―今、サブスクでみんなが世界中の音楽を気軽に聴けるようになって、ポップスの世界にもいろんな音楽があるんだなっていうことを実感するわけじゃないですか。今のポップスシーンではK-POPが世界的に人気ですけど、K-POPにはないハロー！プロジェクトのよさってなんだと思いますか。
河西 K-POPは最先端をいってますけど、K-POPが好きなのは若い子中心だと思うんです。でも、ハロー！プロジェクトはどの世代にも聴いていただける楽曲が多いと思いますし、 世代を絞るのではなくて、古さも新しさもいろんな要素を取り入れてるところがハロー！プロジェクトのよさだと思います。
―確かに。
岸本 だって私、K-POPみたいな今の流行りの歌い方でやれって言われたら、 ここにはいられないなって思います。勉強不足ではあるんですけど、最近の音楽についていけてなくて。TikTokとかの音楽にもついていけてないので、メンバーと話してても私ひとりだけ「知らない……」みたいな。なんかひとりだけジェネレーションギャップを感じることがあるんですよね。最近、私はブルースとかUKロックが好きだったりするんですけど、つばきはメンバーそれぞれ聴いてる音楽が違っているし、そういう個性を殺さずに自由にやらせてもらえてるのはハローのよさなのかなと思います。
– Now that everyone can easily listen to music from all over the world through subscription services, we’ve realized that there is a wide variety of pop music. In today’s pop music scene, K-pop is popular worldwide, what do you think is good about Hello! Project which are not found in K-pop?
Kasai Yuumi: K-pop has been trendy, I think it is mainly young people who prefer K-pop. But Hello! Project has many songs that can appeal to all generations. Hello! Project is good at mixing various elements, both old and new, into its music, rather than focusing on limited generations.
– You can say that.
Kishimoto Yumeno: If I was asked to sing in the fashionable style just like K-POP, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be here as a singer. Because I haven’t kept up with the latest music such as the ones you can hear on TikTok. So when I talk with the members over the latest music, I’m the only one who says “I’ve never heard of it”. I feel like I’m the only one who is of another generation. Lately I like to listen to blues and UK rock music, and each member of Tsubaki has her own musical taste which is different from others. I think it is a good thing about being in Hello! Project where they accept our tastes despite pushing one fixed style on us and spoiling our originalities.
