You don’t ask about the circles under my eyes or the way my lips don’t curl up when I smile anymore and I want to tell you that I skipped class last Tuesday And the smoke from too many cigarettes has curled around my lungs I feel like I can’t breathe Some days I think I’m suffocating some nights I scream into pillows until my bones shake the empty crawls into my ears I think I’ve lost my mind, Sometimes the silence is so loud my brain shatters and I don’t talk to anyone I sleep for days The sunsets and daybreaks blur together I think about death I walk barefoot through city streets and watch the pavement speed out from under me I drink black coffee at midnight and check the mail ring the doorbell just to make sure it is working I could burn down forests with the fire on my tongue but everything I say turns to ash anyway.
