a lot longer than seven days."
hello mutuals *i gently feed you a (nutritious) mix of dried corn and sunflower seeds out of my hand*
“Because I’m a greedy king. I want to protect the forest and my fairy friends and Diane too! I want to protect all of it! And, I’m going to save the one who saved the Elaine’s heart and has kept her safe, Ban, I’ll save you too!”

Momo nodded his head furiously; that had to be it! “Definitely; the bowl magically broke itself and then got sucked into oblivion.” Surely Sousuke had to appreciate a humorous and nerdy story. Sousuke couldn’t fool Momo with his big muscles and cleavage; that guy was definitely a nerd! “Anyway, you agreed so that must be exactly what happened.” The youth offered him a large, energetic smile.
The Otter had to wonder what the other would do to him; now not only for the broken bowl but his added lying.
"Oblivion, huh?" Sousuke frowned, the sarcasm in his voice rough and thick. "Well I hope oblivion enjoys my expensive cookware." He sighed, knowing anger wouldn't solve the issue or fix his broken mixing bowl. But if he could catch him in the act, it might be easier for the boy to admit his mistakes and hopefully, prevent them.
"Momo, come here." Lifting a hand he curled a single finger in a come hither motion. "I have a little job for you." Like it or not, this kid was going to learn a valuable lesson.

If there was something Momotarou was good at; it was sweeping things under the rug - in the metaphorical of course - Momo has probably never picked up a broom in his life; the perks of being the baby of the family. To be honest; he’d completely forgotten about the broken glass bowl until he heard Sousuke’s thundering voice.
Oops
Momo wasn’t sure what looked more guilty; if he were to rush to the scene would Sousuke be even more angry? Or if he were to take his time and let the other male calm down a little. The decision weighed heavily on his mind; he knew that he broke the bowl but in the past - someone always took the heat for him not wanting to see their little brother get in trouble. Of course Sei had been a lot better with that than Isuzu who didn’t seem to mind seeing Momo get in trouble for the things he did.
After a moment of consideration for the consequences; Momo decided it would be best to face the music and just see what Sousuke wanted. Maybe he didn’t find out about the bowl as Momo was sure he’d taken care of all the glass shards.
He rounded the corner and immediately noticed the makeshift bandage around Sousuke’s finger. “You should be careful with knives.” The otter teased; he tried to come across as casual - as if he had no idea why Sousuke had called him here. Hand behind his head and an eyebrow raised in question.
As the boy spoke his brow furrowed, narrowing his gaze to an intimidating stare.
You should be careful with knives.
“You’re the last person on earth who should be giving advice about being careful.” Only Momotarou had the nerve to tease him at a time like this, but Sousuke saw through his casual demeanor. He’d never seen a more guilty looking kid. “Oi, look what I found.” Cold teal drifted to the splintered glass on the counter. It reflected the kitchen light in jagged rainbow hues. His gaze flashed back to the boy standing in the frame of the door. “Could have sworn it was a whole bowl yesterday.” Sousuke shrugged, implying this revelation was nothing new. “I wonder what happened to the rest of it.” He paused, feigning concentration, as if this was a dilemma that couldn’t possibly be solved. “Must have just... broken itself, then magically disappeared.”

It all started a month ago. Agreeing to let Momo crash at his apartment had led to an array of spontaneous mishaps. One by one, knickknacks had been bumped off shelves. Plates had mysteriously cracked or broken. Prized possessions were nearly destroyed in a wake of excitement that couldn’t be contained. The rambunctious red-head was accident prone and up until now, it hadn’t been held against him. But after nearly a half hour of searching for a glass mixing bowl--the one he always used for cooking, Sousuke Yamazaki had reached his limit. He found it eventually, at least, a part of it. Half forgotten in a lower cupboard, the shard of glass sliced deep as he hunted through various pots and pans. “Tch!” He pulled back, examining his hand beneath the soft glow of halogen lights. A line of blood bloomed at the tip of his finger. With a frown he grabbed a paper towel and cloaked the wound with a makeshift bandage. The fragment of glass was a perfect sliver of curved bowl. Strange, that it was the only part left. As if it had been hastily overlooked while the rest of the evidence was discarded. Even stranger, that he’d used it the night before, washed then dried it, and put it carefully away. Perfectly intact.
“Momo!” His voice resonated through the small apartment like a clap of thunder. He placed the remainder of the bowl on the counter where it was easy to see. Leaning back, he waited patiently for the boy to come bounding in, idly wondering what the kid’s excuse would be this time.
"I brought your hoodie back, and some cookies as interest" - Gou
“Oh?” His brow lifted, suddenly intrigued. “It’s a bit big on you, but you look cute in my clothes.” Sousuke took the tin of cookies and popped the lid, coaxing the scent of bitter chocolate and butter pecan into the room. “Thank you.” He smiled and tilted the tin in an offer to share. “But you should keep the sweater. I wouldn’t want you to catch a cold.”
