The Hugā¢
Seriously, Root was so desperate. She didnāt see or hear from Shaw for more than 9 months. She never gave up hope. But a small doubt stayed in her heart. A fear. So, when she sees her again, she needs to be sure, she needs to feel Sameen close to her. She canāt believe itās her ⦠Her reason for existing, the love she lost. She close her eyes and gently grabs her head ⦠then her back. Itās her. Finally. Sheās home. Theyāre both home.
oh man, drift compatible Root and Shaw
they name their Jaeger 4AF (itās the smallest and lightest in the fleet, but donāt tell Shaw that or she will punch you in the face and then point out that it also has the most advanced weaponry and highest agility so fuck you) and no one knows what it stands for and its their own private injoke
and Shawās face goes super scowly because she knows itās something she said about them and that Root took it super romantically and convinced the Machine to register the name before Shaw could protest (though they both know that Shaw could have protested and changed it to something else, but she didnāt)
also, Shaw was a very promising recruit for the program, plucked out of med school to be a pilot bc sheās /perfect/ for it, her brain able to handle the drift for excessively long times and her fighting instincts absolutely top of the class
but no one could co-pilot with her
they tried dozens of the most promising candidates, but either it didnāt take at all or once they did, that emotional dampening she has would spread to her co-pilot and either they couldnāt deal with it or it would make them reckless and insubordinate in a way Shaw wasnāt because she understood herself in a way that took years, not the days or weeks her co-pilot had
Shaw was sick of it, wanted to just leave the program and do something that would actually help, not just waste her time
then Root walked in, smirking and flirting and without a flinch at the yawning emptiness of emotion some other candidates said they felt
I need to talk about Shaw for a minute
Shaw has been so well-written and acted for the past two episodes. Part of me wanted so badly for Team Machine to hug Shaw at the river. But they didnāt, because Shaw is not the touchy-feely type. It would have made her MORE uncomfortable. But that doesnāt mean she isnāt growing. Telling Root about the simulations was a test but it also made her really vulnerable in a way weāve rarely seen. And itās clear she derives comfort from ROOTāS touch.
In the same way I wanted her to really break down when she found out about Root. But thatās not who she is. Sheās never been that person. Even when she was a child and her father died next to her. But you could see in her expression how much it affected her. How much she cared for Root. Loved her even, in her own way. But it didnāt betray her personality or history at all.
A fucking plus Sarah Shahi.
Shoot reunion ⦠I donāt know why I have all these feelings. Watching Root smile again is a sight for sore eyes ā„ I canāt with this ship guys ⦠Iāll go down with this ship (āæ ā„āæā„)
Reason POI fans arenāt super angry about the death of Root is becuase the show runners didnāt use an LGBTQ+ character to get views and ratings. They treated the fans with extreme respect and didnāt kill Root off for āshock valueā.Ā
The POI cast and crew are wonderful people who never, for a single moment, used the fans or the characters for there ownĀ benefit. Ā
but imagine a show with all the dead lesbians all kind of grumpily watching their other halves from heaven and interacting with one another. some donāt get along at all and other are likeĀ āshit iād date you but- *glances at their very much alive soulmate doing some stupid shit again*Ā āiāll always love that idiotā
I guess none of us, has the life we want.
poi: kills Root with a stray bullet after her reunion with Shaw but mysteriously has bts pictures of her in the finale*
me: this looks familiar
I know
CRYING BECAUSEAMY ACKERS ACTING IS FUCKING SUPERB
I justā¦her shock and then elation at finding shaw and then utter pain at seeing shaw so in pain and not sure whatās real and whatās not and then the āyou canāt live with me. And I canāt live without you.ā AND THEN THE team machine moment when rootās eyes were brimming with happy tears because for a second just for a second she gets a peaceful second to be with the people she loves most AND SARAH SHAHI with the apprehension at reality and cautious sort of slowly assimilating back into team machine, but still worried that sheāll somehow put them, especially root, in Samaritanās crosshairs. And the way she told root about the simulations with this sort of broken indifference, and how she was able to kill herself over 7000 times and countless others but never. Root.
