planning a new project like "wow! this is pretty simple and straightforward. now how do i over-complicate it"
i can not 7:30 pm nap. 7:30 pm nap is the devil. 7:30 pm nap will ruin me
im starting to think some ppl are just never going to be happy with the interaction they get on this site.
like first its "likes mean NOTHING you HAVE to reblog" and now its "but if you dont say anything in the tags of your reblog its NOTHING" and like.
i know what it feels like to put in a lot of work on something and get crickets in response. i think most creatives do. it hurts. it really fucking hurts. in fact thats probably a not insignificant factor in why ive been struggling creatively for years!
but theres smth abt the posts abt these things thats... idk. youre missing me here.
esp seeing ppl be like "reblogs without tags are just collecting smth. idc about that"
well. maybe you should readjust how you think abt reblogs then?
personally, when i reblog smth, its bc i like it and think more ppl should see it. its bc im excited abt what my friend made and want others to see their work
its not about "collecting" things?? its holding smth up like "look at this!!"
i get that elaborate comments are more exciting to recieve, but i dont think thats nothing.
im thinking abt this again and it really just bums me out. from both the "sides" of creator and audience
for one thing, it cant feel good to think of interaction this way. it seems like more than anything, you're psyching yourself out, narrowing down what counts as "real" interaction
likes are not automatic. no one is being forced to reblog things. which means every like or reblog is an active choice someone is making in reaction to your creation!! thats cool! that is something to be happy about!
and its worth noting that other ppl cant read your mind. they cant know what you want unless you tell them. so if you want ppl to tell you what they think, you have to ask
and thats scary and vulnerable, i know. but just a "i worked a lot on this, let me know what you guys think!" in the caption of your work might let ppl know that is what youre looking for.
another reason this sucks is bc, the more i see the above mindset, the more i find myself hesitating to like or reblog things. bc part of me is like "well. what if they feel annoyed im 'just' reblogging without a comment? what if i cant think of a comment meaningful enough? should i just not bother?"
and that sucks!! (of course, when you put it like that it sounds pretty ridiculous, but anxiety isnt exactly irrational)
idk i think. if you do have this mindset, i can sympathize. but it might be worth trying to adjust your perspective and reframe things.

So to me - and I'm really allosexual so take this with a grain of salt ig - but to me, Yrliet's bestiality line is brought up as evidence that she's not ace, she just isn't into humans, but the line itself is often really stripped of context.
bc specifically the line that keeps getting brought up is when she says:
but she's not just calmly discussing her opinion on human/xenos relationships. the lines before it are:
She's at the end of her rope, isolated in an unfamiliar and dangerous environment, coming to a person with power over her (the Lord Captain) to report that along with being regular harassed, someone has now sexually harassed her, with very little idea how the Lord Captain will receive this. and then you can harass her! or you can tell her shut up and deal with it. or you can say Thank you for trusting me with this, I'll make sure it doesn't happen again, and she's surprised by this response. Yrliet's only defender is Yrliet. She's backed into a corner. Of course she's coming out swinging.
So I think that pointing to this line in particular as evidence of her not liking sex with humans versus being really upset by harassment, including sexual harassment is a weird one.
Honestly I feel that if this scene were to happen to Cassia, it could go beat for beat but with her comparing a commoner/worker to a beast and it wouldn't undermine her allosexuality. And similarly, I think this scene could be cut from Yrliet's storyline, and she would still read as asexual to me.
And like, allo-for-aeldari Yrliet is a not uncanon interpretation. I don't think she ever comes out and says 'I do not enjoy having sex with other aeldari'.
But I think it is uncharitable + flattens her character to say 'well, Yrliet just views humans as animals so that's why she won't fuck my Lord Captain!' -- because she also spirit bonds with you, and trusts you, and will romance you; and on the flip side doesn't enjoy even chaste touch, and continues to not want physical intimacy even when you're in a monogamous romantic relationship. To strip it down to well it's just bc you're human, Yrliet would be totally down to fuck an eldar, ignores the larger context of that line in particular + the whole rest of her romance or friendship.
This is my two cents, thanks.
ok very funny that yshtola and yda left a message telling the wol not to do anything reckless while rescuing the captured scions from castrum centri, and yet theyre the ones who go off script part way thru to go kill livia???
Reblog this and tell me what was your biggest crying over a piece of fiction. You can be vague if you don't want to spoil.

Another lovely summer is upon us, and that means it's time to celebrate with yet another xiv event!!
Since the plan is to stretch it throughout summer, I’m doing a longer “deadline” for each prompt + an opening and closing day. This way, we can star/end together but still have our own pace in betweens <3
MAKE SURE TO USE: #XIV HEATWAVE FESTIVAL
Inspired by shower thoughts, I have a question for all FFXIV fic readers.
What's your reading preference in FFXIV fic ships?
WoL x NPC
Non-WoL x NPC
WoL x Non-WoL OC
Non-WoL OC x Non-WoL OC
NPC x NPC
(I'm not including an "Other" option because I want everyone to pick one of the listed. No "Depends on the quality/if it's my fave author/etc". Assume your fave author has just offered up a fic of each of these and you have to pick which one you're most excited to read first.)
have been getting back to reading and recently finished the murderbot series, if anyone has any book recs id love to hear them! (they dont necessarily need to be like murderbot)
never love an anchor is a song that reads so strongly as being about motherhood to me that it kills me a little when i see it used for shipping
Submitter comment: I'd like to submit this '[s]tudy of defensive behavior of a venomous snake as a new approach to understand snakebite' not for it's topic (worth studying!) but for it's insane methodology, which... well, I'll just let the researcher speak for himself:
[Q: Why did you decide to do this experiment?
A: Snake behavior has been generally neglected as a field of research, especially in Brazil. And most studies don’t examine what factors make them want to bite. If you study malaria, you can research the parasite that causes the disease—but if you don’t study the mosquito that carries it, you will never solve the problem. Up until now, the popular wisdom was that the jararaca would only attack if you touched it or stepped on it. But that was not what we found.
Q: Why did you need to be the victim?
A: The best way to do this research is to put snakes and a human together. In this case, the human was me. We put the snakes inside a ring on the floor of our lab until they got used to it, then I stepped in wearing special protective boots. I stepped close to the snake and also lightly on top of it. I didn’t put my whole weight on my foot, so I did not hurt the snakes. I tested 116 animals and stepped 30 times on every animal, totaling 40,480 steps.]
From the recent (aptly named) interview: Researcher steps on deadly vipers 40,000 times to better predict snakebites
