The Boy in the Visions
Thank you @glxsyymads for the writing prompt! I kind a took it and changed it a bit as my brain brained.
When Regulus told Pandora he was trans, her heart dropped. She was so proud of him for being himself and finally being able to express who he was, to be who he was, but she finally recognized him, the boy from the visions. When they had first met and Pandora had accidentally mistaken him for the boy, she had been so happy. There was no way that that girl named something completely different could be the boy she always saw drowning. But when he told her he was trans, when she saw his new haircut, his new style, his new name, she knew her best friend was fated to die.Â
She cried when he told her his name for the first time. Regulus. It was a name that haunted her dreams, that came up in visions, that always was lost to the quiet at the bottom of a lake. She could feel the hands dragging the boy into the water. She could feel the water filling his lungs, burning his chest, and suffocating him. Regulus had thought that she didnât accept him. They didnât speak for three days, and in those three days the visions were worse. She saw not only the boy, but her brother and so so many other people die. Everyone around her was going to die. Pandora was going to be alone. She made up with Regulus after that, telling him about her visions. She never told him details, especially not who the visions were about, but she told him that they existed.Â
The night that Regulus drowned, Pandora knew. She was pregnant with her first child, safe at home with her Xenophilius. She cried that night, more than she ever had before. She also had her last vision that night. It had started with a clock, 10:32am, then panned to a calendar, October 7th, 1990. She was making a potion, something experimental. It exploded. She was gone. Her daughter was alone. Pandora never told anyone about that vision. She never told anyone that the visions stopped. Pandora wasnât alone, and she knew her daughter wouldnât be either, but she knew that the boy was. She knew that the boy named Regulus, who she grew up seeing, who had become her best friend, was alone. He was alone at the bottom of a cold dark lake. He would forever be alone, surrounded by the creatures that killed him, surrounded by hate.
Ever since the vision started, Pandora saw the boy. He was always in different places, at Hogwarts in a green robe and tie, at Hogsmeade smiling with her brother, sitting in a library with her and talking. No matter where the boy was, Pandora was always happy to see him, his visions always a happy break from her usual tragic one. That was until the visions of the cave started. There was always the boy, Regulus, he was always alone, and he would always be dragged into the depths of that cold water. She didnât meet the boy until her third week at Hogwarts, but he wasnât exactly as he was in the visions.
âHey Panda, this is-â
âRegulus, right?â Pandora cut off her brother, Evan. This was the boy from the visions, there was no doubt.
âLyra, actually.â The boy, no girl, said. Pandora was confused, she knew that this was the boy from the visions, she knew it.
âItâs nice to meet you Lyra!â
