7 for Emily !
So, two of my ask games are structured similarly, i.e. both of them contain numbers from 1 to 20 (or 30). Therefore, Iâll answer this ask in relation to both of the aforementioned ask games.
Describe her in three words. Now let her describe her in three words.
For me, Iâd say that sheâs driven, thoughtful and merciless.
Me? Emily smiles. Iâm the best. A pause. Oh, you want two more words? Well, Iâd say that I can be firm, but Iâm also quite forgiving. In a certain sense of the word.
Whatâs her handwriting like?
My handwriting? She looks at her hands. Well, Iâd say my handwriting is decent. Iâve never tried to make it look fancy, but if you were to ask for my personal opinion, Iâd say itâs quite pretty. If Iâm in a rush, though, it can get a little illegible, but most people can still read my writing even then.
SOCIALIZING
WORD COUNT: 0.8k // SUMMARY: Sinister ends their promotions for Deconsecrated for the time being. // ERA: Deconsecrated
âFucking finally,â Max gasped, collapsing into her chair, and took a quick gulp of water. âThis is the last of it, right?â
Konoe opened his mouth, and that was when Natsuko decided that it was time to leave. She didnât leave immediately, of course; there was still makeup to remove, and a few cute little clips to be spliced into a video that would be going up on their YouTube channel. Once Susie and Max had hogged the camera, though, Natsuko brushed herself down, muttered that sheâd be going to the bathroom, and escaped out into the breezy auditorium.
This particular music show maintained a holding area for rookie idols, with more established idols monopolizing individual waiting rooms. The partitions werenât very thick at all, but they looked very solid. The whole place was buzzing with activity, and a lost-looking idol wandering around would be picked up almost immediately.
Which was exactly what happened.
âAre you lost?â
Natsuko turned around, slapping an appropriately confused expression onto her face, and nodded. âIâm looking for the bathroom.â
âOh, Iâm going there too. Here, Iâll show you there.â
Her new friend was very reserved, but Natsuko had experience with such people, and it wasnât long before she managed to convince Sooyeon to open up a little, having taken advantage of the fact that they both spoke English to worm her way a little deeper into the other girlâs confidence.
âYouâre from Sinister, right?â
âYeah,â Natsuko said, brushing a stray piece of glitter off her cheeks, and grabbed a paper towel for herself. âSay, your performance is over, right? Do you want to come over and say hi?â
âOh, I donât know. My scheduleâŠâ
âCome on,â Natsuko wheedled. âItâll just be a few minutes.â
Sooyeon hesitated, but Natsuko could be very convincing when the situation called for it, and once they were trooping in the direction of their partition, Natsuko fished her phone out of her pocket and gave Konoe a quick heads-up. She shouldnât have bothered, though, because they were soon waylaid by one of Sooyeonâs colleagues.
âSooyeon!â someone called, and Natsuko turned to see a boy approaching the both of them. âHi!â
Sooyeon paused. âOh, Bolin! I loved your performance.â
âOh, of course you did,â the other boy crowed, injecting a dash of playfulness into his tone to soften the blow, and followed up that enlightening little comment with a compliment. âYour performance was nice, too.â He turned to Natsuko. âAnd youâre - youâre from, uh, Sinners, arenât you?â
âSinister,â Natsuko amended, smiling tightly.
âThis is Bolin,â Sooyeon interjected. âHeâs from Pastel.â
âOh, Pastel,â Natsuko gasped, nodding sagely. âNice to meet you.â
Bolin squinted. âYeah, you too.â
âIâm just going to say hi to the rest of Sinister,â Sooyeon said. âNo need to report on me or anything, yeah?â
Bolin placed a hand over his heart and adopted an exaggeratedly betrayed expression. âIâm shocked that youâd have such a low opinion of me, Sooyeon.â A pause. âIâll see you two around, okay?â
âBye!â
Natsuko watched as he disappeared into the crowd. It probably wouldnât have been appropriate for him to come along, anyway, she thought, and guided Sooyeon through the maze of partitions until they were stepping into the one occupied by Sinister. Theyâd done a good job of keeping things in check (not that they hadnât been behaving themselves before, of course); Iseul wasnât dangling from the ceiling, Chiemi wasnât toying with her knife, and - most importantly of all - Max didnât look like she was up to anything at all.
Which is why, when Sooyeon shook Maxâs hand and jerked, Natsuko cursed in the blessed privacy of her mind and rolled her eyes. âStatic electricity,â she explained, as a shit-eating grin spread across Maxâs face. âSheâs prone to this sort of thing.â
âSorry,â Max said, not sounding sorry at all.
Woolen socks, Natsuko mouthed, as Sooyeon made polite conversation with Olivia. Woolen socks for a month!
Max stuck out her tongue.
That was what it took to keep her in check. Natsuko knew how to deal with people like Max, after all; if they were forced to discipline themselves for any amount of time, things would come to a head eventually, and then there would be hell to pay. If Max could blow off steam from time to time - push against but not utterly demolish the boundaries that they had set - then there wouldnât be any major incidents. It was still a delicate situation, to be sure, but it wasnât like Natsuko had been able to come up with a better solution.
Sheâll prove her usefulness soon, anyway.
As she brought Sooyeon to the door and pressed a packet of crackers into her hands over her polite protests, Natsuko smiled. âItâs nice to meet you, Sooyeon.â
âYou too.â
The door shut, and Natsuko exhaled.
Not a bad start, I suppose.

LIVING ARRANGEMENTS
THE DORM
Located in an apartment complex in a fairly middle-class portion of Seoul (not too swanky nor too impoverished as to raise eyebrows)
The living room has been refurbished to allow for dance practice, and itâs not that cramped, which is good
Officially, there are three bedrooms and two bathrooms
BR1 - Emily and Liz
BR2 - Edie and Olivia
BR3 - Susie and Max
THE ACTUAL SITUATION
Stratagem Entertainment owns several apartments to either side of their official dorm under various shell companies and falsified individuals, and the walls between these apartments have been knocked down and replaced with fake walls
Other things go on in these apartments that may not be directly related to Sinister; Stratagem Entertainment didnât acquire those apartments just for their benefit
Unofficially, each member has one room
BR1 - Emily
BR2 - Edie
BR3 - Max
Liz sleeps in another apartment with easy roof access
Oliviaâs room is more of a workshop and is one floor down
Susie âsleepsâ on the couch
Of the two bathrooms in the official dorm, one has been claimed by Emily. The other one is Edieâs.
Lizâs apartment has two bathrooms, one of which is hers. Max uses the other one.
Oliviaâs apartment has two bathrooms and she uses both as she likes.
Susie discreetly empties the food and water that sheâs consumed into a garbage chute.
FOOD
Emily and Liz can cook, but donât do so all the time, which necessitates takeout
Edie has regular deliveries of meat (doesnât matter what kind of meat, as long as itâs fresh and thereâs a lot of it)
Liz occasionally catches her own food (I will not elaborate)
Max sometimes roasts her own food by passing an electric current through it, but itâs never really ended well
Susie just eats to be polite, honestly
Liv skips meals on occasion, preferring to subsist off coffee and instant noodles

EARLY DAYS
WORD COUNT:Â 1.3k // SUMMARY: In which Olivia wakes up. // ERA: Predebut
Olivia thought.
In her current situation, it was all she could do. Oh, she could speak, and swallow, and swivel her eyes about behind her bandages to no end, but her arms and legs were limp and lifeless, as weak as an infant's. When sheâd first became aware of her situation, there hadnât been any feeling at all in them, and panic had flared in her chest, hot and stifling, before sheâd realized that she wasnât actually paralyzed.
Her actuators, though, were infallible. They were made of metal, unlike her weak, fleshy limbs, and they could keep moving when her legs gave out underneath her, or when her arms grew too sore to lift. She could see through them, through the cameras mounted on their ends, and through them she could see that she was in a hospital, with a man - Japanese? - watching over her. His pulse had spiked. He's scared.
Her actuators crept over the floor towards her, sliding into her bed, handling her bandaged form with care. They manoeuvred by touch, nosing up her back, until they uncovered a knot of scar tissue at the base of her neck. They left it untouched.
When the microwires re-interfaced with her spine, it felt like coming home.
Who needs weak, badly-designed eyeballs when you could have high-definition, high-quality cameras?
"Mirror," Olivia rasped, and the Japanese man pointed to her right. Her actuators turned to look, and there was a door. Slowly, careful-as-you-please, the harness crackled over her stiff, sore hips, gliding over the gauze, and slotted into place, supporting her spine. The pressure was familiar, applied evenly from her hips all the way up to her ribs (since when could I feel my ribs?), and as her actuators lifted her out of bed and into the bathroom, she saw herself, suspended a foot above the ground, hanging limply from her actuators. She couldn't see a single square inch of skin that was uncovered, apart from around her mouth.
Let's change that.
One of her actuators unsheathed a blade (oh, it's dull; I'll have to replace it). The bandages had been applied deliberately and carefully, to apply pressure to her whole head, and as they fell away, Olivia realized just how constricted she'd been.
That realization, however, paled in comparison to her new face.
Wow.
She had cheekbones, now, and her eyes were larger. Her double chin had vanished, and the spray of acne that had been the blight of her high school years (among other things) seemed to have been wiped from existence. She was bald, though, and her eyes -
"Fuck," Olivia hissed, and squeezed them shut.
"Your eyes haven't been exposed to light in months," a woman said, dryly, from behind her, and one of her actuators spun around. "Take it slow."
"And who are you?"
"Call me Natsuko," said the woman, who seemed to be as old as Olivia herself. "Itâs nice to meet you in person, Ms Choi."
-----
The hospital in which she had been warded was located on the outskirts of a Japanese city, one of the smaller ones. Theyâd told her the name of the city, but Olivia hadnât bothered to devote any effort to retaining it. She wasnât sure, but it seemed as though she was the only patient there.
âWe use it to house injured personnel,â Natsuko told her, glancing up from her phone to answer her question, and Olivia nodded absently, sunglasses perched on the bridge of her unfamiliar nose.
Her eyes were still adjusting, as was the rest of her. The doctors said that it was good that she hadnât tried to walk immediately upon waking up, because her legs wouldnât have been able to support her weight. They were putting her through a physiotherapy programme in the desolate, hastily-retrofitted underground basement, and it was this programme that she was currently enduring, arms quivering as the treadmill beeped and the electrodes plastered to her scalp fizzled.
âIâm getting stir-crazy,â she said, between abortive, heaving pants, and Natsuko nodded sympathetically.
âThatâs understandable. Honestly, if you werenât getting a little cooped-up, Iâd have been worried.â She leaned against one of the handrails. âIâll talk to the doctors. We should be able to let you go out on a few⊠eh⊠night-time excursions.â
âGreat.â
Natsuko shifted. âIâve been meaning to ask you about something else, actually,â she began, carefully, and took Oliviaâs grunt as permission to continue. âNow, as we understand, thereâs a lot of people who are currently searching for you, yes?â
Olivia nodded. Her legs were sore, but she couldnât find it in herself to be tired of how they pumped and glided beneath her. Theyâd made her so tall.
âHave you ever heard of the phrase hiding in plain sight?â
âWhat?â
âYou see, thereâs this little project of mine,â Natsuko muttered, leaning in, and Olivia, intrigued, listened. âImagine, if you will, being adored by millions. Youâd be called upon to film commercials, or to model. You certainly have the looks for it, after all.â
Adoration.
It was a novel concept, to be sure. Olivia had never been adored before. There was a boy in high school who had asked her to meet him behind the bleachers, like in the movies, but that had just been the set-up to a particularly cruel prank. Apart from himâŠ
âBlouses and skirts,â Natsuko enthused. âLipstick and mascara. Thereâd be a full complement of staff whose job it would be to make sure that your every need is met.â
Olivia had never been one for blouses and skirts. Sheâd always preferred hoodies and sweatpants, baggy clothes that concealed her pudgy figure and allowed her to fade into the background. Now, thoughâŠ
âThink of it as⊠oh⊠making up for lost time.â
Olivia squinted. âWhat?â
Natsuko blinked. âWhat?â
âWhat's making up for lost time supposed to mean?â
âJust a turn of phrase.â
âHmph,â Olivia grunted. The treadmill was finally slowing down, after an interminable period of time, and she called her actuators to her as it ground to a halt. âAnd if I say no?â
âWell, according to the terms of our prior agreement, youâll remain in our employ for a decade or so, producing technology to our specifications.â
Inwardly, Olivia winced. Sheâd been desperate, exhausted and shaken when sheâd signed that contract, all those months ago. (How long has it been? A year? More?) Theyâd placed it in front of her, and sheâd signed it without a second thought. âA decade?â she repeated, numbly.
âA decade,â Natsuko confirmed, and as her actuators tramped past the shorter woman, Olivia wondered if it would be wiser to flee in the night and try to make it to China on her own. She discarded the idea almost immediately, of course. âPerhaps more. Iâd have to check, of course.â
âCanât I renegotiate?â Olivia tried, attempting to hide the sinking feeling in her stomach.
âNo.â Natsuko looked as though she might smile, just to rub it in, but her expression didnât change. As Oliviaâs harness tightened over her waist and lifted her off the treadmill, her head tilted upwards to continue looking at her. âBesides, weâve already delivered on our end of the bargain. Weâve shielded you from your pursuers for the past few months, and weâve made you unrecognizable. Weâll continue to protect you from them for as long as the contract stipulates.â
Which is more than a decade. What if they come and get me after my time is up?
I deserve it.
Olivia inhaled.
No, I donât.
âAnd I suppose that if I go along with this enterprise, youâll reduce myâŠâ Olivia searched for the phrase, â⊠term of service?â
âWeâll reduce it to five years, but weâll keep in touch with you for as long as we need to. Just to make sure that you havenât been brought in or captured, of course.â
That makes it easier to decide.
âIâll think about it,â Olivia said.
âPlease do,â Natsuko answered, smiling thinly, and left.
DECONSECRATED
DECONSECRATED is the debut EP by South Korean-Japanese girl group SINISTER, and was released by Stratagem Entertainment on March 15, 20??. The album contains four tracks, with âIn & Outâ as its lead single. A music video was produced for âIn & Outâ.
TRACKLIST
01 - In & Out (lead single + promotion song)
Questions were raised regarding the viability of a title track in which no member rapped, despite the ostensible presence of two rappers in the group. However, since those posing said questions had (and continue to have) no say in how Stratagem Entertainment runs its business, their concerns were summarily dismissed.
02 - Number 1
03 - Heat
04 - Dazzle Dazzle
RECEPTION
Can you say âastroturfâ?
The music video for In & Out did decently well, accumulating a total of a million views by the end of the first month. After the initial hype had died down, it was agreed that two million would probably be its upper limit.
About half of the sales generated by Sinister were raised from innocent, âcleanâ customers. The rest were bulk orders from Japan, purchased through entirely proper and legal channels.
Sinister appeared on a few (not too many, we donât want to get accused of bribing the network executives, do we?) variety shows, which did help to get their name out there, though - for the most part - they did not perform to expectations at all. It remains to be seen whether this will be a good or a bad thing in the long run.
DECONSECRATED was promoted via busking, which does partially explain its unusual popularity (most girl groups launched by fresh and untested companies struggle to hit one million views within three months, let alone one week).
Sinister held exactly one (1) fansign.
