Well, it finally happened. I made a fursona.

Thanks to the awesome @atreefullofstars I now have a proper look for my D&D character. This is the Harengon Warlock Sir Phineas Lost and he will be my new face on this blog. Once again, huge thanks to the artist that made him look this cool.

He survived all the way to lv 17 (and beyond) after turning himself into a half-dragon. He now runs a seedy tabloid paper which reports all of his own party’s heroic deeds as sensationalist stories.

Some cool news for today: someone uploaded the uncut English dub of Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters to the Internet Archive!! They used to be all online, but got taken down, only 2 were avaliable for a while

For those that don't know: This was an attempt by 4kids to make an uncensored, more accurate dub of the show, released directly on DVD, with most of the same cast of the older dub. They didn't sell very well, so there were only 9 episodes released, but we have these at least (i believe the episode 10 in the link is an fan edit)

A DND team that is

A high wisdom fighter that has led armies but all the other commanders hate him because he does things his own way. He likes to hide his intelligence and uses jokes as a coping mechanism. Keeps trying to retire but keeps getting pulled into more campaigns.

A high charisma wizard with a specialization in history and lost spells. He can comprehend any language given a book and an hour. He also has a habit of dying coming back randomly to which his party has just stopped holding funerals. He got started adventuring when his wife was kidnapped.

An artificer who has a mixed soldier and sage background. Other than intelligence her highest stat is actually dexterity. She is often regarded as the smartest person in the room and knows it.

A barbarian with high wisdom. He was raised in a cult and rose through the ranks to become the right hand of the bbeg. He betrays his "God" upon meeting the rest of the party. He has a strange curse that means his health relies on carrying an inert mindflayer parasite.

Always kinda thinking about the phenomena of what I'm calling 'left behind girls' who are extremely young girl antagonists who are utilised by an older male antagonist (often a father), who very clearly require help, yet are not given any of it, especially in comparison to characters adjacent to them, such as siblings (often brothers). Most often they also have a distant/neglectful mother and seem to carry characteristics of the hyperfeminine "mean girl" character archetype and they often have this weird madonna/whore thing with a female protagonist. Havent yet found a way to fully articulate how I feel about all the characters on this list but I knkw there are more. Like Susan Pevensie from Narnia for example.

Do we think Claudia is ever going to find out that Aaravos was the one who orchestrated the attack on Katolis, and therefore kind of unwittingly killed her dad?

Unwittingly? Killing Viren may not be the only reason Aaravos attacked Katolis, but it definintely wasn't an accident.

But what's interesting about this question is how exactly Claudia would find out, because at this point no one except Aaravos himself even knows. He would either have to inadvertently let it slip (unlikely) or confess... whether genuinely or because it would bring him some kind of advantage. The only other way for anyone to find out would be by some supernatural means, like Kosmo's timeblindness or maybe Historia Viventum in the Valley of Graves (and tbh I think it would be kinda cheap if Historia Viventum actually showed Aaravos rather than Pharos under those circumstances).

I think with anything other than a genuine confession from Aaravos, she'd double down (because what is dark magic if not the doubling-down disease)... and even then, he has already confessed to her once about letting her believe that Viren could be in the In-Between, and she effectively doubled down there, too. Most of s7 has Claudia emotionally distancing herself from Viren in favor of Aaravos, but because those circumstances are so dramatic—she's deep in shock for the entire thing, IMO—it's really hard to guess how she'll land after seven years.

I think the more interesting question is if the narrative will really "blame" Aaravos or not, and personally I don't think it should. We don't even see Aaravos (or Pharros) do a single thing to make the attack happen. We just infer it because Aaravos/Pharros was smirking while riding on Sol Regem's back. I find it easier to think Aaravos was just being opportunistic when he stepped in after Sol Regem's attack to finish him off because the level of planning he would need to make all the pieces fall into place for that to happen is truly ridiculous unless he truly can see destiny.

Besides, the whole "Aaravos is resposible for everything" bit gets old really fast and in this case it actively undermines Karim's character arc. The whole point of that folly was that Karim is a person who can't see the consequences of who he aligns with to restore his imagined glorious past. It was his own idea to go to Sol Regem, and it backfired on him because he misjudged the dragon's intentions about who he considered enemies that needed to be destroyed. If Karim wasn't the one who came up with this plan, or if Aaravos was the reason Sol Regem went to Katolis instead of saving Karim's army, then it tells us that Karim's "glorious restoration" would have worked if not for outside interference, and I think that ruins the point about courting bigotry.

And I would absolutely hate for Claudia and Aaravos' relationship to be undermined that way. One of the things I appreciate about season 7 was how it at least respected Claudia's intelligence and agency by having her see through Aaravos and him being honest with her in turn. Becoming partners in crime is a much more interesting direction for them going forward instead of just backsliding into yet another boring mastermind scheme with an obvious Chekov's gun hanging over it.
