Ah⊠Yes, itâs true. Today is Sunday the third of May, 2015. I last went to the gym on Wednesday. Yup⊠I didnât gym for three days. Thatâs a big deal for me, I never donât always gym. So what happened? I suppose it was all stemming from a multitude of things. I have just got back from my ski season, where eating right was like trying to get to know someone you have never met. Impossible. (Thanks for that quote, Taylor Swift) Food was everywhere, and I had no money, the only food available to me was what the chefs cooked up that day. Sounds great, right? Well, it was, it just wasnât that healthy, either. I was home, I was eating perfectly. My food diary counted every single morsel that passed beyond my lips, I didnât cheat, not at all. I was perfect.
But two weeks after being home, I realised that I still didnât have a job (although I do have four companies that have offered me work - Long story for another time), and I still didnât know what I wanted to do in my life. I came to this mindset where I forgot why I went to the gym. I forgot why I tried to eat healthily, and I fell. Oh boy, I fell.
So from my calculations I ate about 5,000 calories on my first day. I did no exercise, I stayed at home playing Final Fantasy X on my playstation. Yup, me, in my bear onesie, not caring. I ate ice cream, chocolate, biscuits, crisps, everything that I hadnât had in a long time.Â
It wasnât too bad, I guess. I managed to get away with it by at first convincing myself I needed to increase my leptin levels. But then the second day came and despite continuing on this path of destruction not eating correctly, I still ate.
I DIDNâT EVEN FEEL GUILTY.Â
I didnât even put it into my food diary. I just ate, mindlessly. So who knows what the next two days consisted of calorie wise. But Iâm not writing this to tell you how much I have eaten. Iâm writing this to tell you what I learned, which is this: Working out and eating right isnât pointless: You probably know this already, but if you ever come to the situation I was in, this is important. Working out does more than burn fat and build muscle (It also promotes the release of endorphinâs, which make you feel happy). Working out is a constant. You may work out two, three, four, five or more times a week. But you know you are going in there to push yourself, to become a better you. Working out gives you an aspiration whether you are actually thinking about it or not. And this is what I was lacking. I was thinking to myself, âWhy do I bother?â. If I changed into this body overnight last year I would be ecstatic, but the slow process can sometimes have you forget how much progress you have made. So donât forget that.Â
I remember now, working out and eating right makes me more appealing to look at, it makes me more confident and most importantly, it gives me an aspiration, to be the best me I can be.
