white diamond's design is very Metropolis inspired to me. Also old b&w western cartoons smooshed with astroboy?? (like old old OLD anime). like how do you represent ancient af in a hypermodern animation: black and white. But yeah the first thing that came to mind for me was Metropolis, the old german movie

ohh yes, I definitely get vibes of Metropolis from it, and absolutely with the classic cartoons. Old school black and white animation is definitely an influence of the crewniverse (Rebecca straight up says its a big influence for her at the SDCC 2018 panel, and has said so many times in interviews before) so that’s definitely part of what it’s drawing from. Also, just as a general rule, the vast majority of people I know who are seriously into making movies/TV, particularly with a sci-fi bent, have cited some inspiration from Metropolis.

Also, @thechekhov mentioned how the visual style of White’s room and the glow is very similar to how old black and white footage looks (and generally, the older the source or the poorer the quality, the brighter the bloom on the white)

I just love how, despite her reputation, Yellow Diamond is actually a complete gooball when it comes to Pink Diamond.

White Diamond might not be happy about the rebellion and the past 6000 years? Yellow offers to take on the brunt of White Diamond’s wrath.

Yellow Diamond is a complete marshmallow when it comes to Pink Diamond, and I love her for it.
