Since no one else could be bothered to do it I translated Mats’s Facebook message lol
After my transfer to FC Bayern was announced today, I now would like to expand a little more. I’m sure you can imagine the last few weeks have also been very nerve-wracking for me, because I have made the most difficult decision of my life. In the end, I came to the realization that I wanted to take on a new challenge again, in my hometown where my family and many friends live. It is clear to me that it will be difficult for some people to understand my decision. But after eight and a half really great years in Dortmund, it was time for me to try something new again. With a heavy heart I now leave the club and the team with whom I have grown together and am able to celebrate great successes. Therefore, I would like to thank all who have contributed to this. You, the exceptional fans of this great club. All the staff who worked “behind the scenes”. Also, of course, my three coaches that I have had the fortune to experience here and Michael Zorc and Hans-Joachim Watzke. And particularly my teammates, as they are - regardless of the fact that these last few years would not have been possible without you - always an open ear for me. Of course I have also taken in the many messages, comments, and posts to convince me to stay at BVB. And also the great encouragement after our home game against Wolfsburg, whether in the stadium, at the training groud or in the supermarket, I was very touched. This speaks for the unique BVB fans and I appreciated that.
Now I’m going to give everything in the remaining training sessions and games to honour this time with a worthy farewell. And return to the Pott after the final with the Pokal in our hands!
Thanks! Mats
TLDR: Mats wanted a new experience so he’s…moving home to be with his family and friends…?

English Translation:
“To date, I have played 32 times for the German National Team and for all those 32 times, I have had goosebumps when singing my country’s national anthem.
“Unity and Justice and Freedom” are values of our democracy. And these are values that we can only defend together. We need unity even more so in troubled times.
I will be travelling to Hannover to watch the German National team play, as a fan. I want to be there, for us all to be together, for the victims, for France, for democracy and for humanity”
