When I first started working on healing, I thought it meant that if I froze, dissociated, got triggered or had any sort of intense emotional reaction that I was undoing my progress. Or that if they happened, it meant I wasn't healing. (I still struggle with dissociating, triggers and stuff like that.)
It took time, but I began to realize that the progress is in noticing it happening sooner, being able to cope with it, or bounce back quicker. Or that it happens less frequently. Sometimes I'm able to notice the signs and prevent it from happening.
For me, it was never about 'never struggling' but about learning to deal with the struggles.

One thing I had to learn was that "better" and "healthy" aren't always the same thing.
After experiencing something really unhealthy, it can be easy to compare everything to your worst experience instead of comparing it to what you actually deserve.
Someone may respect your boundaries more than your last partner did, but still ignore them. Someone may yell less often, but still make you feel afraid. Someone may not manipulate you in the same ways, but still manipulate you.
It's hard, but try not to let "better than before" become the standard you settle for. You deserve relationships that aren't just less harmful. You deserve ones that are genuinely healthy.

My sister finally started watching Downton Abbey, but she says it's too depressing for her 😅

you need to be more normal about fwb. no, fwb don’t strip you of your dignity. they are not unhealthy. sexual relationships are not bad. it’s not weird to want them and not romance. friends can fuck. you don’t have to be involved romantically to be intimate with someone. that includes all sorts of physical touch because you are also not normal about platonic non-sexual touch. it’s not weird if friends cuddle, sleep in one bed, hold hands or kiss. friends can be affectionate with each other. it doesn’t mean they are romantically attracted to each other. nor does it mean they will ever be in a romantic relationship. you need to be more normal about touch and sex in general.

Yamanashi, Japan.
To put it very bluntly.
You will always make a better impact helping people who need it than trying to hurt people you think deserve it.

I ended up experimenting a lot with this painting, pouring layers of ink washes over the watercolor and building back up with gouache and pastels. I'm trying to get a look that is soft and highly textured but still has clear strong details in places. I haven't gotten it down yet quite the way I want, but this is a step closer!
