Nora is so fucking dissociated right now it's hard to watch. Being dissociated for a long period of time is one of the scariest things ever.
I've watched the whole episode with subtitles and, do you know what I really really liked about it that I haven't seen commented? The fact that Nora has low blood pressure. Low blood pressure is a very common psicosomatic sign of anxiety and it can translate into blurred vision a tingly feeling on your limbs the feeling that you're about to faint (or just fainting)... The problem is that it's also very common on young women with very heavy periods so a lot of times you go to the doctor and head home with iron pills instead of an appointment with a therapist. I really like that they're making her have low blood pressure because I went to the doctor so many times because I used to faint a lot and none of them ever told me it could be anxiety related. I had to go to a therapist in order to find out why I kept fainting during exam week. I don't know I just love that Nora has low blood pressure.
druck be like yeah covid sucks but i will take full advantage of the situation and cleverly incorporate the pandemic into the story simultaneously addressing the severity of the situation and urging the viewers to take the virus seriously and effortlessly using the “corona” symptoms to introduce a mental illness storyline, while also casually addressing racism and unhealthy social media beauty standards AND ALL OF THIS IS LESS THAN A WEEK

Cosas fantabulosas, viva el cutrerío profundo!
The girls complaining about how long it takes to get the covid results is so accurate😂😂 my brother's results took 4 days to come out. It's crazy.
I don't have a diary. I have tumblr.
Sometimes derealization is so funny, like I’m sitting here in the middle of class, the professor starts giving us a lot of reading material and instead of a panic attack my brain just goes, byeeee. And now I’m not really sure I’m not dreaming and there’s a square on the wall that’s greener than the others and suddenly that’s supper interesting and my hands feel tingly and I’m just kind of floating here. Well, it’s better than screaming and crying. It’s just super hard to concentrate on what the poor man is saying, it feels like he’s talking through the radio in another room, I hear it, it’s just hard to pay attention to it, like it’s not here, or I’m not here, I don’t get it, I’m not even 100% sure I’m not dreaming, I mean, I know I’m not but I feel like I maybe am. I don’t know, it’s weird.
...I can believe it because misogynoir is a helluva drug but I also am so flabbergasted that people are mad that Ava ignored calls from an unknown number... I’ve ignored two calls from unknown numbers this morning alone!!!!!
Oh wow, that clip was so cleverly done - I’m mega impressed!
I’m so curious as to what they’re doing and how Nora’s behaviour and experiences seem to suggest that we’re going to get a look into her mental state
She seems to have anxiety and stress responses, sensory overload and maybe disassociation/depersonalisation/derealization. I’m trying to work out what the camera wants us to feel because major anxiety Adrenalin spikes can cause hands to feel numb and can trigger disassociation and sensory overload so it’s really amazing how they really did try to pull the audience into that too with the sharper sound, the focus on detail, the zoning in and out of specific things, the slight echo on noise... so so cool
It’s interesting that Nora seems as frightened and as kinda surprised as we feel experiencing it with her. Whatever she suffers with, it’s possible she doesn’t really understand it herself. If we’re looking at anxiety here which, for now, it screams to me... then shit. (I mean, it’s a symptom of a ton of things as well as of itself so!) Talk about a full on relateable season. But children of alcoholics often develop issues with mental health which often flare massively when their parent is removed. The reason for it is that, for once, their brain is given a chance to think of itself or to have a moment of calm which means the person feels, sees, thinks more and about themselves. That moment of calm can actually be the most difficult thing to experience for the brain because it simply doesn’t understand it. This could all be because of a number of mental illnesses/mental health issues. I mean, these could absolutely be symptoms of PTSD (expecially C-PTSD) too etc - children of alcoholics can suffer this more
It’s possible that what is happening here is what happened to Nora with Constantin. Or maybe not! Maybe her behaviour with him was purely down to her mum, the lies and difficulties with being able to split her time.
It’s all so intriguing but either way, Nora isn’t ok and I felt every moment of that with her. Her face lies to the world around her and they may not see but we can. We know what she’s like and those really forced moments really stand out to us. The whole COVID thing is a really clever tool to create some tension but also more anxiety and to maybe cause a trigger for Nora’s doctor (im so confused why she’s going to the doctor for a test as that’s not at all the process in the UK but I’m going with what was said in texts) to perhaps ask questions about her living situation. As I’ve always said, a major worry for a kid in her position is the authorities and it a huge reason why they don’t speak out about their experiences with their parent so this is like nightmare scenario if this doctor finds out she’s effectively living alone and if she really shouldn’t be...
And Mailin. I’m SO CURIOUS about her reaction. She’s the mum friend, the one who plans and organises. She must have a reason to be as worried as she is. That’s so crazy intriguing to me!
All in all, seriously A+ story telling. I’m 100% with every moment and every emotion and as horrible as it is seeing Nora experience all of this, it feels necessary because you can’t heal if you don’t know what needs treating.
I think it’s important they’ve decided to tackle Mental Illness during a global pandemic in a show that’s directed towards a teenage audience because if I’ve learned anything in the months I’ve been locked up because of the virus is that being cooked up in one place is horrible for your mental health, my panic attacks have gotten a lot worse and I know a lot of people who’d never had them before the lock-down who have had them regularly.
So showing the journey of person with mental illness go from thinking that it’s not that bad and that you can deal with it on your own to realizing they have a problem and seeking help from both people from your circle and specialists to, hopefully, getting a diagnosis and treatment and realizing they’re not broken or wrong or that their MI doesn’t make them less than in any way and that their close friends and family still love them during this pandemic is probably the best decision a skam remake has made since they decided to split Willhell into Miquel and Alejandro during eskam season 3 (it certainly is better than whitewashing a male love interest or giving a season that was meant to be about a muslim girl to a white influencer).
So thank you druck. What you’re doing is important and it really matters and I think it can possibly affect a lot of people and hopefully a couple of teens will realize that they aren’t week for asking for help and a bunch of them will learn that mental illnesses are not something to fear.
Nora has a Mental Illness. I’ve been suspecting this for a while but didn’t wanna get my hopes up because I thought Matteo did too and we all know how that turned out.
I don’t know what MI Nora has, I think she does have some de-realization associated MI, form the way that it’s shot, like she’s looking at her hands and she touches herself like she can’t truly believe she’s real and then she doesn’t really acknowledge the teacher talking to her and her world is kind of blurred out (the music is blurry) and it’s like she can’t quite believe what’s happening is real, like she’s trying to force herself back into reality when she’s talking to her friends because she notices weird small stuff and not the whole thing. It seems to be triggered by stress, the way she reacts when Zoe and Kiki tell her she can’t keep on living with her mom, for example. I don’t want to diagnose her too early because I’m no mental illness expert but she does seem to have symptoms of anxiety disorder, the fixation, the inability to relate to your surroundings in the middle of a panic attack... I don’t know, maybe I’m projecting because I wanna see myself on screen, but who knows.
I just hope they put care and thought into this, that it’s well portrayed and that she doesn’t loose her support system and they don’t try to dramatize it too much, you know, it’ll cause problems, because being mentally ill causes problems, both to you and to the people around you, but I want them to make it realistic, not dramatic and sensationalized. I do trust druck from what I’ve seen so far this season, so I’m very happy to have a mentally ill main. Finaly.
the latest clip dropped at 7 something German time and it's sad (they do have a moment of being teenagers teasing their friend about her relationship) unfortunately 😞😞 there's a trigger warning because they seem to be depicting Nora's mi, so I hope that helps!
Yeah I just saw the transcription, now I’m just waiting for the time to actually watch the clip. I really like that they are tackling Noras MI
I’m scared because I still have no clue what happened with Constantin and I know whatever it is will come back and destroy Nora.
So I’m just sitting here, patiently waiting for a new druck clip where the girls tease Nora about spending so much time with Josh and Nora pretends to be annoyed but has a goofy smile and flushed cheeks and is so immensely happy with her life and and her friends and her new sweet, caring boyfriend.
It’s either that or the other shoe will drop so, everyone, make sure your feet are properly covered and that you’ve got your shoes under control, let’s give our girl a few more minutes of happiness before everything goes to hell.
Josh’s voice message
