Noora and Vilde have completely different lesbian narratives when it comes to men.

Noora has always disliked men and never really been interested in them, but that is okay she thinks because one day she will meet a man that isn’t like that and makes her feel warm inside. By the time she is 16 Noora has yet to meet this fabeled man and she starts to think maybe what I’m feeling around men is the way I’m supposed to feel? Love and hate are two sides of the same coin, maybe being attracted to men is supposed to feel like this. So she starts dating the man who makes her feel the most dirty and useless because that is what love feels like right?

“I don’t have to like men,” Noora tells Linn one afternoon and it feels like a weight has been l lifted off her shoulders.

Vilde has always looked for something in men she can like. She liked Chris’ hair, she liked William’s status, she liked Magnus’ kindness and she has focused on that. Every time Magnus kissed her and it felt like being kissed by a dead fish she thought about how kind he had been to her. It became her mantra, until she once again kissed a girl during a game of truth and dare and it felt like her body was on fire.

“This is going to sound weird because it is strange I don’t have to care about men if I don’t want to? I do care about some men, but I don’t have to. I don’t have to look for redeeming qualities in them I can just let it go,” Vilde explains to Noora one afternoon and Noora just nods.
