Season 1 starring Luis Bustos, featuring a tribute to 'Ultraviolence'
We're still here!
We've just been taking the time to make a few changes and clean some things up, and we hope to be more active in the future! A new link to an updated Season 1: Bad Connotation starring Luis Bustos will be posted soon
[softly, but with a lot of feeling] what the fuck
Paul Lange - Hoarfrost II, before 1890
How to Cure a Rape Survivor
You don’t.
You stop treating her like a problem to be solved,
stop searching for the equation
of how to make her feel better.
There is none.
You lose the term damaged goods and find the words
You are still beautiful no matter what.
You stop plucking the petals off daisies in a circle
of your closest friends like a seance
to figure out if she still loves him despite
what he did to her body.
You accept that this is none of your business.
You stop destroying flowers
and start helping her grow instead.
You don’t give up on her, because Jupiter has
over 63 moons, yet no one measures its worth
in numbers, only by the way it manages to exist
in a perfect vacuum.
You don’t measure her worth by the number of times
her skin was occupied without her permission.
She is still Europa, and Ganymede, and Callisto.
He is not the only one who still remains inside her.
She is full of birdsong and gunpowder and sparklers
and bridges and Sunday morning writing sessions
on a typewriter so old the keys crack like a spine.
There is a tree growing inside her stomach.
Even after the winter strips it of its leaves,
summer after summer,
it still bears fruit.
Poetry seems to me its own kind of language, which is a hodgepodge demon-tongue of everything I’ve ever read, heard, imagined. I’m always learning how to speak this weird language, more weirdly. Poetry is not my native tongue, and I like it that way. It’s made up of an English that cannot help but be a symbol/tool of the colonizer. But at the same time, a symbol/tool of the maker and dreamer and walker. I like never completely understanding poetry, as a reader or writer. I like believing that there’s always more to imagine. I like not mastering it (= taming it, colonizing it). The awkwardness of the amateur (lover) is more seductive to me. More true. Poetry that seems overly polished (professional) is a turn off. I like it queer and hairy and kinda smelly.

It was all intensity. It was all my intensity, and I refused to explain any of it.

we’ll wake, put soft hands against other’s face and pour ourselves as rivers against the unsayable as if it were stone
Weston Cutter, from “An Attempt at a New Definition of Forever,” (0,0) (Floating Wolf Quarterly, 2012)
In the same way that it can be totally crippling to think during your writing process about what magazines or publishing houses might like your work, it can be extremely limiting to focus on about what audiences, live or internetted, will think of your poems.

FROM THE VAULT: Hillary Kobernick - “The Last Judgement” (NPS 2013)
“You must know how infinite the distance is between who we are and who we are afraid to be. Tell us, God doesn't mind. Be the patron saint of it’s okay, of you can come out now. Intercept our prayers and remind us the one we most need forgiveness from is ourself.”
There is a corner of me still carving out an absence in the shape of you.
