This is mostly a reblog channel, though I may sometimes go on the occasional rant. I reblog all my art from my art blog as well. Sorry about the mess, I am much too lazy to fix it. Anyways that's it! Hello Tumbr!
Now I'm curious: how do you see Chapter 5 ending? No need for a comic or sketch, just an explanation will suffice!
Oh sheesh, okay, might as well just write out my fanfiction nonsense as a summary or the like!
Keep in mind that this is 1) how I would incorporate a reveal for my Susie crack theory as well, and 2) just for the normal route. Weird route is outside my purview; I think it'd lead to the same basic conclusion but with vastly different circumstances.
Also uh, this got pretty long, soooo under a cut it goes!
I figure that weâll be doing the dark world in Asgoreâs shop first, then the festival afterwards. Maybe Asgore is hanging back to actually clean up the shop after a dark world scuffle, or if things have gone really sideways and he needs to seriously rethink whatever heâs been involved with. Either way, heâs gotta fix something important before Asriel arrives. Kris and Susie do get the police shelter code from him, at least. They stop by Castle Town again with new recruits, and assuming the secret boss was defeated, thereâs enough shadow crystals now for Seam to forge their special something.
The two do stop by the shelter again, and the code from Asgore works! However, they still need two other codes. Well, they still donât know how to avoid that final prophecy, the Knight is becoming far more brazen in their appearances, and theyâre running out of time to figure this out...but at least theyâve made some progress on the shelter, Castle Townâs just about full now, and Seamâs special something could give them a big advantage. Maybe if they keep looking and trying they can solve this! Either way, thereâs a festival they promised to attend, so itâs off to that.
The festivalâs going to be packed with people and all of the side stories that might be brewing with them! Pizzapants learns about being catfished, perhaps some development happens between Bratty and Catty, and the Cattenheimer sisters in general. Papyrus finally shows up...but, believing this was a Halloween festival, is in full costume, so we still donât know exactly what he looks like.
Kris has been acting weirder and more antsy all chapter, though, and it seems like theyâre talking more frequently with people in the conspiracy whenever they get a moment. To that end, they remove the soul, and it ends up in some kind of container -a takeout box, or prize box, whathaveyou- that gets passed around various parties in equally humorous and terrifying manners.
Carolâs attempts to prevent Susie and Noelle from meeting up are thwarted, and her means of isolating Susie are limitedâŚshe canât accuse Susie of trashing the church without also implicating Kris, not to mention Undyne and now Alvin have mysteriously gone missing. The two lesbians finally get to have their date! Thereâs more awkward teenage festival romance, winning prizes, getting snacks, learning more about each other; itâs all going great! Susie isnât great at the games, but does win her a new pencil. Thereâs some hints of underlying problems...Noelle mentions that sheâs noticed this strange figure thatâs been skirting around the edges of the festival, just out of her line of sight...like itâs stalking her. Susie assures her that sheâll protect her from any stalkers. Of course the dateâs topped off with a ride on the ferris wheel, and perhaps even their first kiss!
However, on the ride, Susie makes unmistakable comparisons to their first ferris wheel ride, and so accidentally lets slip that the dark worlds are real. She canât really talk her way out of it. Noelle is shocked by this and demands to know why she was lied to. Susie admits some of why she wanted to keep it secret, how she was worried for Noelleâs safety, all of that. Noelle reluctantly accepts this...this is a big deal and sheâs really worried about what this could mean, but at least she knows now, right? They can work through this, somehow. Hopefully.
âYouâre not keeping any more big secrets from me, right Susie?â
âNo,â Susie lies.
The two exit the ride into a large crowd; Kris and everyone else of note are present. Itâs then that Carol makes her move â staging an âaccidentâ wherein Susie is suddenly struck across the nose or face, drawing blood. Noelleâs shocked â âSusie, youâre bleeding!â Susie is ready to throw hands with Carol, but assures her itâs nothing, just a cutâŚ
Until Noelle clarifies it with asking how sheâs bleeding, and Susie is left confused. Why is âhowâ a question here? Carol then springs her trap, demonstrating with one of her katanas: because monsters donât bleed. âYou didnât even know, did you?â Carol sneers.
Susie is suddenly surrounded on all sides by a crowd of Hometown residents gaping at her, and immediately falls into panic. Carol reveals that with a little digging into the townâs records, sheâs found out some things about just who Susie is and where she came from, and she strikes a final blow: âNo wonder your behavior is so. Aberrant. What else could be expected from a half-human freak.â
Susie flees the festival in tears, feeling completely destroyed in front of the community she was trying so hard to finally find a home with. Noelle tries to immediately run after her, but Carol grabs her arm, warning her not to follow. Noelle resists more, and still Carol holds on, until Noelle says, âMom, youâre hurting me!â
This seems to snap Carol out of what she was doing, and she lets go. But before Noelle can run after Susie, she says sharply, âNoelle, before you run from me. Think very carefully. Do you truly want to share your heart with someone who keeps such an important thing from you? What else do you think sheâs keeping from you?â
This stops Noelle in her tracks. She did just learn about the dark worlds being real, and then Susie promised her there were no other secrets...what if there is more? Feeling completely crushed, she bursts into tears and runs off into the festival.
The crowd erupts into a quiet, scandalized buzz, although actually stopping to talk to them would show theyâre more upset at the mayorâs cruelty than Susieâs secret. Kris does approach the mayor, giving her a poisonous glare.
âDonât give me that look, Kris. Iâve just done all three of you a great favor. This will...make things easier for you.â
And she then leaves to get herself cleaned up. From here, the player has to choose between one of three final scenes; you canât see all of them together. Youâd need to either reload from a save or use different save files! What you get depends on who you pass the soul-in-a-prize-box to:
1) Pass it to Sans
2) Keep it with Kris
3) Pass it to Rudy
Pass it to Sans
Sans nonchalantly mentions going to get some air, and if you pass the box to him, he goes to find Susie sobbing on the bench in the graveyard. He tries to approach her, but she just screams at him to get lost.
âWhat that mayor lady said...you know itâs not true, right? Youâre not a freak. Youâre just a kid,â he says. She screams at him again to leave her alone. What would he ever know about how she feels? Well, he scoots down next to her and then âaccidentallyâ gives himself a cut on the prize box, drawing blood. âHuh, wouldja look at that? They make that cardboard sharper every year.â
Susieâs shocked out of her crying at this reveal. Wait...heâs like her?! Sans assures her that sheâs certainly not the only one of her kind in the world. He gets that itâs rough often, but hey...it seems like sheâs already got some real good friends thatâll stand by her, as long as she doesnât push them away. Susieâs had her worldview shifted a lot in quick succession, but at the very least, the terrible impressions Sans left her with last chapter are starting to turn around.
She finally starts to calm down and they start to have a bit a conversation, being two monsters with a penchant for breaking societyâs rules. As for Papyrus? Well, thatâs a bit of a complicated matter. In the middle of their conversation, however, Sans glances towards the sky⌠âHuh, looks like rainâs cominâ.â
Susie looks up, and she immediately recognizes the thick, black cloud thatâs forming over the festival. âOh crap!!â And sheâs off running back to the festival.
Keep it with Kris
Kris also takes off after Susie as soon as they can get away, but unlike Sans, they get intercepted...by Asriel! Heâs finally made it back home, and embraces his sibling, asking how things are going, and willing to answer questions in turn. Kris is trapped in a situation that they absolutely did not want to have happen...an opportunity for the player to find out everything they can about their brother.
Of course the player forces Kris to grill Asriel on all the info we can get our hands on...yeah, this is what heâs studying. Remember those embarrassing things he did when they were both younger? Did he mention heâs got a new partner? Kris gets increasingly agitated as the conversation goes on. No, donât ask about dad right now! No, donât ask what momâs been up to! No, donât ask about the friends theyâve made! Asriel finally notices that Kris is acting, well...very weird. Just whatâs going on? âCâmon, Kris, you can always tell me!â
But before the player manages to really screw things up for Kris, Asriel notices a figure that seems to be watching them from just behind the trees. Whoâs eavesdropping on them? Wait a minute...those antlersâŚ
It couldnât be...could it?!
Asriel takes off after the figure as it vanishes into the forest, but before he can get far, the two are suddenly overtaken by a roiling black cloud spreading out from the festival.
Pass it to Rudy
Rudy, whoâs made the effort to get to the festival, is horrified at whatâs gone down between his wife and his daughter...but right now his focus has to be on Noelle. Not really knowing or caring why Kris has handed him this box, he runs after Noelle. Sheâs lost in her own turmoil, and at first doesnât hear him calling after her.
By the time she turns and sees him, though, heâs expended way more energy than he actually has to spare. âNoelle, waitâŚâ he gasps out her name a final time before collapsing. Terrified, Noelle immediately runs to his side and tries to rouse him. He doesnât respond...just ragged, shallow, coughing breaths, getting further and further apart.
Noelle cries for help from someone, anyone nearby. But no oneâs paying attention; too caught up in the commotion from earlier, or off attending to something else. Who knows where her mom is now? Susie and Kris are nowhere nearby.
Noelleâs mind races through options. Everything seems to have gone wrong...her date with Susie was ruined, there seems to be something terribly wrong with Kris, something is stalking her, her father is dying in her arms; the whole world seems to be falling apart. But...she now knows that her dream was real. Thereâs someplace she can go with healing magic; someplace where she can shape the world itself. Where she can finally take back some control over her life!
She grips the pencil that Susie won for her, concentrates all her will into the point, and stabs the earth, releasing a new dark fountain into the open outdoors of the festival.

Assuming the theory that Papyrus is from Deltarune is true- HEâS GROWN A LOT. The massive difference between him in Deltarune vs Undertale makes me so emotional, going from staying inside 247, and supposedly being too scared to even respond to knocks at his door, to being the most sociable, positive man aliveâŚ.UGH.
WHAT HAPPENED TO HIM???
this is just so gorgeousâŚAnd it made me think of him so I had to
Many players have expressed disappointment over not being able to interact with sans' brother Papyrus. However, despite not making a direct appearance, Papyrus's influence has been seen throughout the entire game:
Papyrus WILL appear in chapter 5. Papyrus WILL show up at the festival. Papyrus WILL prove to the fandom that he's more than a hollow joke or an "innocent cinnamon roll" or just straight up overlooked. Papyrus WILL be significant I'm TELLING YOU.
Papyrus being missing so far in Deltarune WILL be significant. His casual breaking of physics and constant hints and mentions of how powerful he is in Undertale WILL also be a thing in Deltarune.
Toby fox told me all of this personally. Source: trust me bro
papyrus knight isn't a crack theory and i'm tired of seeing that it is
In the general deltarune fandom, the theory that Dess is the knight is accepted with any other theories being thrown out the window or seen as ridiculous or crack. Even if Dess Knight is likely, we need to remember that it's still a theory, it's speculative, as are most theories surrounding the mysteries in this game, so we shouldn't just disregard any criticisms of it.
Case in point: Papyrus Knight
Before getting to that point, I'll start with my own criticisms of Dess Knight. I'll admit that they're not thoroughly researched as I'm sure some others are ( I remember reading a document that I found on here that was highlighting criticism for it, but I can't seem to find it now ). However, I think there are still a few reasons I can point out just to highlight the fact that there are no airtight theories for the Knight.
If Dess is the Knight, what reason does Kris have to hide the Knights Identity from us? We don't know what Dess looks like, she's a missing person. And even if we did find out it was Dess specifically from that interaction, it's not like we can go confront her.
Speaking narratively, since I see a lot of arguments saying the Knight is Dess as it make more sense and would be a huge twist, Casual players who've only played UNDERTALE and deltarune will barely know who Dess is, all they'd really know is that she's missing. (On the topic of casual players, it's okay to somewhat believe Carol is the knight while playing Chapter 4, with the "I'll be right there." While Carol may or may not be the Knight, I think she's at least meant to be a sort of red herring.)
If lost girl is Dess's theme, why isn't it in the Knights theme? It's clear that Toby uses music to highlight connections between characters and places, (Heartache is present in ASGORE due to their connection, and most recently sans' theme is taken out of It's Raining Somewhere Else to give us The Place Where it Rained.)
This one is quite minor, but if a valid argument against Rudy Knight is that he wouldn't have the strength to carry Undyne across town, then how is a teenager able to carry her across town?
Similarly, we don't know what could cause Dess to look the way she does if she is the Knight, the Knight has for some reason ribs that protrude from their armour, and as far as we know, Dark worlds don't cause these sorts of changes.
I know that there are a lot of reasons that Dess could be the Knight, ( The baseball bat, the similarities to Kris, etc..) and I'm not saying that Dess Knight is definitely not true, and I'm not about to argue that Papyrus Knight definitely is, I'm just trying to highlight the fact that we don't know who the knight is. Kris Knight seemed to be the right theory at the end of Chapter 2 and it's evidently not true, how do we know that Dess Knight is definitely true until the Roaring Knight is unmasked?
Now to the point of this long rant, my reasons for Papyrus Knight to still be a viable theory, in fact even more so now that we've seen the Knight in person.
Until Chapter 4, every time you go up to Sans and Papyrus' house, you can hear the 'distant trousle of bones' ( a clear reference to bonetrousle ). But in Chapter 4, the only chapter where the Knight is physically present, you can no longer hear the trousle of bones.
2. Even though the general fandom seems to forget, if Sans is from deltarune, Papyrus likely is too. I saw this mentioned in @insanelyadd's video that people always focus on the idea that Sans is from deltarune, but not Papyrus. But both Sans AND Papyrus just "showed up one day and asserted themselves", Papyrus likely came from deltarune too.
3. An idea from the the alarm clock dialogue with the numbers joke suggests that maybe Papyrus was a villain, or an anti-hero ( perhaps even the knight?) but reformed before he and his brother ended up in UNDERTALE. It may even explain Papyrus' emphasis that we can change when on the genocide route, if he was able to change and become 'The Great Papyrus' that we know, surely we can too.
4. Even if this isn't a genuine theory crafting reason, Papyrus is the only main character from UNDERTALE who we don't help through their journey and character growth, even with Sans we help him be hopeful through his nihilism towards the end. But Papyrus doesn't change, we don't help him through anything, we barely know anything about him beyond superficial reasons (He wants to join the royal guard, he likes making spaghetti even though he never eats it). There's a lot more mysteries surrounding Papyrus and his past, heck, we know more about Sans and Gaster's pasts than Papyrus'.
For some reason he always wears gloves, he says so himself in one of his phone calls and when Toriel gives them all mittens, he just puts them over his gloves. Why?
Even though music is pretty important thematically, Papyrus' room actively stops music from playing when Papyrus isn't around, even at the end of the game when Reunited is playing everywhere it stops it. The other room that does this is, the Mystery Man room in waterfall.
5. Papyrus is also decently powerful, something Undyne says herself, as he shows a level of control that even powerful monsters such as Toriel don't even have. (His attacks don't do any damage to you if you reach 1HP, while Toriel accidentally kills you.)
This isn't specifically for Papyrus Knight, but the fact that the Knight has antlers doesn't mean that it's specifically a Holiday, they're wearing a helmet, because when you get the option to imagine the Knight, It mentions a helmet. (Little joke, but how do they get the helmet on over their antlers?)
Ultimately, I'm not saying that Papyrus Knight is definitely true and that anyone who believes in Dess Knight is wrong (but I do think Papyrus is going to play a role in the story) , but I am hoping that people might be a bit more open minded, and remember that there are so many mysteries in deltarune, the identity of the Roaring Knight is just one of them.
Also to anyone who says that Papyrus wouldn't be important in deltarune because he already was in UNDERTALE, is just ignoring the importance of Asgore, Toriel and potentially Sans in Chapter 5. deltarune is a game for people who played UNDERTALE first, and there has to be a reason that Papyrus is "busy" at least.
But I guess at the end of the day, this is just my opinion that I'm speaking into the void of tumblr, so thanks to anyone who stopped by to read my thoughts, however long they ended up being.
i saw this twitter screenshot on pinterest and my brain went 'haha papyrus knight theory'
okay. so i did some theorycrafting. (this is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously i just have a bit with my friends where i try to prove papyrus is the knight at every teeny tiny little hint)
uh chapter 3 spoilers i think? anyways *ahem*
my papyrus and dess are the same person and also the knight theory (this is crack treated seriously)
IN whichever year dess was conceived CAROL HOLIDAY had an AFFAIR with WING DING GASTER THE ROYAL SCIENCE which caused a rift between carol and rudy which led to rudy figuring out he was gay but that's UNIMPORTANT!! ANYWAYS
DECEMBER HOLIDAY was born as a SKELETON/DEER HYBRID MONSTER. when they were young they LOOKED LIKE A DEER but when they went through MONSTER PUBERTLY all their FUR FELL OFF TO REVEAL A SKELETON !! (normal puberty things)
then PLOT TWIST! dess realises HE'S actually TRANSMASC and uses HE/HIM PRONOUNS and goes by PAPYRUS. he meets his half-brother sans (because gaster had another son before him!!) sometime during his identity journey. CAROL IS A CAPITALIST AND EVIL AND PAPYRUS DOSEN'T LIKE HER SO HE RUNS AWAY TO LIVE WITH SANS. SOMETIME AFTER THAT he decides to do WHATEVER THE KNIGHT DOES and ALSO!! undertale papyrus lived in SNOWDIN. which is covered in? SNOW. what is snow associated with?
DECEMBER.
FREAKING.
HOLIDAYS.
THEREFORE.
YOU CAN'T HIDE THE EVIDENCE: PAPYRUS UNDERTALE IS THE KNIGHT (AND ALSO DESS)!!!!!!!11!!!!1!!!!!1111!
Alphys is so important and unique in undertale. sheâs the royal scientist, a (initially self-serving) ally to frisk, and the focal point of the True Lab; her experiments on determination led to Floweyâs very existence, among their other impacts in the Underground. her arc is such a gratifying part of undertale and yet she's been so relegated to the periphery in deltarune. she's just a... regular, run of the mill teacher? which is fine? but? huh?
sheâs exceptionally irrelevant to the dark worlds compared to everyone else. other characters have been the source of great speculation for good reason, or at least, weâve seen hints of their relevance. both Asgore and Toriel are tied to the Dess conspiracy, Undyne is missing in the bunker, sans is⌠sans, Papyrus is suspiciously and increasingly absent, and Mettaton is the subject of a number of references in the Dark World, the least of which being the spamton NEO body that he drew on the Library computer. Alphysâ greatest relevance at first glance, meanwhile, is probably having been the one to tell Kris & Susie to go get the chalk.
that's not enough for me, so i want to make the argument here that Alphysâ peripherality to the narrative is suspicious and intentionally overlooked, and that thereâs going to be more than meets the eye happening as the story unfolds. this is a long one sorry ^-^
let's go over what we know about Alphys in Deltarune. We know sheâs the teacher for the high school class in Hometown. and weâve seen that sheâs not especially good at it. firstly, Alphys isnât very mature and can't seem to separate her hobbies, interests, and obsessions from the obligations of her job as a high school teacher.
she really wants to come across as the cool teacher and is terrified of doing or saying anything that would make her students dislike her (which obviously isn't working). she does try to look out for kris, but ultimately, she's terrified of taking risks. despite her concerns, she keeps trying to act like more of a âteen on their levelâ than an authority figure whoâs supposed to be preparing them for their future.Â
This makes sense with who Alphys has always been. sheâs always been shy, insecure, and nerdy. being a scientist in Undertale made sense for her, even if she lied, because she could keep to herself and hole up in her lab. teaching, meanwhile, is a job that requires you to be able to tolerate dissent and contempt, to lead, and to act with confidence... and Alphys hid from grieving families because she was overwhelmed when the determination experiments went wrong and couldnât bear the idea of telling them what happened to their loved ones. of course, that reaction makes sense. that's a manifestation of guilt and anxiety. but itâs indicative of Alphysâ inherently avoidant nature that she has to overcome in Undertale.
even if Alphysâ anxiety in Deltarune hasnât been exacerbated by trauma to the degree that it was in Undertale, itâs still clear that her baseline mode is socially anxious, conflict-avoidant, and insecure. to that end, none of Alphysâ strengths, other than the fact that sheâs smart, are on display in a classroom setting ⌠but ALL of her weaknesses are.Â
so why is she a teacher?? scientists exist in the real world!! one might argue that this is a limitation of the small town setting in Deltarune. Alphys lives in Hometown, therefore she is limited to the jobs that you would work in a small town. which could be an explanation, but in chapter 4, Alphys says she moved to Hometown. so she came to town from somewhere else for... some reason...
and whatever her plan for work was coming in, we also know Toriel actually got Alphys the job, according to the mayor's secretary in chapter 1 (who apparently expects a student to come in complaining about her...?). Toriel's constant checking-in on Alphys and asking Alphys if Kris has been acting strange is contextualized by this. Alphys probably sees herself not as Toriel's equal, but as a beneficiary of Toriel's kindness as long as she keeps an close eye on Kris...
The narrative is setting up Alphys as a questionable teacher, and this is especially noticeable in chapter 4.
chapter 4 thematic relevance
the mentor-student dynamic between susie and gerson in the dark world is, despite its brevity, one of the most significant and transformational relationships of Susieâs entire life. Gerson breaks through Susieâs walls and teaches Susie to cultivate her skills and take risks. He wants her to work on her healing rather than accept her limits being âhurting people magicâ, in her words, and he incentivizes her growth in the secret boss fight. Gerson brings out the best in Susie.
this same chapter, Susie tells a story of being told by adults around her not to play a public piano, because she âjust looked like [she] shouldn't be playingâ it. By profiling her, they taught her to believe, as she tells kris in chapter 1, that âno one can choose who they are in this world.â Nobody would believe she could be anything other than what they assumed she already was, so she would accept that she wouldnât be. she learned to put up a facade and play the role of a troublemaker. even in a town of other monsters, she's maligned; others take Susieâs facade at face value. unfortunately, Alphys is one of these people.
in the chapter 4 juice combo interaction, which is mandatory to progress through the game, Alphysâ assumption is immediately undermined for a reason. sheâs not just wrong about Susie, but sheâs participated in the same line of thinking and judgement as the piano incident. Toby Fox wants us, the players, to know that Susieâs teacher was assuming the worst of her in the same chapter where Susie will soon gain a really productive teacher figure in her life and where Susie will confront, again, the lines of thinking that made her feel like she was less-than. this sticks out and stings when susie tells gerson:
itâs quite bittersweet. because Alphys is her teacher, but Gerson is the first person to make her feel like sheâs not stupid.Â
(and it could be said that Susie doesnât necessarily help her case: in both chapter 2 and 4, she refuses to even interact with Alphys. Alphys is the only character Susie actively avoids talking to and that likely stems from Susieâs own negative experiences with teachers and her own assumptions about Alphys. this is a challenge for Alphys⌠but she is Susieâs teacher. Gerson found a way to get through to Susie even when she wanted nothing to do with him initially. that is the expectation on Alphys as Susieâs teacher. So where does she go from here?)
there is space for Undertale OGs to experience development, growth, and change in this story. for Krisâ sake, we have to hope both Toriel and Asgore will grow as people, of course. and weâve seen that Tenna is acting as a catalyst for Mettatonâs gender expression (which is interesting, because that was originally really tied to his friendship with Alphys). and Undyne had previously complained about how boring her job as a police officer was, and now she certainly will not be saying thatâŚ.........
and ultimately, if Deltarune is thematically a story in part about escapism, fantasy, and fiction - no other character in Undertale relied so heavily on the comforts of fiction as Alphys: her fixation on Mew Mew Kissy Cutie comes up in both games. the wholesomeness of the first Mew Mew brings Alphys so much comfort in Undertale because she feels so much guilt and dread about the experiments... when it comes to escapism, she might be the reigning champion of Undertale and it would be wild if Deltarune didnât do anything with that.
alphys the successor
moreover, Â Alphys being Gersonâs successor in Deltarune directly parallels her being Gaster's successor in Undertale (Gerson mirrors Gaster in a couple ways...) And just as Father Alvin says that itâs difficult for Alphys as Gersonâs replacement, the goners compare Alphys to Gaster
now, to Alphysâ credit, I think that she is a really genuinely talented scientist, and we simply donât have enough evidence to compare her to Gaster because of course Gasterâs followers are going to hype him up in comparison to her. the only reason we know to take Alvin seriously is because weâve seen he was right, otherwise itâd just come across like him having a bias towards his own father.
the point being, Alphys is also connected to Gaster. this connection should be taken as significant, especially if weâre to assume she knew him (which for a long time was what people assumed based on entry 17... which could be an entire other can of worms)
and how she knew sans, too. the fact that sans keeps Alphys' secret about the true lab and the amalgamates indicates the strength of their friendship. if the "sans in undertale = sans in deltarune" theory is correct, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to conclude that if anyone else KNOWS about that, it'd be UT!Alphys. especially when she's studied alternate universes and it seems she's even aware of the player...
by the way, Alphys is way more observant than she gets credit for
the last major point i want to return to here is back in Deltarune, actually.
For example, sheâs INCREDIBLY observant to the happenings of Hometown surrounding Undyne. in chapter 2, she identifies the uselessness of the police force and then immediately speculates on the mayorâs intentions. she does a similar thing in chapter 4 where she talks about the shelter with suspicion and fear. she immediately manages to pick up on something incredibly abnormal going on in regards to the shelter, and that undyne and the mayor have gone over to the bunker...
both times, Alphys has gone âmakes me wonderâŚâ and then speculated about something of incredible significance to the conspiracy in this town. We know now the police force was mostly for show, with the exception of whatever Undyneâs responsibilities were regarding the bunker, and that perhaps thatâs all tied to the âpolice sacrificeâ thatâs supposed to happen next week. we know there IS something in the bunker - the knight, eram, friend - SOME matter of threat.
but as far as she knows, thereâs no such thing as dark worlds. she lives in a reality similar to our own in her day-to-day life and yet she feels that there is a something in the bunker that is dangerous. she's that locked in.
(perhaps there's something to be said about FRIEND looking suspiciously like Endogeny in early chapter 3...)
all in all that's all i have to say about alphys thus far. personally i'm sad that she doesn't know mettaton yet... i guess she knows asgore though? And he likes mew mew kissy cutie 2? Put a pin in that?
but really, while i don't have any clear sense of the direction deltarune is going to take with Alphys, i feel that she's been such an important character to undertale and even to the staging of deltarune itself. i think there's so many clues that she's going to be relevant to the upcoming happenings, they've just all been so easy to miss with everything else going on. there's so much talk about how sans connects the two games, for example, and i think Alphys essentially will complete that picture for me somehow. we'll see what happens from here on out but at least i've staked my claim in the #ALWAYSBETONALPHYS movement this early in....
and by the way i was kind of mean to her in this post so i just want to say I LOVE ALPHYS!!! I <3 COMPLEX FEMALE CHARACTERS!!!!
