when i was a kid i got a 90% on my kindergarten "what are your favorite things?" test because for the question "what is your favorite animal?" i wrote down "puma" and it got marked wrong because my teacher said a puma isnt even an animal its a kind of shoe

the older i get the more i realize i love a lot of intensely personal literary fiction but often tire of the wink-wink ~autofiction~ flourishes that accompany it in modern writing. like i'd rather just read a story about ""a fictional character"" and then later read the author's bio which is near-identical to that of said fictional character. that way the two of us can go on mutually lying to ourselves about the power of the imagination without the author needing to, like, break the fourth wall or give the character the same name as them or any of that.

it's ok to play pretend! it's ok to play pretend ABOUT playing pretend! because i'm choosing to read this book, we have entered a mutual contract where you're lying to me for fun, so you're probably also lying to me about some of this being "fiction", and that's awesome. we don't need to acknowledge it in the text it's literally fine

I can see death fast approaching Damien Karras once again so I would like to share a story: tonight-- on my way to play Avalon -- I was distracted by my phone while walking down the stairs. I remembered the ending of the exorcist n quickly put my phone away, thus preventing myself from falling down the stairs and sharing his fate. I'm procrastinating by scrolling on tumblr because I'm so nervous about the book and the illustrations being able to convey easily to young children what's happening. I hope it goes well. Ahhhhhhhh

Traditional bookmarks

A random receipt or torn piece of paper, napkin, other random paper, etc.

Fold the corner of the last page you were on

Just leave the book upside down with the last page open

Memorize or write down the last page you were on

You don’t mark your page and just hope you’ll find it later
