◾️ From the phone call, she knew what was going to happen. While she sat there and waited, she tried to mentally prepare herself. She wanted to be cool and tough like the girls from the movies. She made sure to look extra cute and put together as a defense armor, but it didn’t help as butterflies—no, moths, filled her stomach when her eyes landed on him. ‘I can’t love you.’ Woah. The first blow. It literally knocked the wind out of her. This has been a recurring theme in her life. Her mother couldn’t love her, and her father, then her grandmother. They didn’t love her enough to keep Jaemi around. Also, with the lack representation in the media, the subliminal messaging was a girl like her couldn’t be loved. She’s starting to believe that.
◾️ She wanted to say something funny; to have a witty comeback, but she sat there falling apart on the inside while trying to keep together on the out. She had an inkling that he didn’t love her. She always felt she was putting more into their relationship than him. She wondered if he tried at all. Was it true love? Probably not. Does she know it? Maybe. Years down the line she’ll look back and think of this as no big deal, but she’s in the present. She’s young and experiencing heartbreak for the first time. “Um, yeah,” she cleared her hoarse, dry throat. Why is it so difficult to speak…to breathe? “Whatever you want.” Tears streamed down her face as she looked at her fiddling hands. “I—I don’t agree with this, but whatever you want, Kei-oppa. Gifts and whatever I have of yours…I’ll return it.” Up till the very end, she tried to be cool, but she couldn’t move from her seat. Holding in a sob, she managed to croak out, “I already miss you.” It took everything in power not to plead with him and simply asked, “to find and love yourself, is it a journey where you’ll come back for me after or you’re really leaving me behind?”
