As the mist only became more apparent, Hilda squinted. This whole experience was weird to say the least, though she wasn’t necessarily opposed to having a unique experience. Though– she couldn’t help but feel just a little bit unsettled, and what Áslaug had to say didn’t help that. “So you say…” she replied, her tone still cynical as ever, “But how do you know for sure? I mean, have you ever seen these so called ‘elves’?”

Áslaug’s grin sharpened, a bit of teeth flashing behind her lips. She straightened her posture, adopting a more serious though undoubtedly haughty look. “Oh please,” she flipped white curls over her shoulder as the mist seemed to weave ever closer to them. “I’ve been having tea with the Queen of the Elves every Sunday since I was a child. Also, I would advise you to not speak ill of them, or they might put a curse on you.” The sharp grin was back.

//Random hc/character development time but Ása’s interest in herbalism is actually inspired by the fact that I read about an Ice.landic natural cosmetics brand called Villimey (=wild maiden) years ago. The founder said she’d loved wandering the mountains in the Westfjords ever since she was a girl and knew a lot about all the herbs and flowers and wanted to find a use for their amazing properties, strengthened by the pure Ice.landic nature. So she started making all sorts of salves and ointments out of them and founded a business in her tiny home village. And yeah with Eiki I mostly concentrate on his relations with the other Nordics and so much of his personality is shaped by when he was living away from his country, that with Ása I decided to bring forth the ordinary Ice.landic people and the stories I’ve read of them.

Another reason is that Sims4 Eco Lifestyle is coming out soon and I saw the trailer while planning Ása. As soon as I saw the candle making item, I was just like “yeah that seems cool, Ása would like that.”

The hand soon slipped down to his wrist, tugging him along as she moved, long skirt swishing around her knees and a wicker basket full of plants swinging on her other arm. “Now that you’re here, come to my place. The mist had come suddenly from the mountains and wrapped the two girls in its embrace. Visibility over their surroundings was reduced drastically and a strange hush fell over the landscape. But Áslaug appeared unbothered, an enigmatic smile on her painted lips as she glanced over at Hilda. “The mist means the elves are walking nearby. If you’ve been good, they’ll let us go home... if not, you might get lost forever.”

//This is kinda random but I hc both Eiki and Ása had the sight to see magical creatures as children. But the thing is that in Ice.landic folklore, the huldufólk (Hidden People; elves, trolls, and other monsters) can only be seen when they want to be seen. Another lowkey hc is that the huldufólk have hidden themselves from Eiki bc they’re pissed at him for leaving Ice.land for 600 years. Ása most likely retains her sight to this day. (That or she enjoys fucking with people by talking about the elves. It’s quite possibly both.)

So in modern day, Ása believes in the huldufólk 100% (according to folklore, the queen of the elves actually holds court near where she lives) whereas Eiki is in the “I don’t believe in them but just in case” school of thought.

Ása’s alternative universe

//One more thing! The previous post is long enough as it is so I’m making this announcement a separate post.

My Iceland muses are twins, as explained in Ása’s bio, but due to me having Eiki for much longer, his backstory has shaped in such a way that doesn’t fit Ása. If you ask either one of my Ices about the other, they’ll ofc know each other and claim the other as brother/sister but Ása’s not part of Eiki’s normal backstory bc that would run the risk of her taking over the role of another friend’s muse.

Furthermore, I also want Ása to be able to function as an independent Iceland muse, travel and take care of nation work on her own (also internationally even tho her bio states that as Eiki’s job), so unless you specifically ask her to drag to talk about Eiki or Ása mentions him in the rp, or I’m writing with another Iceland muse, I’d prefer you to treat her as the only Iceland representative. Yeah, I know this sounds confusing but please bear with me.

In short, Eiki is part of Ása’s normal verse but Ása’s not part of Eiki’s normal verse. Unless you specifically ask him about her. Both of my Icelands can and will also play with other Icelands and in that case claim them as brother/sister.
