Everything suddenly makes sense.
I have always needed to know this!
I think the first one is awesome so give me a sec here to explain to anyone who wants to know:
As the magnet falls through this copper tube, there is a time rate change in magnetic flux perpendicular to the plane of the copper loop through which the magnet is passing. This causes an opposite induced EMF (faraday’s law). This causes a current to develop in the copper tube, which, in turn, causes a magnetic field to develop inside the tube, opposing the magnetic field of the magnet (Ampere’s Law and Biot-Savart Law). This causes the magnet to slow, which in turn causes a decrease in the time rate change of the magnetic field, causing a reduction in the induced current, and a reduction in the opposing induced magnetic field. Thus, an equilibrium is reached where the magnet is slowed in such a way that the weight is offset by the opposing magnetic field such that the magnet moves steadily downward.
bestnatesmithever: zerostatereflex: Tangible Media - MIT’s Tangible Media is coming along nicely, ”Almost like a table of living clay, the inFORM is a surface that three-dimensionally changes shape, allowing users to not only interact with digital content in meatspace, but even hold hands with a person hundreds of miles away. And that’s only the beginning.”

We could write a proof for this, but let’s just understand it instead.
