Getting Closer (Sequel to Present History)
imagine for @max-evergreen
You were livid for the rest of the day as you went through your day, and you were considering skipping your last two classes. Thatās how mad you were. You had such an aggressive look on your face as you ate lunch, replaying the conversation from this morning in your head; it sounded like a threat.Ā āWhatās got you in a bad mood?ā your friend Lauren asked as she sat her tray next to yours.
You werenāt going to tell her what you discovered last night, or your conversation with Jasper Hale.Ā āGot a D+ on my Biology test,ā you lied to her.Ā āYeah, Molinaās test wasnāt anything like the study guide.ā You were far too upset to eat, and you got up to throw your food away; the bell rang but you made no move to pack your things.Ā āY/N, arenāt you coming?āĀ
Your last two classes were English and Government but you wanted to get to the library to do the research you were planning on doing.Ā āNah, Iām not really feeling well, I think Iām getting that bug thatās goinā around. Iāll just see you Monday.ā Thankfully the library wasnāt that crowded and you grabbed an empty table in the back to resume your research from before; you opened a new tab logged onto Ancestry dot com to see what you could find. It was definitely Jasper Hale. Or Whitlock, or whatever his name was.
You knew that the Jasper in your class was the Jasper that matched the pictures, but you couldnāt find an explanation; nothing seemed plausible, nothing was making sense. You saw a date of birth listed as 1844 and a year of death as 1863 but you were still coming up short. That meant he shouldāve been nineteen when heĀ ādiedā. Was he some kind of demon? The only explanation you had was that Jasper could be.. a vampire.
But that was impossible, vampires donāt exist, and they especially donāt exist in Forks. You were so involved in the information you were looking at that you didnāt even notice that he was behind you until he spoke.Ā āDid ya find anything interesting?ā His voice made you jump a foot in the air and you quickly closed the tab. Ā āMaybe. Itās not like Iām gonna say anything. Who would believe me?āĀ
You know if you even breathed a word of this to anyone, they would have you in the nearest outpatient facility, no one would take you seriously. Jasper squinted his eyes at you, sizing you up.Ā āWhat conclusions did you come up with?ā He was very calm and it sounded like he was asking for the answer on a test; you realized that your answers would sound silly saying them aloud. He was still waiting on your answer.
āWell?ā You played with the ends of your hair, wishing desperately that you had gone to class.Ā āUhm⦠there are a⦠few. Reincarnation maybe? Some kind of demon?ā Jasper smiled at you slowly and he laughed a little.Ā āYouāre right not too far off. Are you scared of me now?ā
āWhy would I be scared?āĀ āYou might want to quit while youāre ahead. Before you stumble on something you donāt want to.ā He browsed the bookshelf next to him before grabbing a book and heading to the checkout counter, and he looked back at you and smiled again before walking out the library. You feel like you already discovered something that you wish you hadnāt, but you werenāt going to tell him and give him that satisfaction.
