I decided to try a Draw This In Your Style challenge! I saw @kelogsloops challenge with their beautiful koi piece and decided to do my own version. I wanted to do an interpretation very different instead of just repainting the piece! I love koi and water, so this was very fun to paint!
A very quick (About an hour!) plein air study done earlier this evening. It’s my very first time painting landscape from life instead of photos and it was really fun!

Value studies. Observational paintings where I ignore all the color of what I’m seeing and paint only in value. Not trying to create beautiful works or compositions, just learning with my eyes.
I always hesitate to post study work because frankly it’s boring. - It’s not the sexiest part of being an artist and it’s definitely not what people crave to see. But, I think it’s so, so important for every artist to constantly be studying and painting from life and observation, so I decided to post it all!
