What are your hcs surrounding Young and Luca’s l relationships with their families and how they reacted to them being together?
Oh im boutta start cooking,
His parents are divorced, they split up when he was a pretty young kid, primary custody went to his mother and he saw his dad on weekends
Hockey was his thing w his dad, initially it was figure skating for the first 2 years but he v quickly switched to hockey
His dad lowkey holds him to ridiculous standards, if he gets 44/45 on an exam its "where's the other point", if he gets an assist its "why did you not score a goal"
His dad also bankrolled the whole hockey thing so he sorta held it over lucas head everytime he tried to argue how he thought he played well
Luca gets along quite well with his mother, they hang out a lot, watch a lot of shows together and she teaches him to cook and encouraged his drawing hobby
Luca takea after his mother the most looks and personality wise, he is her copy and paste and thanks to this + his status as only son + youngest child he's absolutely her favourite
To the point he kinda thinks she views him as still a kid even at 20
Lucas pretty neurotic (hes like an easily spooked horse) so as much as he loves his parents he always kinda feels like hes dissapointing them
His relationship w his siblings is a lot better, there was a period where he was only close to the sister closest to him in age (Alina) but thats just due to the nature of the age gaps with his oldest sister being older than him by 8 years and the 2nd oldest by 6
Theyre working on it but have a habit of treating him like a baby because when ur brothers 12 when ur 18 and 20 its hard to reconcile that w the fact hes 20 now
He and Alina are two peas in a pod, could be twins if it werent for the fact shes a year older than him
They call before every game, even the ones at 4AM in Switzerland
Alina is the first person in his family Luca tells abt him and Young and she is sooooo excited and immediately starts trying to get luca to bring him to switzerland over the off-season
Luca is out to everyone in his direct family aside from his dad and they all immediately guess that hes with young when they meat him, including his dad - who is surprised and kinda put out but is quietly supportive by not saying anything
His dad passed away right before he moved to Edmonton to start billeting and playing for a team over there
This caused a rift between young + his family because he still moved away when they were trying to close ranks in their grief
His older sister, Bobbi, stayed in contact with him but it was definitely strained
Young and his mum had a lot to work through so for a few years she stuck to financially supporting his hockey but being distant emotionally
They had a big fight the christmas before his draft and it took them A While to fix it over his years playing in the college leagues
Things are still a bit awkward but they’re fixing them and its getting better every day
It does mean Youngs sorta repressed a lot of shit growing up by compartmentalising his grief + subsequent family issues, his mind is a steel trap no matter how much he appears to wear his heart on his sleeve
Hockey was smt he and his dad enjoyed together by supporting their local team (vancouver) so hockey was both escape + feeling close to his dad for Young
Youngs mum is overwhelmed with relief when he tells her about Luca, shes so incredibly happy her boy has let someone in and goes all out on welcoming him into the family by including him in all xmas and other family traditions from day one
Bobbi likes Luca but mainly because she enjoys showing luca all the stupid videos and pictures of young she has saved on her snapchat over the years
Also heres the sketch for this ask :)
