PRIORITY [S.M × C.D]
last week been...hard. with exams coming up, constant nagging from professors and endless homework, meeks felt like he's about to lose his mind. it was truly exhausting, after all, it's his reputation we're talking about: he has to be the best, no matter how, he simply has. some people thought that meeks didn't really has to try- everything goes easy for him. it's not really true. he indeed was exceptionally smart, but still, it cost him a lot of studying, time and energy.
charlie noticed that steven doesn't spend a lot of time with them, like he used to. fuck that, he doesn't bother to eat or sleep properly. he was patient with meeks, realizing that this shit important to him and blah blah blah, but at some point he had enough.
charlie decided to visit meeks before going to sleep and once again he caught him studying:
-hey, love. what are you doing? it's kinda late, you should get some rest.
-I'm not tired.
pitts picked up on what about to happen and not wanting to be a victim to angry meeks, he decided to pay a visit to the bathroom:
-um, I think I'll go to the toilet guys, be right back!
-meeks, I understand that you want to succeed and achieve everything you can possibly achieve, but sometimes you should take breaks.
-i will take a break after exam end, okay? if you're done with scolding, I have to get back to studying.
-okay, I've had enough. for the sake of God, NOTHING'S gonna happen if you spend one fucking minute with me. you always dramatize everything and still, you pass every single time
-oh, forgive me charles for me being a responsible adult. WAIT, you don't know what is it, right? I'm not like you, I actually have to study I have an image AND reputation to keep. so please, close the door on your way out, I don't have a lot of time.
meeks was kinda shocked with himself, he understood that he was recently pushing his limits way too much and charlie was right, but god forbid he would admit it. still, he didn't mean to say that to the person, who cared about him like no one else.
-i'm sorry, char, I didn't...
-that's fine, you're actually right. I think I'll go to bed now. goodnight.
the next day meeks was determined to fix his mistake and to everyone's surprise, he joined boys at the breakfast table. charlie was hurt, he was doing a right thing in his opinion and certainly didn't expect that reaction and harsh words:
"just because I'm not into mathematics or latin doesn't mean that I'm hopeless and useless, right? meeks knew it and still said that awful stuff to me. but maybe he's right and in the end meeks is a genius while I'm... well i'm charlie. it's about time steve realizes he deserves more and then...
his train of thoughts were interrupted by meeks himself:
-so.. about my words last night. I'm so sorry, love it just slipped I don't think that way, you're awesome and i was wrong for saying that..
-I think we need to have a break.
-what? wait, why? I mean, I understand that I'm wrong but please let me explain.
-there's nothing to explain. I'm not good enough for you and never will be. either way, I need time to think and I think you need it as well. your apology won't fix it, it's a matter of time when this situation will repeat itself. so please, give me time and space, I need to process everything.
deal with your exams and then we'll talk.
charlie got up and left meeks with a guilt on his heart and a heartbreaking thought in his head: " what if this is the end?"
